If I have japan.eth, it's easy to use namewrapper to implement subdomain distribution plan, like $1000/Y for 1L(a.japan.eth), $500 for 2L, $100 for 3L, $50 for 4L and $1 for 5L+. During the lease period the parent domain has no control to subdomain, they can be sold on opensea.

Released ENS starting from $100M is an artistic rule. A fighting between greedy(wait for cheaper) and nothing. Everyone has the equal chance. Much better than the .com drop/catch, there are some registrars that has preferential EDI to catch the domain, which is not a fair game.

@VitalikButerin @punk6529 Problem is that today is not day one for ENS, lots of users already paid huge $$$ to buy the name, with the assumption that renewal expense is always $5/160/640 which was by ENS official, after they already paid hundreds of ETH, then telling them changing renewal fee is not fair.

@nicksdjohnson @ArthurB I see the point, but I think the number of years of stability needed to get most of the gains of stability is much less than infinity. You could also apply the scheme only to <7 letter domains, so people who really want the stability can pay a small convenience tax.
