To grow our economy, create jobs, continue to attract global events, conferences & sports, and reduce pressure on local housing, we need more hotel rooms. That’s why I’m asking City Council to take steps to ensure Vancouver can build needed hotels & a competitive visitor economy.

I’m so fed up. This reckless & dismissive behaviour of travelling for vacation and internationally (so far from politicians ON, AB & MB) reinforces negative stereotypes of politicians, and tars all with the same brush. It makes a mockery of health orders. Makes me angry.

Like to see City let Junko Playtime spider art Phobia stay where it is for people to enjoy for a while. Artists like this choose specific sites for a reason. Vancouver has enough serious issues to deal with without rushing to sanitize every bit of whimsy.

Honoured to bring this motion forward and stand with Vancouver’s Jewish community & my council colleagues against ongoing & rising antisemitism. Vancouver now joins Canada and BC in supporting IHRA. Education is the most powerful tool we have against hate.

We are proud to stand with the Jewish community both in Vancouver and around the world. Antisemitism has no place in our city and today we take an important step towards a more inclusive and safe society for all.

Voting for this budget is a broken promise to Vancouver residents, renters, homeowners, families, young people & small businesses. Mayor & Council promised taxes would 5% max. Now majority have raised taxes whopping 25%+ in 4 years. Don’t know anyone whose income has gone up 25%.

Work on improved Granville Bridge starts soon! I pushed for a design that prioritized the pedestrian experience closest to water AND delivered better cycling infrastructure. Also includes removal of loops & creation new street network. Will be fantastic.
The Mayor & majority Council’s decision not to fund police budget wasn’t due to Covid pressures. That’s spin. Mayor saw opp to chip away at police budget & took it. No other BC city did. And no, taxes don’t have to go up again because you’re not funding core responsibilities.
Vancouver Mayor Kennedy Stewart says the next city council will need to decide how to offset the nearly $6 million it must restore to the police department with a hike in property taxes.

I’m bringing Combatting Antisemitism Motion in Vancouver to Council week July 23rd. VPD reports Jewish community most targeted group for hate crimes in city. If you deplore
#racism
, care about this. Govt of Canada does: it adopted as part of its national anti-racism strategy.
Council approved Broadway Plan next steps. We need to get desperately needed new housing - rental, social, non-profit - moving now. We don’t need a pace of change policy that limits to only 5 projects/year on a $2.8B subway with 50k new residents coming to region every year…
Wow. So City has 1,800 people on lay-off, supposed to have hiring freeze & we’re seeing major litter & street disorder impacts in City. But Council cuts needed boost for litter pickup & street cleaning, and votes in support of a new social media hire for City Manager’s office.
I’m so fed up. This sign was a small thing that provided some levity & smiles during a tough time. We need more kindness not the opposite. I hope

I think all our hearts ♥️ are in North Vancouver tonight. As someone who lived there and worked in a local library, mine is. Our thoughts are with the victims, families, loved ones, neighbours, community and first responders all impacted by this tragic event.
Motion up next week on increasing or doubling allowable frequency of events held in informal venues each month. This would create “greater flexibility for the arts and culture sector” and contribute to a “more culturally vibrant city.”

Vancouver, this is SERIOUS. By doing exact opposite of PHO warnings, you’re putting many at risk: hospitality staff, businesses, first responders, your families/friends, you. Parts Europe back on lockdown, Winnipeg code red. Don’t force BC to 2nd lockdown or drag this out longer.

Whether it’s this violent attack at Coastal GasLink site, threats of violence from trucker convoy in Ottawa, pulling down Gassy Jack statue or burning churches, we and our democracy all suffer when peaceful protest turns to violence and destruction.
I’m disgusted by this. There’s no place for this in our civic politics. But I am sad to say that harassment is real. We all need to call this behaviour out. And it is deeply concerning there has been no direct apology to the person targeted.

We can't let Vancouver decay. Residents deserve to feel safe & have clean neighbourhoods. And impoverished deserve housing & more, coordinated mental health/addictions treatment. City needs to do our part for clean, safe streets now while we advocate voraciously for $ & services.
