What's your ideal ham and cheese sandwich? Are you a regular bread, ham and cheese person or do you like more, such as pickles, lettuce, and tomatoes? Also, butter or mayo; Sourdough, soda bread or slice pan? And what type of cheese?

Due to the continual threat of fake bookings from people who disagree with the government's new regulations regarding vaccination for indoor dining, we are asking for credit card details for all booking across the three restaurants. Apologies for any inconvenience. ❤️
This morning I started work at 9am. It's now 11.40 and I'm just finished. Remember when you eat food in independent restaurants in Ireland, people are working constantly to make sure you have a good time. Be kind. 🙏❤️
I won't lie to you. The last three years has me broken. From crisis to crisis. The next 6 months will define Irish food for the next 5/10 years. From farmers to suppliers, from chefs to producers. We're ar breaking point. Support your local farmer. Support your local restaurant.
Last night a group of people from Texas dined
@cavagalway
. We have no way of knowing if they just arrived and should be self-quarantining. Staff very uncomfortable. We need a decision on this particularly if people are coming from places with high cases.
From this weekend, a credit card will be required to book any table
@cavagalway
and
@tartaregalway
. Failure to cancel will result in a charge. This comes after a total of 15 people cancelled very late on Saturday. With 40% less seats and few walk in, we cannot absorb this. ❤️
It is with sadness that we must announce that we are closing our beautiful
@tartaregalway
on 4th September. We are very proud of what we achieved over the past 5 years. We want to thank our customers and our loyal regulars. And most importantly we want to thank our staff. ❤️
When you walk in a restaurant at 9.10 in Dublin and the waiter looks at their watch you feel really welcome. When they tell you they're about to close but you can sit, it makes you feel like they don't want your money. When they turn up the lights when you and others are sitting…
I would rather live with a refugee than the people who set this fire going. We have very short memories. Only forty years ago we were leaving for other countries. Absolutely disgusting.

It is with great sadness that we announce
@aniargalway
will not open this season. We're going to focus instead on online cooking classes for the remainder of the summer and then do our usual cooking classes in the winter. Hopefully see you April 2021 for a better season. ❤️
Is it too difficult to understand that Ireland and Spain have very different: wages, taxation, rent, etc. What is the point of this post? To demonstrate one can eat cheaper in Spain than in Ireland? It's that obvious to anyone who has travelled there. The price of a meal in Spain…
Dinner for seven, including a bottle of white wine and two beers in Nerja, Spain at a beachfront restaurant on the August Bank Holiday weekend - €87.75 😎 it was good too!
If you run a coffee shop, make sure your take-away cups are compostable. Most are not. We use compostable cups
@tartaregalway
I will happily pass on supplier. We need to change our attitude towards our coffee culture.
Imagine a landlord refusing to renew a lease after 10 years in the middle of a pandemic unless they can put rent up by €6,000. You can stop imagining....
I'm supporting

Over 45% of food consumed in Ireland is "ultra-processed", which leads to diabetes and obesity. If you want to fix our Health system, let's begin with our Education system. We need a mandatory food subject in primary school
@RichardbrutonTD
@campaignforleo
Why do the Irish government want us to keep records of what people are eating and drinking? What has this got to do with
#Covid_19
? Contract tracing, yes. Recording what people eat and drink, no. We are at breaking point. Absolute madness.
The food at nearly all Irish service stations is appalling. Generic, ultra processed or international fast food. Does anyone know any service or petrol stations around the country that are doing good simple food? It's depressing to see so many queuing for McDonald's 😭
Very depressed today. Just putting it out there. If only just to get it out of my head. Tomorrow will be brighter, better. That's all we can hope for 🙏
This is disgraceful. False labelling designed to trick the customer. This is Danish bacon, not Irish. We need to change Irish labelling laws. What's the point of promoting Irish food when you can have an Irish flag on food that is not a product of Ireland.
#thisisnotIrishfood
Can we please stop the blame game regarding restaurants, pubs and cafés overcharging. Running a small business in Ireland is hard enough. Why do the Irish always think they're getting ripped off? Government take nearly 43% on a bottle wine. It's taxed like petrol. Wages in…
Our newly designed compostable cups are available from
@tartaregalway
Our cups can be put into the food waste brown bin and take 6 to 12 weeks to break down into the soil.
With billions of take away cups going to landfill every year
Let's make a difference in 2018!
Congratulations to all our staff
@AniarGalway
for retaining our

Tired of the government. Tired of waiting. Mentally exhausted. Living in limbo. What else can I do? At times, I feel like leaving hospitality, then I check myself & say it will be fine. Then I'm down again wanting to get out. Not enough staff to open. Not enough clarity to move.
Yesterday, we closed
@aniargalway
for our winter break. We will be closed for five weeks until February 9th. Then, we will open Aniar 2.0 with a brand new kitchen by
@SmarterCatering
and a brand new dining room designed by Marmar architects. We have just signed another 10 year…
I would like to thank our landlord who met us half way in terms of rent. We are all in this together only when we take mutual responsibility. Have a good day ❤️
I don't have any more faith in Government or NPHET. They just keep changing everything. 6 weeks at level 5? I don't believe it. Last lockdown lasted over 12 weeks. We had 6 months to prepare for this. We're back at the beginning. This is not living with Covid. This is hiding.
Anyone know any Irish hospital willing to try and change their patient food offering for the better? In terms of its provenance, nutrition and food story. It will possiblly be part of a 4-6 part TV series filmed next year. Please RT.
So this is Dominic street this morning. This was our only seating area. Now
@GalwayCityCo
have left two huge concrete slabs in it. No dialogue. No imagination. We had space for 8 seats, now we may have 4. So angry 😡 we can't even put our our wind breakers.
The closure of the Galway market this afternoon because of Social distancing is ridiculous. Every shop and supermarket I have been has had people too close together. And the market is outside.... 🤔 Are the guards going to inspect every Tesco next and shut it down?
The more I hear about EHO officers asking restaurants and cafés to buy in prepared food the more my blood boils. We're trying to build a food culture, not a industrial feeding system.
If your EHO officer asks you to do something that you don't feel sure about ask to see…
Chronically depressed today. Some days it just happens. I know tomorrow it will be better. Ride the wave. Shout out to anyone feeling this way. It'll be ok. Hope is all we have. ❤️
Would it make any sense just to stop testing everyone and just allow those who are sick to go to hospital? Would it make any difference? Businesses closing all around me. Honest question.

We received our new plaque last week but I've been so busy with other things that I didn't get a chance to post about it. Of course, this award means so much to us. This is our 10th year of maintaining the

With the increase of minimum wage in January by €1.40 I hope people understand that this is going to make everything more expensive. This is not a judgement on the minimum wage but a reality that the only way a restaurant makes money is selling food and wine. Perhaps people can…
Unfortunately we're going to have start taking credit card details for
@cavagalway
on Saturday. 5 no shows tonight who now won't answer their phones. We had a waiting list as well. All you do is deny the table to someone else.
If we had less restaurants in Ireland buying their vegetables and other supplies in Tesco and other supermarkets, we'd have a better local food system. Support local farmers and small producers and pay a fair price.
It's becoming more and more difficult to run a small independent business in Ireland. Constant increases. Soon our streets will look like the UK: only chains and multinationals. The future is grim for good food in Ireland.
It's a sad day for the hospitality industry but tomorrow will be even sadder. Who knows when we will be allowed to reopen? Where do we go now? What to do? Do we just call it a day until September and at least give ourselves certainty. There is no leadership from this government.
The mood is definitely shifting: ministerial, political and administrative sources now all says a delay to the July 5 indoor reopening is more likely than not.

Good news
#theIrishcookBook
has sold over 10,000 copies since it's publication at the end of February. 6 difficult months for our restaurants, 6 glorious months for Irish food internationally ❤️
Is it really possible the someone doesn't know restaurants are closed? We just had someone try and book
@cavagalway
for Valentine's Day and didn't believe us that we were closed! 😆
A perfect storm is coming: rising wage costs, rising food costs, rising utility costs on top of running SD restaurants until next March. Something has to break. When the government grants evaporate the bubble will burst, if it is not already happening. Take care and be kind. ❤️
Saving the planet & getting money back - Danish style. All Danish supermarkets have these machines - which you load up with empty cans, bottles of all kinds, in return for cash, paid out in a receipt that can be used or cashed in the store. Approx 20p a bottle/can. Works well
So I go to bed wondering whether our restaurants will be open for Christmas and if our 50 staff will have jobs. 5pm closing will close
@AniarGalway
and
@cavagalway
Thanks
#NPHET
for the leaks. Happy Christmas to you too 😭
We will ask all future international bookings for entry date into country until government have their list of countries you don't have to quarantine from.
Can the Irish media get behind the hospitality industry and start asking the hard questions that expose the inconsistent and unclear rules that are being asked of our industry? Or at least half our industry, as hotels can serve indoors.
I will absolutely not advocate for restaurants to open until case numbers are low and vaccination is well progressed. That doesn't mean I cannot critique the absence of government plan, the problem with vaccine rollout, the way science is being used to create a certain narrative.
Disappointed with the uneducated bias on
#whatplanetareyouon
how can almond milk and avocados be more sustainable than Irish dairy? They cause untold damage.
No consideration of food as a culture experience either. We're just beginning to understand our food culture

1 in 4 Irish children are obese. While I welcome a sugar tax from the government, it doesn't deal with root problem of lack of food education. Sugar is not fundamentally bad. It's the way we use it and consume it
#foodeducation
As we wait for possibly another month for outside dining to begin, petrol stations have up to 12 seats outside with tables. This is not a criticism of the petrol stations, just an observation regarding the irregular and arbitrary nature of the ban on outside dining.
What was good about 2020?
1. My Cook book was published
2. I spent more time with my kids
3. I started painting
4. I got a dog
5. I had a better work/life balance
Who's next?
When depression sets in, it takes you by the throat, it holds you down, takes your confidence, your ability, makes you feel worthless, an imposter at best, ostracizes you from your community, it wants you to just disappear, go away

It seems there are no good wine bars outside Dublin. A pity really. I can think of a few off the top of my head. How paltry an experience we must have outside Dublin. How poor we are to have to look constantly towards our nation's capital for inspiration! Alas! ❤️ Poor Yorick!
Support Irish vegetables farmers this Christmas! In fact, support them all year round. We need more vegetable farmers in Ireland growing a diverse range of foods.

I've never seen so little care given to the restaurant industry by political parties. We have a staff of 45 and buy 90% of our food from local producers. Not one politician has answered me. What are you going to do to help our industry?

Honest question from a provaxxer: if you can catch and spread Covid even if you're double vaccinated with booster, what's the purpose of the Covid cert? All our staff with Covid our double vaccinated.
It now appears to be redundant. Masks and ventilation the way forward I feel.
To be honest, if the government wanted to make a difference to Covid numbers, they would have closed the off licenses at 8pm and left restaurants alone. Ridiculous queues for booze in Galway. This is helping no one.
If this is going to be the state of play as we head into the summer, the government need to reassess their opening strategy. Otherwise, we'll never get open. A pub, restaurant or hotel is a regulated space.
#Salthill
Dear all, thanks for your comments and advice. After talking to our solicitor it appears we cannot be kicked out (because we are in building more than 5 years) and rent cannot go above market value, which arbitration will decide. Happy days 😘
I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade. I just left and went to another place for a glass of wine and a cheese board. Either you want to welcome people or you don't. That's what it comes down to.
Astonishing to hear that off the 140,000 people who arrived in Ireland since December, 49% didn't fill out an address on location form. There is no sense of urgency from this government to get this virus under control. We cannot wait around until June and hope we'll be open.
Let it never be said there wasn't a Michelin star ⭐ in Cong. Last night we cooked for 10 people at a wedding. A 14 course tasting menu with wine pairing. It was Aniar but not as we previously knew it. See you all next year

I don't understand why restaurants in Dublin feel the need to use Himalayan pink salt?
@achillseasalt
is far superior and probably the best flaked sea salt in Ireland. Is it snobbery or ignorance?
