I’ve spent 10 years of my life writing and learning about YouTube.
I'm a senior scriptwriter at Deus Media Group, a content strategist for 5 channels and a faceless channel owner with over 7 million views to my name.
But, I don't want to keep all of this knowledge to myself.
YouTube Content Strategy Case Study: Value Proposition
For an animation channel, I ideated and wrote the script for a video that managed to be an outlier in the English, Spanish and Russian channels of the brand.
Same video, totally different audiences.
This means one thing:
YouTube Content Strategy Case Study: experimental content.
For one client's channel, I decided to change the angle of a video from the working 70% entertainment and 30% education formula to 70% education and 30% entertainment.
The purpose was to see if we could find a new
I couldn't get past 7/10 for 4 consecutive uploads in a channel I'm doing content strategy for.
I felt awful, but it motivated me to pour my soul into the next video.
I wrote the script myself, ideated for hours and even had review (roast) sessions with other youtube experts.
YouTube Scriptwriting 101 - Retention basics
Clip theory: the ability to choose curiosity-evoking clips that move a video's story forward.
Transition theory: the ability to smoothly link two parts of a video by delivering a payoff and introducing at least one new curiosity

YouTube's Railroad Theorem:
- The expectations set on the viewer by the packaging of your video ( title + thumbnail) can be visualized as a railroad 'track' that your content should follow.
- if your content deviates from the track of expectations, even with a good idea and
Knowing how to write documentaries on YouTube is like having a master-degrees at YT Scriptwriting.
Not only do you have to be able to know about the basics of YouTube (retention, curiosity gaps, pay-offs)
But, you also have to be an artist.
What is the viewer seeing,
We are cooking up a Netflix-like documentary. Will still take a month to finalize but once it's out, the YouTube documentary niche will never be the same.
Here is my
#1
piece of advice if you want to succeed at YouTube Scriptwriting
If you are pursuing this path just because it seems like an accessible way of making money online, you are wasting your time.
You can’t do this just for the money. Not only do you have to love
Exactly 1 year ago, my life took a turn.
I had dropped out of college and told myself that I would be a delivery rider until I could make a living online.
After failing at trading, I decided to try YouTube again after 4 years.
6 days later, my silly video started going viral
"Why bother writing or paying for a YouTube script if you can just find a way of making it with AI"
Actually, this has had the opposite effect on the market.
Scriptwriters who are truly passionate about writing and understand YouTube have become much more valuable.
Yes, you
@AprilynneAlter
First year working online and everyone around me works 9-5 jobs. It's like we can't understand eachother.
I'm meeting a lot of great people online though
I couldn't get past 7/10 for 4 consecutive uploads in a channel I'm doing content strategy for.
I felt awful, but it motivated me to pour my soul into the next video.
I wrote the script myself, ideated for hours and even had review (roast) sessions with other youtube experts.
In the case of this video, it was explaining a difficult concept in a way that no-one else on YouTube had done before,
And how did I do that?
By thinking about how I would teach that thing to my younger self.
If you do that, you'll be authentic by default.
Since December, I have been grinding here in Peru.
Working and Improving my yt skills to one day be at the top of this industry.
There is still a long way to go but I can safely say that I've accomplished my childhood dream of making a living out of YouTube.
Never give up 💪
When I moved from Peru to Europe, I promised myself that I wouldn't go back empty-handed
Now that I had something, I finally felt like I could go back home.
So I bought my plane ticket for €600 and was left with €200 to my name in November of 2023.
In conclusion, make your video unique by doing an analysis of its competitors and making sure nobody else has done that idea.
Then, once you have that, execute it in a way that is good for yourself
Eventually, you will acquire TASTE but that's for a future thread :)
Hey
@GeorgeBlackman_
I'm a big fan of your work! I was just wondering what are your thoughts on Chad Hurley's new startup.
Do you think Eyetell will be a tool for youtube scriptwriters or could it potentially displace us?
Thank you!
Even though the videos were flopping, I was learning a lot about YouTube.
I knew that by improving in every single video, I would have a more attractive portfolio to join a team.
If I ran out of money, I would do deliveries again and keep trying.
The weather was better there
Want to make 2024 the year you smash it on YouTube?
🎉Announcement: We’re opening up applications and looking for 50 YouTube creators to join my January Accelerator cohort!
Here's the quick rundown on why it's such a game changer for channels:
- 8 weeks with 3 live sessions
Fortunately, I started receiving encouraging DMs from some youtube entrepreneurs here on X.
I didn't have a great portfolio but, instead, a strong conviction and a story to tell.
@oligilpin
interviewed me and gave me an opportunity in his business
I'm extremely grateful.
Long story short, I couldn't monetize Modern Greats due to reused content but it opened my eyes to the creator economy.
I started binge-listening to all the

podcasts during my shifts and I couldn't believe what I was hearing...
As the video went viral, I felt true meaning for the first time in years.
It felt exactly like when I used to get some views on the faceless channels I created during my teens
YT had always been my dream, but I was told that I had to go to uni
I was finally free from that.
It was the craziest day of my life. In the middle of my 8-hour shift, the video had suddenly gone from 300 to 363K views.
I was losing it. It was my first win after years of disappointment.
It felt like the start of something huge... and I wasn't wrong.
I also couldn't find a room in an apartment and was forced to stay at a good friend's place in Madrid for 3 weeks.
By the time I was back in Barcelona, I only had three months left of savings before I couldn't pay for rent or food.
Despite my situation, I had a plan.
Exactly 2 months ago, I created my latest
#Youtube
Automation channel.
The very first video went viral after 5 days and now has 2.7M views.
Since then, I've obsessively been studying its niche and how to maximize long-term profits through AdSense and Audience Leveraging.
⏳
I worked as a delivery guy for 2 years before YouTube Automation.
it was tough; the cold and rainy Dutch weather made me experience true hell, but it also gave me a strong conviction.
Once you've hit rock bottom, you're invincible. 💪
Just to clarify one point, I should have said that we should always think about a UNIQUE & AUTHENTIC way of manifesting a given value proposition in a video.
The word 'exact' was a mistake.
Uniqueness and authenticity is the key.
I had idealized my life in Barcelona.
I thought I would just go there and start making lots of money.
The reality was the opposite.
My Airbnb was a shithole and it was so hot that I could barely do any work.
The videos were flopping bad and I was running out of money
After 5 months of listening to podcasts at work and editing during all of my free time, it was time to go.
I had saved €4K and desperately needed a change.
I decided to move to Barcelona to put myself under pressure.
I had to either monetize my channel or get a
@yt_jobs
Are you telling me that YouTube channels work as businesses and that there is now an entire industry behind them?
It was a no-brainer.
I knew it was just a matter of time until success came my way....
@timmehirl
Thank you for your comment Timmie! It means a lot!
I'm sure you'll be one of the best YouTubers one day, your dedication is unmatched and you have your whole life ahead of you.
Keep it up💪
This was my first Jiu-Jitsu submission ever with only 1 month of training back in January. So glad I got it on tape.
My goal is to someday become a black belt and to keep training for as long as possible.
Hereby, I convey my resolve.
I'm all in for this journey.
Ossu!
@gilhildebrand
Thanks for the reply man! Yeah, I think Subscribr is going to be a great tool to solve the huge problem you mentioned.
I really hope that it is a success and I'll be happy to try it once it comes out. I'll also see if it can help me reduce the time I spend per script!

@PaddyG96
Do you sometimes feel overwhelmed or is your work so meaningful to you that time just flies?
I've just started as a yt entrepreneur and I find myself working 12h+ a day.
I love it so much that time just flies, I was wondering if it was the same for you after so many years⏳️
@GeorgeBlackman_
Can't wait to see how your new endeavor develops, I'm so glad you are going to solve one of the biggest problems in the youtube industry! I'm sure this is the right choice for you 📈📈
@devoncnp
Spot on. I was a groceries delivery driver for 2 years in the Netherlands before I managed to make a living out of Youtube.
After that experience, advancing in my yt career simply feels like a way easier task no matter how high the workload gets.
Contrast is everything.
@RafaelT85920177
Gracias!! Si, siempre he querido comenzar una comunidad para los de habla hispana pero es difícil encontrar gente todavía
Un gustazo bro!
@theficouple
@noahkagan
Oh man your story inspired me. I moved from Perú to the Netherlands at 20 yrs old and have been working 2 years as a delivery driver.
Every single shift I've been listening to educational podcasts for more than 4h a day, 5 times a week.
I'm now starting my own business🤞
@gilhildebrand
Thanks for your comment bro. Actually not, since the video took 3 months to blow up, we pivoted to entrainment again and we got a couple of 1/10s in this time. So, it's hard to pivot back again to more education but we'll definitely try it again in the future!
