As the number of Palestinians murdered by Israel surpasses 10,000 & as Israel continues to commit war crimes and bomb hospitals, universities and ambulances, today the Vic gov shows their solidarity with Israel.
Disgusting.
@JacintaAllanMP
you are complicit in this genocide.
Those who ask us to focus on October 7 are not asking us to remember, rather they are asking us to forget everything that has happened since October 7 and since 1948 - Prof Tony Birch
Incredibly concerning to learn that

As the zionist state of israel continues its relentless bombardment of Gaza,

Q: You thought your comfort would be sufficient to meet his need & request for comfort from his family?
A:...The option of allowing his family into the station never passed my mind. In lieu of that, all I did, was provide him the highest level of comfort that I could provide.

A NSW parliamentary inquiry has just announced that it recommends that coercive control be criminalised. The recommendation is unanimous.
The report has just been published online:
There is a culture in criminology where criminologists would prefer to remain silent in the name of "collegiality" than speak out about the poor academic rigour of research that perpetuates racism
#abolishcriminology
This is horrific.
Please get down to the coroner's court this week and show your support for Josh's family. Court resumes at 10am today, or you can jump online here.
#JusticeForJoshKerr
Heard today that ten screws and medical staff waited around watching Josh Kerr lay unresponsive in his cell before people opened it. The tactical operations group screw described Josh as “cold to the touch” by the time he went in.
Seeing more and more that white liberal scholars are co-opting the language of abolition in the academy without any political commitment to abolitionist praxis. Any recommendations for folks who have written about this?
For non-First Nations folks who watched
#IncarcerationNation
last night and are wondering what to do next, below are links to campaigns, fundraisers and organisations leading the resistance against continued state-sanctioned brutality that you can support
Also fyi criminologists, it’s incredibly violent to frame the relationship between VicPol and Aboriginal people as “unfriendly”. This isn’t an interpersonal conflict, its state sanctioned violence. This discipline is honestly making me sick
#AbolishCriminology
Incredibly fucked up to hear yesterday that prior to killing Kumanjayi Walker, Rolfe was using his personal phone to contact weaponry suppliers to buy accessories for the guns used by Northern Territory police.
#JusticeForWalker
Counsel Assisting reads out a text msg sent by Rolfe - “you probably know… I'm a cop in Australia where we work. We carry Glock 22s. I was looking at a particular vortex red dot sight on it...”
Q: Who was that text to?
A: I guess a supplier or tactical professional.
Listening to white academics justify the importance of maintaining their “friendships” with VicPol one minute and claiming they are abolitionists the next minute is honestly so cringe

Counsel for NT Police: And was it that form of spontaneous, vengeful retribution that you were fearful about taking place on the evening of 9/10 November?
Nobbs: My predominant concern, yes, that was looming very large in my mind at the time

I resonate deeply with the stories of these Aboriginal scholars. The University of Melbourne has repeatedly made me feel like a problem. The racism of this place often feels inescapable. I’m relieved to see these stories finally come to the surface.

This is so incredibly fucked up.
#JusticeForWalker
Q: When you suggested in the interview with Mrs Shorten that the family were to some extent responsible, was [that] justified?
Rolfe: The responsibility I was placing on them was the fact that they did not tell us & I know this is incredibly hard time for the family to hear...

Thinking of Trawoolaway scholar Prof Maggie Walter's work on Data Politics and Indigenous representation in Aus statistics - "the question is not just 'are these numbers real', but also 'how are these numbers deployed and who do they serve'."
“We are here today because it’s time to voice what is happening and has happened to us. We are breaking the silence. The silence that was enforced upon Wayne and continues to be enforced against us and upon us. We must ban the hooding – the silence.”

Rolfe's legal counsel have just put forth that Rolfe should not have to answer any questions about 9 Nov 2019 - the day he shot and killed Kumanjayi Walker.

#JusticeForWalker
Abbott KC objects to Rolfe answering any questions about 9 Nov 2019 (the day that Kumanjayi Walker was killed) under s38 of the Coroner’s Act, on the basis that answers could incriminate him, and potential 'derivative' use of answers in other proceedings.
