Make no mistake, we are the lucky ones. Our lives still intact. Our love still to give. Don’t waste a moment.
Thinking of a fallen musical brother, who gave to us in song what he perhaps couldn’t find in life.
With love to Scott Hutchison’s family, in memory of a great man.

To earn what we need to keep going
Prevent what you once felt when wee

Inscription on Hillhead Underground mural by the late Alasdair Gray, who I’m sad to hear has died. A great Scottish artist and writer.
RIP
#AlasdairGray
Took my Dad to see Dylan at The Armadillo on Sunday. 5 rows from the front, worth every penny. We’ve seen him many times, but this was by far the best. After “Key West” my Dad extended his hand to shake mine, as if to say: “that’s what it’s all about, son”. And it is. Thanks Bob.
Keep running this moment over in my head: the last time I saw Scott, only a few weeks ago. He was always a joy to talk to. I’ll remember the smile most, I think. That unassuming, gentle smile. His brother Grant, Scott’s most constant musical companion, very much in my thoughts.
“And the Emmy goes to…”
Surreal. It appears we actually won. Having come dead last at every race I ever ran at school, I’m gonna take this one. Huge thanks + love to our co-writers
@andrewbarbot
and
#JessLacher
for accepting the award from LA on our behalf too!
@TheAnimaniacs
So bloody happy to share the news that
@tommyreilly
and I are working on a new project: writing songs for the reboot of Steven Spielberg’s legendary “Animaniacs”. Can’t wait to let you hear what we’ve been cooking up with an amazing team. Airing 2020 on Hulu via Warner Bros
TONIGHT! I’m in conversation with the mega
@NoelGallagher
for a special
#BBCQuaySessions
. We talk 10 years of High Flying Birds, U2, Record Store Day, the Euros and much more. A thoroughly entertaining man. Trust me, it’s not to be missed. 8pm

Watching old pals get together and play their epic music again makes my heart swell.
@delgados_the
were just so brilliant at The Barras last night. It’s lovely to have them back.
Can’t stop thinking about him, and all the other lost souls out there. This one’s for Scott Hutchison
@owljohn

Lost another auld acquaintance to suicide this week. People say we should talk more: he talked every day, and with great honesty. He’ll be forever missed for his humour and charm and warmth and humanity. Turns out every day should be Mental Health Awareness Day.
The Billy Connolly two-parter on BBC was beautiful, sensitive, reflective, nostalgic, funny, sad. Basically just very human. And he’s one of the best to ever walk this earth.
Apologies for the vain RTs, but knowing that those who made it to Roaming Roots Revue
@ccfest
had a good time means the world. The show is a lot of work for one night only, but it’s a true labour of love. Bringing these wonderful musicians together is everything. Set list 👇🏻
Fuck, just checked my timeline after a wee Twitter break and I’m in bits reading your comments. We’re SO GLAD you felt this gig worked. My hat is off to all the amazing artists, crew and festival folk who helped make it a reality. See you all when the light turns green

In a most unexpected turn of events, we seem to have been nominated for a fecking EMMY for a song that
@tommyreilly
and I wrote alongside
@andrewbarbot
and Jess Lacher for
@TheAnimaniacs
. Truly thrilled to be a small part of the this phenomenal show. I’m away for a lie down now.
It sounds trite to say, but I still think about Scott Hutchison loads despite only really knowing him in a professional capacity. Miss that complex yet very human individual, and all that he gave us.
Lovely to be in the company of
@Tim_Burgess
this morning to talk the new album, listening parties, and staying creative during lockdown. Hear it next week
@bbcquaysessions
(and then, if folk are up for it, I’ll post the video interview too?!)
An hour long highlights show will shine a light on one of the best gigs we’ve had the pleasure of performing. Roaming Roots Revue “Songs Of Modern Scotland: Celtic Connections” is on

Had a dream I interviewed Bob Dylan. I shouted questions at him from a window as he treaded water in a river below (wearing a yellow wetsuit). I concluded by asking “what’s next, Bob?”. He simply rapped two verses of “Ice Ice Baby” then swam away.
What does it all mean?
Big congrats to the albums on the
@SAYaward
long list! Some great diverse records there for sure. But if you didn’t make it, remember: music ain’t no competition. If you managed to create something from nothing and bravely turn it to face the world then you’re a legend to me.
Thanks to everyone who watched Songs Of Modern Scotland on
@BBCScotland
. A joy to relive it. And if it left you wanting more…there’s a 90minute director’s cut heading your way on St Andrew’s Day later this year 👌🏻 Watch this space.
THE TIME A CROW TRIED TO SHAG MY HEAD (A Thread)
These are truly horrible times. So - in amongst all the crippling anxiety, shit poems, and frantic merch selling - I thought we could all do with a wee story. Some light relief. It’s about the time a crow tried to shag my head.
NEWS! 🤟🏻💥
Over the last year
@tommyreilly
and I have been writing our first stage musical: an adaptation of Peter Mullan’s beautifully dark ORPHANS for the National Theatre of Scotland. Very proud, can’t wait for you all to see it when it hits Scottish theatres next Spring! 👇🏻
Orphans is a new Scottish musical written by Douglas Maxwell and directed by Cora Bissett, with lyrics and score by Roddy Hart and Tommy Reilly.
Based on the film from Scottish actor & filmmaker Peter Mullan, the production will premiere at Glasgow’s SEC Armadillo in April 2022.
Turns out (as a Springsteen fan) pulling together a Springsteen show comprising all his best bits and making it come in at under, say, 5 hours is a bloody difficult task. Lock in
@ccfest
?
How lucky we are to have lived on this earth at the same time as Dylan. In almost 60 years of making records, no one has touched the human experience through music in quite the same way. I’m not sure anyone ever will again. We are thankful for you, Bob. Happy 80th Birthday.
Tonight
@RoddyHart
introduces a very special archive session from
@FRabbits
. The incredible musical talent of Scott Hutchison shines through in this performance from Nov 2016, which sees him accompanied by The Rogue Orchestra. BBC 2 Scotland 10.45pm.
Some photos I captured for Roaming Roots Revue: Songs For Survival. It was an emotional thing to do, and TONIGHT AT 9PM you’ll get the chance to see us all play music that we hope brings a little light to the darkness we’ve all faced...(1/2)
And we can do more...A week of rehearsals, a day with the artists (
@LisaHannigan
here) and we have a show. Tomorrow and Monday, Roaming Roots Revue turns 8 years old with a Bruce Springsteen 70th for
@ccfest
. Let’s do this!
So take a bow Ricky, Dougie, Jim, Lorraine, Gregor and Lewis. You took me - and about 13,000 others - to a higher place last night and gave me a timely reminder of just what it is to be “lost in the music”. I loved every second of it. (3/3)
Watching the constant stream of couples/families/pals walk past my window with zero regard for social distancing and thinking: why are people so fucking stupid sometimes?

Almost three years in the making. Writing, singing, redrafts, loads of coffee, a pandemic, auditions, recording, and a very kind of Scottish creative joy. Today we start rehearsals on

Lovely to have a wee song I wrote years ago covered so beautifully by the brilliant
@SorrenMaclean
and

for

. They do a better version than me! Check out their set, and a bunch of other amazing performances, as part of the festival now!

An amazing night, and thank you for all the truly lovely comments in my twitter feed. They mean the world to me. And we get to bring it to a whole new audience at the Fruitmarket tonight. Very lucky. Ps review contains set list spoilers!
How two Scottish boys came to be working on this is a whole other story, but writing songs and other musical bits and pieces for this has been an amazing journey. Especially with a bunch of absolute legends like this involved. Here’s a wee behind the scenes peek!
🎉 HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANIMANIACS! 🎉
To celebrate the 27th anniversary of the original series premiere, we're giving you a special behind-the-scenes look of your favorite voice cast at work.
Stream brand new episodes of

It’s on giant billboards which must mean it’s an actual film coming out in actual cinemas. A true thrill to have done the music for this alongside my brotherman

SINCERE TWEET: pretty humbling - and sobering - to host

in Aberdeen tonight. One of 4 cities staging sleepouts to try and raise awareness of homelessness in Scotland and eradicate it. I’m in deep admiration of all taking part, donating, and telling their stories.
HEREIN STARTS THE THREAD FOR LIVE TWEETING ROAMING ROOTS REVUE 2021: SONGS FOR SURVIVAL, being broadcast at 9PM. Follow under here and check for updates as we go! I’ll do my best to steer us through. Love Roddy 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

Truly touched by all the messages about the Roaming Roots shows over the weekend. Your enthusiasm and support means everything. It was a joy to pull together, and a privilege to share the stage with so many talented musicians. Memories that will stay with me for a lifetime…
The
@ccfest
Roaming Roots Revue last night was one of the greatest gigs it's been my privilege to attend in forty years of concert-going. Congratulations to
@roddyhart
and to the many, many people whose work and talent made it all possible.
So many hits written and/or played on this guitar: Baker Street, Right Down The Line, Get It Right Next Time and countless others. Gerry Rafferty’s muse (beautifully painted by his old pal John Byrne) was with us on stage last night, and it was special
@SpreeFestival
A great night launching the
@BBCScotland
channel in Glasgow. May it be an inclusive, diverse, thoughtful, funny, informative, creative, magical channel for the WHOLE of Scotland. One that nurtures new talent and celebrates established legends. Let’s go.
TONIGHT! A special 1hr highlights show from "Songs Of Modern Scotland" Roaming Roots Revue for Celtic Connections. 10pm on BBC Scotland and BBC iPlayer. A joy to perform with so many talented artists, don't miss it! (And stay tuned for some more news after the broadcast) (1/2)
These are scary, unreal times. But there is always comfort in sound. I’m not selling anything here, but want to let you know I’ll be live from 10pm if you fancy switching the TV off and joining me for a few hours of great music. I could do with the company, maybe you could too.
Heartbreaking. A cruel and unbearably sad loss. Beldina was a captivating talent and truly gorgeous musical soul with so much more to give to the world. My band and I send our deepest condolences to her family and loved ones.
Boris Johnson saying “many more families are going to lose loved ones before their time” feels unbelievably crass. Obfuscation when it comes to the facts is not what we want, but the least we can ask of our “leaders” is to imbue any moment of despair with a little hope.
If anyone tells you I impulsively bought a giant £10 M&S Chocolate Log just for me to eat over the festive period then they are a liar and I will hunt them down like the dog they are. But first I must go and be violently sick. Happy Christmas everyone! 🎄

As a wee boy, I used to hear my sister blaring “Queen of the New Year” from her bedroom. Then my Dad got me hooked on “Fellow Hoodlums” (still one of my favourite records ever) in the 90s, and then my band got the chance to tour with them over 10 years ago...(1/3)
Haven’t played a gig for a while. I’ve missed it very much. Great to kick off
@SpreeFestival
with a sold out show in honour of Gerry Rafferty tonight. AND IN A BIG FANCY TENT.
