In fact, there are already many L2s that have separate fee structures for execution fee and data fee, including Scroll and OP stack chains. With the 4844 data blobs, the separation fee for execution and data makes more sense as L2 txs can benefit directly from the fee reduction

@stonecoldpat0 @lightclients Meanwhile, another important issue to consider is the state explosion on L2. I think the L3 and offchain oracle could be a powerful tool to mitigate the issue and provide an option for transient storage.

But the fundamental properties of all blockchains are decentralization and censorship resistance. That's what Scroll has been pursuing. I'd rather see more L3s with neutral settlements on L2 than fill out a Google form on zillions of L2s.

You can generate the proof for zkEVM in a few minutes with 4 GPUs, and the residency requirement for zk is orders of magnitude lower than PoW.

2. Multichain vs megachain They are the two ends of the spectrum of L2s. It's hard to predict the future but I think it will be somewhere in between. It's possible to have chains customized to a particular type of application while a few megachains exist for general use cases.

4. Evolving EVM EVM is not the end of the world but will keep evolving. It's true for both L2s and Ethereum. When we build zkEVM, we made certain trade-offs such as reducing the Keccak use to build a more performant zkEVM.

@gakonst This is a good question. I would say that there’ll exist adversarial contracts that are cheap in gas costs but expensive in the zk circuit spaces. That’s why we need to tweak the gas cost model a bit to prevent DOS.
