Life/career derailed after refusing Waterloo Regional Police Sgt’s sexual advances. The boys club protected him over me, Next hearing date Sept 9. She/Her
1/Mark your calendars! My testimony starts back up Feb 8!
A brief summary:
2013- I reject SGT Nathan Cardoza’s sexual advances, warned not to report or my career will suffer. Sexual rumours circulate, I’m labeled a bitch and a slut, lose my back up, I feel unsafe at work.
Today is the day!
My digital truck will be driving through Waterloo Region!
Includes never before seen sexual harassment texts from my Sgt!
And a special message for the Chief!
Thanks for liking my tweet about mental health Chief. Though, I noticed you unliked it again almost immediately. I’m just grateful you see how no one at WRPS, including you, has had my back while I battle

It’s terminal, and now he has to die alone.

My abuser got ONE (1) count of misconduct for trying to sleep with me, harassing me, and sinking my career.
Here’s a Sgt asking me for nudes.
Chief Larkin of
#WaterlooRegionalPolice
considers this to be “minor” misconduct, and the temporary discipline letter is already purged from the Sgt’s file.
He’s still a Sgt.
He has authority over women.
*I’ll be punished for revealing this*

Officer on left: reports sexual misconduct 3x, service punished her, now has PTSD and MDD, career, health, and future gone. Sick pay being cut off.
Officer on right: “allegedly” sends penis pics to subordinates, retires with full pension, unblemished record.

And after I strip searched women, a few of my male coworkers wanted to know what they looked like naked. They’d ask “is she hot?” Or “does she shave?”
They all still work there. 1 has been promoted, one is married to another officer.
You can’t fix this.

Always proud of my friend Effy, the fiercest warrior for truth I have ever known. 🔥✊🏻
One of my Sgts who was tasked with tearing me to shreds couldn’t figure out why he couldn’t make me cry.
He called me “a strong little thing” and I’m going to send him a TY note because I think that’s going to be the title of my book.

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t sad. The hate some of my former coworkers have for me was palpable. I know I’m hated, but seeing it still hurts.

“It didn’t matter that I spent years establishing that I was honest and trustworthy, or that I even had proof. I was a woman, making an allegation against a man, and therefore I would be subject to all of the same rape culture myths the average woman is”
Some have the impression that I’m a cop-hater.
Let me clarify:
I’m against institutional corruption. If you have hurt feelings from my tweets, you have soul searching to do.
If I mention you by name, (then I have proof in my back pocket) you can GFY.

So, it was a good day!
Among other things, the Sgt. conceded that I never had a fair shot when I worked for him. This is important because I was put there specifically to be given a “fresh start” by Ssgt Lobsinger.

Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDA’s) should be unlawful when they pertain to sexual assault/ or harassment.
They’re just a secondary form of assault/ intimidation.
Update:
#WRPS
had the hearing adjourned for the following reasons
1. They don’t know the details of what I’m complaining about.
2. My abuser, Nathan Cardoza has a right to be notified, present & participate.
3. I have to prove I’m medically fit to participate.
“The police don’t protect us from violence; the police are perpetrators of violence. Ask the non-cis, the non-white, the non-wealthy, and most broadly, the non-men. I do not want to be protected. I want to be free of violence.” TY
@monaeltahawy
Off to a great start today! Here’s a summary of our opening arguments:
Target of sexual rumours, lost back up, called a “bitch who deserves to get her ass kicked” by zone partner, micromanaged by Sgts, had to note when menstruating to justify washroom time
“Fernandes kissed her without consent. He pleaded guilty to that incident in December and was temporarily reduced in rank”
In the real world, this is called sexual assault…in policing, it’s just misconduct.
I want to add that hospital staff have been absolute angels to my family, they are the true heroes and always will be. Please think of them when it’s time to vote.

Yes. No matter what they do/say to me, the expectation is that I keep quiet. Nothing is private now. Silence enables abuse and I won’t have it.
I just reached 1,800 friends here!
I’m nowhere near finished exposing police corruption, and fighting for equal rights in the workplace.
Thank you for giving me a voice! 💕
A recap of todays hearing:
*WRPS wants me to stop calling them out on their harassment and retaliation.
*WRPS wants me barred from talking about how they abused the PSA, as a tool of harassment and retaliation against me.
Decision to be issued before May.

I’m glad the jury saw that this was a tragic accident. All of the facts and circumstances pointed to that end. Police are too emotionally charged to be unbiased. Too bad the crown couldn’t make that clear to them from the start.
