@thelimeofdoom They are called altricial and precocial birds! Precocial birds (the fluffy cute ones on the left) are able to walk and function independently very soon after hatching. Altricial birds (right) aren't able to do that and need their parents to take care of them.

Today’s #NationalBirdWeek star come from our partners at @BonorongTAS . This tiny Tawny Frogmouth chick arrived at the Wildlife Hospital at only a few days old and needed some expert care to prepare for adulthood without his parents.
