📣📣 Beyond excited to announce that after nearly 20 years, I will be returning to Europe in August 2023 to join the new research institute,
@ISTAustria
. 🧵
Prof. Rafal Klajn
@rafalklajn
will join
@istaustria
next Summer! Apply now to become part of his group to study how molecules behave in confined spaces and participate in developing a new generation of stimuli-responsive materials!
Honored & grateful to receive the 2019 Kimmel Award from the Weizmann Institute of Science, $1,000,000 in unrestricted funds intended for crazy ideas. Now, the challenge is to spend the money wisely!
Our nanoparticle crystals have just gotten way better! Our new preprint “Catalan solids from superionic nanoparticles”: great effort by Dr. Tong Bian + big thanks to our collaborators from 🇧🇪 & 🇺🇸. Also, our first ever ChemRxiv submission!
It is a great honor to receive a 2021 Blavatnik Award for Young Scientists in Israel
@BlavatnikAwards
an award that honors the great work of our group members during the past decade. Congratulations to fellow laureates
@YovelBatLab
and
@IdoKaminer
Exceptionally proud of this paper, where we introduce the concept of photosensitive glue for nanoparticles. Great work by Jinhua Wang (who, just several weeks ago, published a
@J_A_C_S
article on something entirely different!)
We are proud to present the results of our studies on confined spiropyrans Open Access in
@J_A_C_S
. We show that the host’s symmetry can profoundly affect the behavior of spiropyrans – great work by Jinhua, along with
@Supermolecule01
@StawskiWojtek
et al.
Nanoparticles we missed working with you! In this paper, we describe a new method to crystallize nanoparticles - en route to nanostructured materials Led by Tong Bian, in collaboration with

📢📢 Postdoc opportunity! Join us to work on new nanomaterials or in the field of supramolecular chemistry! A generously funded position for candidates of any nationality who completed their PhD in Europe or Canada. Please contact me for details. RT = 🤍
In a new paper, we show that a supramolecular host recently used for disequilibrating azobenzenes (DESC) undergoes a quantitative transformation into a DESC-inactive host upon binding tetrahedral guests:
Materials scientists / structural chemists / crystallographers! We stumbled across something unexpected (see the comment immediately below). Has anybody seen anything with such structural features? If yes, please email or DM me (or reply here).
RTs appreciated!

Today marks the 60th death anniversary of the Weizmann Institute photochemist Yehuda Hirshberg, who passed away on September 20, 1960. He isn’t very well known, so let me take this opportunity to write a bit about him in what is my first thread on Twitter. (1/9)
22 years today since EJ Corey signed my copy of this book after agreeing to a meeting in his office—such an inspiring day for a high school student passionate about organic chemistry
Our perspective on dissipative self-assembly, in which we seek analogies between chemically and light-fueled systems: Excellent work by two

students
@EnfelsMaren
and
@juliusgemen
Extremely proud of these two outstanding two young researchers, Oksana and Julius, who are completing their PhD degrees this month, good luck in your further academic careers, the future is bright! 💡
In the 1960s, Weizmann Institute photochemists were routinely performing experiments with sunlight on the roof of the Institute. Fifty years later, we find ourselves on the same roof photoisomerizing our molecules with an early February Israel sun - so much fun!
The flexible triimidazole-based cage keeps surprising us: here we show that it can encapsulate various BODIPY derivatives as dimers, thus modulating their optical properties. Great job by the duo of excellent German student and postdoc, Julius and Johannes
Many congratulations
@CarolynBertozzi
, a recipient of both the 2022 Wolf Prize and the 2022 Nobel Prize. Here is an important message she delivered on the first occasion, four months ago.
Our lockdown project is finished! Welcome to our new group website. A big thank you to the amazing Weizmann Institute IT team members Rachel, Ariela, Maayan, and Hofit.
