There is no meat legally sold in U.S. with antibiotics in it. Antibiotics, when used by animal producers, must not be used within what’s known as the “withdrawl” period for that antibiotic so that the compound has washed out of the animals body by slaughter. Antibiotic use in…
When my grandpa couldn’t make it out to the farm as he got older, he’d call and have me hold the phone out the door so he could hear the bawlers.....miss him all the time.

Missing a friend today, did way more in his life than many. His simple obit said that he’d been a volunteer fireman when he was chief for many years. It said he served in World War II when he landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day & was wounded in the Battle of the Buldge. His Lord knew.
When China buys beef from U.S., they demand to know it’s origin (and they get it). But not U.S. consumers. Maybe that has to do with the half a billion pounds of beef imported into U.S. from Brazil this year (that’s seamlessly blended into our food supply).
@kansasangus
Not concerned with whether you can change your pickups oil, but am concerned about whether you can change your organizations mindset concerning the future importance of independent cattlemen.
It’s dry in western Iowa folks. Pic is a manure clod. From this field. Spread 2 years ago. Not enough moisture in two years to break it down. Rivers & streams drying up. $20,000 land doesn’t have much H20 left to raise anything in 2023. Get ready.
@MNelson_ISU

@MarkNel1026
We import 3 billion pounds of beef yearly. 60,000 semi loads. NCBA says “its low value beef” and it is low value coming into the U.S., but current rules allow this beef to be easily relabeled “USA” and sold as high value. That’s wrong and it’s hurting U.S. producers
In the last six weeks Carol and I have been blessed with the birth of a 2nd grandson and now a granddaughter. As unpleasant as 2020 has at times been, none of that compares to these wonderful gifts from God....
Senator, please work to reinstate Mandatory Country of Origin Labeling for cattle & beef in USMCA. Current rules allow beef from Mexico to be imported, rewrapped and labeled product of USA. Do you think U.S. cattle producers should be treated this way?
It’s been exactly one year since the USMCA, a modernized trade deal that will create jobs and boost our economy, was announced.
I’ve been crystal clear: the USMCA is a win for Iowa and our entire country.
@SpeakerPelosi
, it’s time to vote.

We bought & moved to a farm last fall. This week we finished fixing perimeter fence, adding new pens, put up hay, & hauled our own cows to our own place. As surreal as that feels, watching these 2 play in the new stock tank was the best part of it all. More memories to come
Unless we start to see a pattern shift QUICK, much of the northern belt will be out of moisture by July 1. Corn will have to silk under severe moisture stress, even if temps are normal. My corn averaged 100 bu/ac in 2012. This has the potential to be way worse.

If Big 12 whimps out, Corn Belt Conference baby! Busch Latte would be the official beer, Nebraska, Kansas, Kansas St., South Dakota State, University of South Dakota, Iowa State, Iowa, Missouri, Minnesota, Wisconsin. There would be some solid beer drinkin pregame ops right there.

Brazil has 200+ million cattle. They’re starting to put these cattle in feedlots, using corn and ethanol byproducts and by doing this will increase their beef output (quickly) by 25%. We must protect our domestic industry’s outstanding quality product with MCOOL or it’ll get ugly
@HyVee
Many are hearing (and seeing) you pulled locally raised and processed, super high quality beef from being sold in your stores in the K.C. Metro area. Was that just a HyVee decision or did your “regular” beef supplier weigh in and demand it be removed?

From Jan 1, 2021 through June, we’d imported from Brazil 137,651,915 lbs of beef that was dumped into the U.S. food supply unbeknown to U.S. consumers. They’ve had 3 recent BSE cases in Brazil. China halted imports yesterday. I’ve traveled in Brazil. We need M-COOL.

Packers telling northern feeders cattle must be 90% black to even get a bid, yet cattle like these easily sell in the south. Amazing packers (and minions) got traction with the lie that AMA’s are all about quality. AMA’s are about control!
@kansasangus
NCBA needs to realize that the typical low-information NCBA member is no longer willing to go along with NCBA initiatives that have led to U.S. cattle industry destruction for over a generation. The fire down in Holcombe has awoken even the most uninvolved cattleman/NCBA member.
Annual Siouxland Ag In The Classroom tractor ride this morning. As I drive one of our ‘70 IHC 1026’s and listen to the hydro howl, can’t help thinking of dad, on his favorite tractor, his grandson & great grandson on the tractor right ahead of me. He’s smiling.

In ‘15 when the choice box was just over $240, fat cattle were at $160. Now the choice box is $240 and the fat market is only $114. R-CALF USA is working it’s nuts & bolts off to put a stop to this before the cattle industry integrates. Please join us in the fight!
@seedcattleguy
Farm gate cattle prices are now worth less than hogs, yet (magically) a week later beef brings triple the price of pork in stores. How? If you’re a member of ag media, please call this out! Beef packing concentration is breaking cattlemen.

COSCO U.S. is a big active buyer of U.S. corn. But not reported as an export sale until they move that inventory to COSCO China. Oh, COSCO is the big corn short in Chicago. Likely till just before they move their inventory on paper to China. USDA allows this.
@MarketToMarket
What a mess agriculture is when integration takes hold. I push for fair markets for cattlemen and the way some folks react you’d think I’m proposing taking their first born. Good thing this country got founded when it did cuz there ain’t enough integrity left to get it done today
For years the select box price was the benchmark for what slaughter cattle bids were. Yesterday the select box was at $215.77 and there were cattle bid & sold yesterday at $152. Over $60 diff. Market power folks. This industry will die
@MarkNel1026
unless strong action is taken.
$850+ packer margins are indefensible. NCBA members & affiliates must call them out (and quit) or they too will have blood on their hands as the U.S. cattle industry nears total corporate integration.
@HemmertKyle
@NeCattlemen
@IAcattlemen
$1309 packer margin/head, all time record while we’re trading cattle in the south today at $122-$123. That NCBA’s recent CattleCON found only carbon & taxes to be problems should wake up everyone.

Cattle producers produce cattle, packers produce beef. Relabeling what cattlemen do as “beef” production was contrived to capture cattleman’s willingness to go along with a beef checkoff. With packer margins at near $1200 & cattle margins at $0, all can clearly see.

It was with high honor that I drove these three WWII vets in Kingsley, Iowa’s annual parade. Our families M38-A1 army Jeep may never again hold such precious, selfless cargo!
Barking up the correct tree would be helpful. Cattle producers are suffering from a lack of competition due to packer concentration. They’re not suffering from lack of FSA involvement.
At
@uscattlemen
annual meeting, we invited USDA Farm Service Agency Administrator Zach Ducheneaux to speak. One of the things he is going to work on is offering more support to livestock producers as the other industries have had a lot more support from government. /1
Regional in Omaha bid $118 late last week for local cattle. No takers as they held for more. Same regional went to Texas panhandle late Friday and bought Texas beauts for $118 and paid the freight back to Omaha ($5-$6/cwt). But all they’d bid locally was $118 flat.
@HemmertKyle
In 2022, average profit/bred cow in the U.S. was $11.91 (USDA data). That number is why the cow herd is not rebuilding & why many ranchers had no choice but to liquidate during drought. Groups not talking about competition don’t care about you.

The biggest swine feed customer of one of the biggest supply co-ops in Iowa is the Chinese. Wake up to the facts, Congressman. The Chinese own more hogs in Iowa than anyone else. Exactly who are you representing here?

How is the strongest bill now in Congress to help cattle producers filed by a vegan from a non ag state? Meat packing (NAMI/NCBA) lobbying power at work. Booker wouldn’t even be in the conversation if cattle state MOC were doing their jobs!
@kenziej89
@LonesomeLands
American agriculture is at a critical juncture: If USDA continues on current path, within a generation most ag producers will simply be contract employees of a handful of giant firms. In the early 1920’s this was turned back. Needs to be again. Hope you brought this up with Sonny
Archies Waeside in LeMars does it again! Been eating the best steaks in existence there for 55 years! Lorrie & Bob continue to make cattle producers proud!
Our checkoff could never muster this. Come to think of it, with creators of fake meat on the NCBA board, likely never will until our checkoff is completely reformed.
That’s a man cart right there: 2 Whiskey’s, 5 diff beers, wine, chips & dip, olives, pickles, cheese. Wondering where’s the meat? Aging fridge has 2 strip loins & 2 ribeyes. End of 2019 (good riddance)/start of 2020 gonna be celebrated right. Merry Christmas! Happy New Year!

U.S. farmers rely on USDA. While large Agri-Business has the wherewithal to take care of itself, this secretary supports big ag biz over the heart and soul of America. Animal agriculture has been reduced to caretakers euthanizing animals while Ag monopolies profit.

We sat in the same spot my Grandpa Roy and family are sitting in a picture we have from the 1950’s. This time we had grandson Roy & granddaughter Margaret along while Archies grandson Bob Rand and granddaughter Lorrie took care of us. Nelson’s been loving Archies for 70 years!
Major packer here buys cattle Live & freight paid (but qualifies they must provide ‘their’ trucks) 4 trucks sent instead of 5, trucks weigh 110,000+gross and take 30+ minutes to load per load with 3 hot shots on each critter, shrink like crazy. Same packer lauds BQA publicly.....
NCBA policy is what’s governed the cattle industry the last 20 years. Things are currently a mess for much of the cattle business, all time best for meat packer NCBA board members. Do cattlemen want more of the same?
If we had 400 beef packers/processors with 85% control instead of 4, making changes within the chain to cater to reworked demand patterns because of Covid would likely be way better. Sorry, I know I’m talking logic again.

Eric quit talking logic....the US Farmer and Rancher are the only people allowed to sell for a loss in the food pipeline, and when they do it’s all their fault...everyone else gets to cut their losses and give excuses...we have to go do chores
This program is nothing more than window dressing. There are non BQA certified cattle being sold (at hefty discounts) at sale barns every day that I, as a BQA certified person, can buy, load in my truck and sell them as BQA certified.
The Beef Quality Assurance program continues to grow significantly, with more than 100,000 cattle producers now certified through its online learning system. The online option was introduced by the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association in 2017.
NCBA shows no outrage because Impossible Foods developers are major financial contributors and sit on NCBA’s board. NCBA is portrayed (through control of checkoff funds) as THE spokesman for the U.S. cattle industry with most elected officials buying this (though NCBA is NOT).
In a comment this week to the
@washingtonpost
, Impossible Foods' chief communications officer said, “The reality is that Impossible Foods wants to eliminate animal agriculture."
Imagine the outrage if the beef industry made such a statement? Where's YOUR outrage? 🤔
BQA & TQA are voluntary, but not if you want to deliver cattle to a packer, then mandatory, but started out innocuously voluntary. How will “voluntary” EID turn out?
@NCBA
pushed for BQA/TQA now EID. Control corrupts.

What about all the rural areas in Arkansas where parents have no private schools close enough to send their children to? This appears to be a plan to promote the further hollowing out of rural Arkansas and other states proposing the same scheme. It is shameful.
@the_meat_lady
Life without roughly 20% of our slaughter/processing capacity (happens to be JBS). Likely another nail in the coffin of allowing the so called “efficiently” model of having only 4 packers with 85+% of all capacity.

Thanks to

for being a cosponsor with Senator Grassley and others of the 50/14 cash negotiated bill aimed at helping cattlemen across the country. Iowa cattlemen raise cattle of the highest quality and unfair markets have been hurting their incomes for years.
Remember when we were told all trade will be wonderful? Well, they forgot to mention wonderful mainly for only a few……now we import lamb when our sheep producers are in trouble, beef at a time when producer equity must be replaced, and soybeans when domestic U.S. prices are…
At least three U.S.-bound cargo ships are preparing to load with

at two ports in Northern Brazil in the first such bulk shipments since last summer, according to shipping lineup data seen by Reuters.

NCBA president had the chance to set the record straight yesterday before the Senate Ag Committee and said one of the cattle industry’s biggest problems is predatory birds. I encourage everyone to search for Senate Ag Committee hearing. You’ll hear why the industry is in trouble.
Antitrust enforcement has been lax or this wouldn’t have become an issue. What’s happens when it’s realized that a significant # of hogs & cattle (& the plants they’re processed in) are owned by foreign corps, allowed by not enforcing antitrust laws.

Now that a M-COOL bill is back in play, cattlemen will see how they’ve been misled by the “meat” industry that costs of M-COOL are prohibitive. Lot tracking is already mandated by Homeland Security. All food items in stores list country of origin (except pork & beef)
