PLEASE I AM BEGGING YOU FOR MORE MIDDLE GRADE SPORTS BOOKS WITH GIRLS PLAYING SPORTS. I'm begging here. WNBA! SOFTBALL! VOLLEYBALL! This is a huge untapped market. We got a bunch of soccer books for a bit, a few gymnastics but. There's room for so much more.
One of our "I hate books and reading and I am bad at it" students just devoured the Diana Taursai book from SHE PERSISTED and was like "OK now I want 15 more just like that." The market is there.

Yes!!! Sorry to self-promote, but I have a girls hockey MG out next year (it’s also a romance!) and I’m soooo here for more MG girls in sports! 🙌🏻 Hope to see more soon!

Angela Ahn has 2 MG sports books out 2024/5 (swimming+martial arts)
Anecdotally, first kids' creative writing class I taught had a 5th grade girl obsessed w/ basketball. Wrote about it in every story, drew anthropo BBall, thanked the sport in her acknowledgements, it was great😂

This week alone I had one set of girls asking for this in regards to Volleyball. And another for Girls Playing Hockey. And I could find nothing really to provide them. Definitely a hole there.

Recently read “Remember Us” by Jacqueline Woodson where the MC is the best baller in the neighborhood. It’s more than sports, but I loved the way her male best friend gassed her up all the time.

My daughter has been rock climbing and obstacle course-racing competitively since she was 10, and I'd love to do some MG in that space...but I'm just not sure what stories to tell.

My middle school girls basketball book about two NCAA DI coaches' daughters came out in October!
I think because sports books are seen as perennial, they often don't get the publisher push they could benefit from in this challenging marketplace.
