today would have been my mum’s 58th birthday had she not died almost nine months ago. Thank you @BathMagg for finding a home for this poem. Please go and check out the whole of issue 12 and the incredible company I’m in.

this is such a rich and gorgeously written extract. Retaining personality and warmth whilst still being an excellent bit of research. So excited for this book.

Today’s @gdnlongread is about the Black gay social and party scene which thrived in London in the 1980s and 90s. It’s an extract from my book Revolutionary Acts, featuring stories of house parties, night clubs and Black and Beautiful Escorts.

I think in many cases women who identify as masc rather than Butch are right to do so - Butch isn't just an aesthetic but a particular role, a responsibility, in relationships, community, with Femmes and other Butches - it has a rich past and present. Masc isn't those things. BUT

I wonder how many blocks are in the way of women who hold onto being masc, never move from there. How many Lesbians never reach Butch because of shame, deep lesbophobia (in heterosexual and 'queer' communities), misogyny.

Male violence against women is an epidemic. A fucking plague. But when will you all reckon with yourself and be truthful about the fact you see suffering as part and parcel of being female?

not a word from those who spend the majority of their time online preaching about how ~radical~ they are, how they want to fight systemic violence, how much they abhor bigotry, how they want a kinder, better, fairer world.

I am sick to death of the ways that most people reveal themselves to believe women are natural victims. How they do not flinch when we are raped, murdered, abused, when we go missing. Because that is the order of things. It's what has always and will always happen.

in the space of 24 hours a man known to police for violent/sexual crimes against women broke into a woman's house with a crossbow, and another male sex offender threw acid all over a woman and two children. And yet

I am tired and horrified by the fact that most people do not see misogyny as something worth organising against, worth fighting. You've turned up outside Downing St before for much less.

How many women must be raped and murdered, globally, before you begin to care? How many times must violence against women be used as a weapon of war, celebrated in popular culture, happen at home, in schools, by the police, protected by the state(s) before you care?

As a Femme, I have seen it first hand. Met women who knew who they were, but not how to be that way, not sure that they could, or should. Thinking a lot about how each time I see a proud Butch I become surer and more proud of myself as a Femme, and how I know it works both ways.
