As this story notes, the hijab is incredibly significant for many Muslim women, as is the cover it provides. I cannot imagine how violating it must feel to have it forcibly removed in the presence of strangers -- especially men -- and then to have it publicized.

@nbc4i I say "likely" because my review of the archives was hasty. What I found is that a protester here and there have been arrested for "criminal trespass" over the years, but the last time a mass arrest occurred seemed to be during anti-Vietnam War protests in the 60s/70s.

The first time a medical professional asked for my pronouns — and the first time I publicly used "she/they" — was in the ER this spring. Then they misgendered me in my charts. This story is so important to me, and I'm so grateful to be able to share it:

today I found out that insurance companies don’t cover all dosages of a medication. I cannot afford the medication I need because my insurance decided the dose my doctor prescribed is unnecessary. the worst part is my insurance is through my dad’s employer — a hospital system.

Just yesterday I gave @TheLantern a training on sexual violence reporting. I’m told I’m “very knowledgeable.” It’s because I have been sexually assaulted more than once. How can a newsroom fairly and empathetically report on something if its “objectivity” excludes experience?

I’ve reflected on my recovery a lot this past month. After nearly six years of continuing to live, I am proud of who I’ve become. But I want to emphasize this: the biggest difference between the person I was then and who I am now is not that I’m “stronger” or “braver.”
