Penistone Tier 3
London Tier 2
A good win for rural Penistone with 25000 inhabitants & a downward Covid trajectory, vs a strong urban London side where Covid is on the up & a population of 8.9 million !
Next up we play the Isles of Scilly !
#UpTheChurch
Imagine being a Premier League footballer !
#BreakingPoint
Imagine being a
#NonLeague
footballer who’s working Christmas Day (again) for the NHS, sleeping on Boxing Day and then hopefully playing twice in five days !

- get over yourselves !
GOALLLLLL!!!!
And the one that we all wanted!!!
Brett Lovell, but from the halfway line!!! Absolutely unbelievable strike!!

#Legend
Brett Lovell play his part in our last home game of the season and his very last game as a player !
The boots will be hung up on his 300+ appearances for Church at 5pm - but before that we’re sure he’ll get ‘some minutes’ on the pitch.
■ Man Of The Match ■
Not surprising, it goes to the scorer of possibly the furthest goal ever seen from In his own half, and on his last home game, the one and only Mr Brett Lovell.
Given to him by his lovely mum, Linda
Everyone at Penistone Church was sad to hear that Andrew Battye sadly passed away after relentlessly & bravely battling with cancer.
@battowl
will forever be remembered for his smile and love for life.
Thoughts are with his family and all of his many friends.
#RIPBattye
𝗛𝗔𝗟𝗙-𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗘: Church 3-1
@Emley_AFC
💪
However, what’s even better is this:
Today’s attendance is a MASSIVE 825 👏👏 and a new record attendance for us as a club at that!
Huge thanks for your incredible support. ⚫️⚪️
#UpTheChurch
Today we say goodbye to a friend, one of our fans and an all round great lad.
Andrew Battye did everything with a smile - he’ll be sorely missed.

Tip of the hat goes to Brett Lovell today.
Brett made his 250th start for Church today and his 253rd appearance in total.
His goal was his 53rd goal for the club.
.... with still so much to give, but a worthy shout out to the ‘Big Man’.
So, now the news is out that the legend Brett Lovell is finally hanging up his boots, we're sure you'd love to give him a good send off on Saturday. Let's pack the ground for him.
Even though he's hanging up his playing boots, he will still be a massive part of PCFC
Great to see
@swfc
not only promoting non-league football but using an image of The Memorial Ground to do so.
We hope to see a whole load of Wednesday fans on Saturday for our FA Vase game vs
@BridTownAFC
➡️
Sadly we’ve been made aware of the actions of some of our supporters.
They’ve let themselves, their families & the club down in recent times.
This will it be tolerated.
Anyone now found to quote / post on social media about
#LoveIsland
will serve an immediate six month ban.
We’re delighted that Brett Lovell has committed to the club for the long term future in a player-coach role.
He’s a stalwart of our club for many years now & you’ll not find anyone who is more committed to Church & who knows non league football as well as he does at our level.
It is with the heaviest of hearts we share the news that lover of Non-league football and a friend to many of you & your clubs, is that Charlie Wyatt has sadly passed away.
After a year of ill health Charlie remained positive throughout and he will be missed by everyone.
Cont..
Massive thanks to
@YorkCityFC
for the deal in selling us some seats for the
@dibsastructures
DSM Memorial Ground.
Nicely stowed away for when we decide to develop the Memorial Ground further.
Is it a ‘new player signing’ when it is one of your players from last season ?
Some clubs announcing all sorts.
I ain’t got time to be doing 16 signing announcements like that.
As we said a little time ago. We lost a few. We’ll get a few in. And everybody else is staying.
Did you know ….
Another milestone for stalwart Brett Lovell last night.
Not only recently did he top 300 appearances for Church but now is ….
….. our first player to play and now score in every one of our nine NCEL Seasons.
Everyone at
@pcfc1906
wishes Bayley Hassell the best of luck and to let you know we’re all right behind you as you start your chemotherapy.
A few years back Bayley played a season for one of our Church junior sides before joining
@BarnsleyFC
For those 357 of you that were there on Saturday, you saw possibly the greatest goal scored at the
@parkerroofing
Memorial Ground on the Big Man's last dance by himself.
For those of you that missed it, well here it is!
Surely it's worthy of a
@SoccerAM
showing 😉

🏅 Dave Hampshire
💬 “Dave has been the secretary at

for 30 years. The hours that he has devoted to the club are incredible. A true volunteer who always has a smile on his face."

2020 will soon be finished and we’ll all look forward, but we also take a moment to remember those family & friends we lost this year.
All in all too many, but our thoughts are with ‘club men’ Phill Allen &
@Matm17Mather
families today.
It is 100% silly season !
We’ve had three offers today for someone to do our graphics for three years !
Thank you. But you’re drunk.
……… we do not have £500 up front.
We do not then have £50 a month.
This is
#nonleaguefootball
- we’ll get the crayons out and do our own.
Dear
@juventusfcen
We see
@aaronramsey
is on £400k per week from July when he joins you.
As this is in your budget can we have £400k just once in May ?
You’ll cement our community club’s existence for 100 years. ⚫️⚪️⚫️⚪️⚫️⚪️⚫️
Let us know, cheers.
From,
To all that have come out today, to the
@Emley_AFC
fans and to
@BarnsleyFC
for invaluable mentions:
Thank you. Today’s record attendance of 825 is absolutely incredible for the ninth tier. 👏

Some great news to start the weekend.
5 months ago
@88kryan
suffered a really bad back injury at Barton Town where he was hospitalised for a week. Due to hard work and physio rehab, he's back and raring to go!
It'll be great to see him back in the Black and White!
#UpTheChurch
Everyone at
@pcfc1906
sends their thought and condolences to the family & friends of Steve Reid who passed away yesterday.
Steve, ex PE teacher at
@PGSALC
and a stalwart of
@PenistoneCC
,will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.
Sadly sometimes we’re reminded how precious life is.
Today the thoughts of everyone at Penistone Church FC go to full back
@jammy81818
, who sadly in the last few days lost his mum after bravely battling cancer.
We’re all thinking of you Jammy.

We’re delighted to have taken the opportunity to sign ex-Barnsley keeper
@jakegreatorex1
Jake, who was on Barnsley’s books last year, has one appearance for us already when we he played vs
@HarrogateTown
in the
@fa
Cup three years ago.
Welcome to Penistone Jake.
#SquadGame
We’d also like to share a massive thank you from the club and from Owen Haslam who raised a magnificent £865.22 yesterday.
A brilliant response again from the fans and community.
@_hazzy
We should have done this before KO yesterday, but we weren’t organised enough !
A mini milestone as
@ash_ellis90
and Brett Lovell both played in their 275th game for Church yesterday.
Both lads have given tremendous service to the club, managers and fans alike.
Well done lads.
Wow, another great night of football.another win pie Penistone but
@AthersleyRec
never gave up. 214 spectators saw a goal fest 8-3 final score, and thanks to
@BarnsleyFC
legend Malcolm Shotton for presenting the trophy
We’ve been asked to share that
@MaidlEric
had a comfortable night and a load of sleep in hospital following him collapsing yesterday.
He’ll be staying in for a little while to be looked after and under general observations.
We know that he’ll know we’re all thinking of him.
⚽️ Manager Update ⚽️
We’re delighted to confirm that Ian Richards
@teddyrich
will continue his reign & take us into next season.
Ian, as ambitious as ever, will share some words of his own soon, but we couldn’t be in better hands.
More updates in coming days.
#UpTheChurch

Everyone wishes them the best of luck.
Everyone Penistone Church send their best wishes to Frank Fleming who plays for our Under 12 Black’s, who today sadly dislocated his knee cap.
He’s been to two hospitals today & he’s back again later this week.
Frank & his family have the clubs full support.

Update on

@davehampshire2
Kie has got severe bruising and inflammation around the sciatic nerve, thankfully no broken bones or any dislocation. He is still in lots of pain and still can’t sit up. As soon as he is able to move he’ll be discharged and heading home.
Happy Birthday to Mr. Penistone Church who is away on hols this week celebrating his 65th birthday.
We all hope
@davehampshire2

Yet another another taken far too soon.

RIP Matthew Mather.
Well done Mr Penistone himself
@davehampshire2
👏👏👏👏👏
Without Dave quite a few years back, we wouldn't have the wonderful community club that we have now
Congratulations to the
@nickfirthtiles
Man of the Match Brett Lovell.
Commanding at the back, two trademark goals and an assist that Messi would be proud of.
We’d like to thank the German branch of the
@BarnsleyFC
supporters who game to our game today. Also to the
@LutonTown
fans and the lads from
@ManCity
who all came along. Whilst we pride ourselves as a community club, it was great to see you all. See you soon ?
#NonLeagueDay2018
We wish
@Richo_1979
all the very best in his new role.
We know he’s made a very tough decision in leaving us but we always knew his ambition was there and as an ex Stocksbridge player the lure to go back there could be too strong.
Good luck Ian.

Today we host Matt Mather’s family in the ViP Suite.
Sadly Matt, who was a great supporter of the club and known to many of us, passed away some time back in the middle of the pandemic.
We hope your enjoy the day and evening with us.
We’d not be where we are today without club captain
@HowesDanny
What a player and what a leader on and off the pitch.
Welcome to the ‘300 Club’ Danny, no one deserves this any more than you do.
As a mark of the award the league have agreed a three match break !
#WhatAPlayer
Great result last night and good to welcome the

Another cracking atmosphere at the club. Let's do it all again Saturday night!!

How can football make one decision yet Cricket & Rugby League make a completely different one ?
Whilst all following the same DCMS advice !
There’s no right or wrong here, but it seems madness we don’t play football yet only 200 metres down the road they’ll be playing cricket !
We’re delighted (as is he) to have re-signed
@ElliottFirth91
Elliott has been on a mini short football sabbatical - but Brett and
@LenthallStephen
managed to track him down and the ink has dried in time for him to be involved tomorrow.
We wish all the very best to
@_tcharlesworth2
He’s taken the opportunity to leave & play a step level above with
@parksteelsfc
which no one can deny him.
TC - you’re a top lad & have a top family. We wish you all the very best for the future and no doubt we’ll see you soon !
The lads are up early and have now set off on their Three Peaks Challenge for
@BluebellWoodCH

On behalf of the club we’ve made the brave decision to release the following statement on the current footballing climate.
It’s not been an easy decision but one we could not hold our silence on anymore.
“VAR is killing the game!”
The club will make no further comment UFN.
Our thoughts are with Secretary
@davehampshire2
and his family.
Dave’s wife Sandra’s mum sadly passed away at the weekend after illness whilst at the same time his own dad is very poorly.
Best wishes from us all at the club go to Dave and all of the family who we all know well.
