πΈ Photographer at Oxford City πΈ Hobby Sports Photographer π World Sports Photographer Shortlist 2023 β½ Footballer (admittedly just Vets now!) π‘ OUFC fan

5-2
@OxCityFC
.
A tough afternoon for a City but on a personal level that was an absolutely fantastic experience (apart from the rain!).
At 7.03am on Tuesday 6th February we welcomed our daughter Nola Eden Godfrey into the world, weighing 7lbs exactly βΊοΈ
What an incredible and humbling experience that was, I think Iβm one of the happiest men on the planet right now π
Scott McGleish is 46 and still playing a decent standard of football. Even if it's centre back and not banging goals in as you & I probably remember him.
As one chapter ends a new one begins, super excited to say I'll be joining the team at
@OxCityFC
for the new season.
A really exciting time for the club of course and an excellent opportunity for me personally to continue to develop my photography. Can't wait to get started πΈ
I cannot explain to you how long I've waited to get a shot of a plane flying through the moon (as it were).
Ironically I'd just looked at the moon and thought "good spot for it" and then a plane appears seconds later π
I also had the 300mm attached to my lens in the kitchen

Four years ago I was thinking of doing my UEFA B and continuing my coaching journey. Now I absolute love capturing this beautiful game πΈ
Part of me misses being on the sidelines but doing photography and football social media content gives me enough fulfilment ππ»
Would have been my dads 68th birthday today. This is at Wembley for the playoff final in 2010. Loved his sport and all the simple things in life. Weirdly, I may never have picked up a camera if he hadnβt told mum to give his to me after heβd passed away. 5 years this year β€οΈ
Move complete - what an absolutely exhausting day (and last couple of weeks). Good job weβve only got a week to get it sorted before hosting Christmas.
A picture my dad took in 2013. We lost 3-1 at home to Horspath that day. What I'd give to talk to him about football photography right now β₯οΈβ½οΈ
From 9 years old to 36, he was always there at football watching or taking photos.
So many incredibly talented photographers working in non-league and the standard just improve week-on-week ππ»
For what itβs worth, I always think as an amateur photographer you should focus on two things:
1. Your own improvement
2. Elevating and supporting others
Well my first rugby game was enjoyable - far from knowing anywhere near all the rules but an enthralling game between
@ChinnorRFCThame
&
@AlbionRFC
which the visitors won after some late drama.
Great to meet
@davidhowlett5
and put a face to the name π

Sports Photographers. I created a Facebook Group for those of us who're amateur/hobby/volunteer sports photographers, you can find it via the link below.
I hope it can be a friendly, positive place to share your weekend's work π Please Retweet.
Photographers running that awkward balance of getting the shots of the silence today but not being seen to be disrespectful.
I always tend to get a couple of shots as it starts and then stand to respect the silence.

Yes, we the country should be able to ensure all our children can eat and we should also be able to fund a funeral for the Queen. They do not need to be binary options.
I was nervous about taking this π First proper team photo Iβve done. Lads were class, no messing about and despite the sunshine I think this came out alright. Definitely a few things to learn for next time ππ»
πΈ | Thame United First Team 2021/2022 Season
The very best of luck to the squad & management team for this Saturday's league opener and the season ahead π
It's funny when you get involved in a new club. One minute you're just there taking photos without really knowing anyone but before you know it you're biting your nails & checking your watch to see how long is left in an FA Cup tie, and the clock's on 55 minutes π
There have been a few changes at Thame Utd but I'm going to stay there as a photographer and will also be helping them with their social media channels πβ½οΈ
@mrdanwalker
I used to work with a guy who said that it was safer NOT to wear a helmet on the basis that cyclists look more vulnerable without them and as a result car drivers are more careful. Weird logic that I wouldn't want to test.
I've written a blog post on my website with a collection of images that I guess you could say "define" my time at
@thameunitedfc
. Images which aren't necessarily my best but are those which capture important moments & emotions.
Setting up a new website for my sport/football photography so that people can buy my photos. Requests have increased and it's mad not to make some money back on the time and equipment investment that this hobby involves, even if it is a hobby :-)
Enjoyed meeting Ross (the manager) and a number of players at
@OxCityFC
last night.
When you turn up and see everything laid out before the session thereβs still that desire to get the boots on and wish you were out there πβ½οΈ
I've been to two
@OfficialOUWFC
games recently and it's easy to see why
@laurenhaynes11
is the captain. A dominant force in the middle of the park and a great range of passing in the locker π₯

Happy heavenly Fatherβs Day β€οΈ 5 years this year, not sure where thatβs gone tbh.
I probably wouldnβt have picked up a camera if dad hadnβt left me his πΈ
That was my last Thame Utd game of the season as we're away next weekend. 32 games in total this season for the first team and some brilliant moments captured along the way! Been a pleasure, see you in pre-season! (Unless there's an awards do π»).
With my time at Thame Utd coming to end end, here are the first pictures I took in August 2019, the FA Cup tie versus Leighton Town.
Nikon D3100 + a 70-300 F4 lens.
Comment for 4 from my last game.
Iβve never felt as sad about the passing of a former player as I have about Joey. I think itβs because I associate him with such fond memories of growing up watching
#OUFC
and with dad of course.
My album from last night's game between Thame Utd Res and Chalgrove in the
@OxfordshireFA
Intermediate Cup:
Congratulations to Thame and commiserations to Chalgrove!
I've just hit 1 million views on my Flickr account π
I think it's about 110 albums of photos from football, cricket & rugby.
The most popular album in my collection is the Oxfordshire Charity Cup final between
@YarntonFC
&
@ClubHailey
last April .
As it was dry thought Iβd get down for those lower perspectives πΈ
