@emmaketchup7 Superlatives were out of control at my high school. There was one for best legs. Others were just stupid. There was one for ‘going to college furthest away’ that we voted on and didn’t just check. The person going the furthest away did not win.

The @NASA_Orion spacecraft has finished over three months of testing @NASA Plum Brook Station. It will travel to space next year for the Artemis I mission, an unmanned mission. The spacecraft will leave Ohio in about a week.

Ohio now has the highest daily average of any state for COVID hospitalizations, according to the New York Times. We rank fifth for cases per 100k residents, third for hospitalizations per 100k residents and third for daily average deaths.

I found out that Gannett eliminated the only news reporter position at the Ashland @timesgazette (it was unfilled). That was my first job a few years ago. There wasn't enough of me to cover the community of 50k people. I am so sad for Ashland. Democracy, community will suffer.

When thinking about six-week abortion bans, know that six weeks into pregnancy = six weeks after your last period/FOUR weeks after sex. So after a missed period (if your period is regular), you have two weeks to get an abortion in Ohio.

@nytimes This is great news. But remember, supply will be very limited at first (in a week, Pfizer is expected to deliver to the U.S. enough pills to cover just 65,000 Americans) and experts say prevention through vaccination is still our best tool in this fight.

It was recently my one-year anniversary at @DispatchAlerts . I’m struck by how much I’ve learned just working in a physical newsroom where I can observe how more experienced reporters do things. Working from home is great but it has drawbacks, especially for newbies.

With huge numbers of Ohioans still not vaccinated COVID-19 hospitalizations are rising & it's like last year's winter surge. Back then it was hard to get a vaccination. Now it is easy to get one, yet only 54% of Ohioans are fully vaccinated.

Yet another thing my journalism school didn’t prepare me for: being bashed on social media for being biased, an “indoctrinated NY scholar,” a “skeezer” and being ugly/having short hair. I try to remember that the critics are the most vocal and not to read the comments.

I’m thankful my car accident Monday was not worse than a broken arm, people at the scene and the hospital were so kind to me, my surgeon, Liz who held my hand through two arm reductions, especialli my mother who flew to NY within five hours of me calling her, and talk to text.

Today I interviewed a source by phone who had a babbling toddler in their lap. They were very apologetic and I tried to convince them that I understand. Many of us are working from home and dealing with the challenges that accompany that. It’s all good dude. ❤️😷

Rosa Lee Weinert, 92, is “thrilled” to be one of the first Montgomery County residents to get the coronavirus vaccine on the first day of Phase 1B vaccinations in Ohio. A long-time nurse, she tells everyone she knows to get the vaccine when it’s available.

Starting at about 4:30 pm everyday, Rosie sits and stares at me, whining occasionally. It can be very distracting. The time varies but she knows that when I get off work and get up from my chair, I will feed and walk her. 😅

Today I learned that a group of kids in Worthington have a publication called Neighborhood News. This issue has comics, a feature, (fake) ads and an opinions section about who gets more turns. It has an interactive spinner. That’s the kind of innovation that will save news. 📰🥰

I went to cover today’s downtown Ashland protest in support of Black Lives Matter. I interviewed a few people. Then the leader told me he wouldn’t speak to me unless I protested with them and held up a sign. I tried to explain that I have to be an impartial observer. (1/3)

Folks who pull their masks down to talk boggle my mind. People really don’t understand how masks work or the purpose. That is when it’s most important to keep the mask on: when talking to somebody in close range. 😷❤️
