I’ve just found out that
@netflix
will not be renewing
#WarriorNun
- my sincere appreciation to all the fans who worked so hard to bring awareness to this series, and for the love you showed me, the cast and the whole production team. It was a privilege to be a part of this. ❤️
Slow motion phasing was interesting. Usually it's quick and chaotic, so we had to dial it back a little to fit with the tempo of the camera. Turned out nice.
This is the Cadaver Tomb of René de Chalon, created nearly 500 years ago.
But why would somebody make something like this?
Well, it wasn't unusual. People in Europe at that time were obsessed by the macabre....
This shows off how part of this fight was on a stage, and we had to build a 3d matching rooftop to fill in the bluescreen. The artists doing the lighting, shading, and composite on this did such a great job that I'd argue no one had any idea this was a partial set.
#WarriorNun
This fight scene was pretty challenging to put together. Shot in multiple passes with a programmable camera / arm / dolly. Then segments cut out of each pass, with their shadows, and reassembled. And a few gunshots, phasing, and gore added.
It was a pleasure to contribute to the framing and style in these shots from
#WarriorNun
season 2.
The VFX of lilith's wings and the Tarasks are always fun to work with.
This show is seriously one of the best things I've worked on.
It was a real mastermind Moriarty switcheroo that
@SimonDavisBarry
pulled off. After having reviewed the source material, he was like, you know what I’m going to do with this?
Sell it to women.

An article about our work on Warrior Nin season 2. And a special clip about the big ‘Oner’ shot of Lilith at the end of episode 1. Shows a bunch more behind the scenes stuff…
#WarriorNun
Suzanne’s story is one of my fav parts of Warrior Nun season 2. She’s such a badass protecting the pope and the arc. And the flashback… It’s the only time we see a warrior nun fully confident with her powers.
#warriornun
#WarriorNunS2
And her shield was fun to create.
Ok Warrior Nun people. Let’s starting moving this crew from here, skip right over the metaverse thread garbage and land over on blue sky.
Simon’s active there too.

@WilliamMiller
Warrior Nun peeps! Here is a season 1 vfx breakdown reel of various phasing shots! Again, based on how you guys are sharing these it feels like this is new stuff for you.

The Embassy is a Vancouver studio. And Simon happens to live here too. Warrior Nun is basically a Hollywood North show that made the really smart decision to shoot in Spain with European Talent. Gives it a great look and feel.
Hey
#WarriorNun
family, thanks for all your comments/messages/questions etc.
FYI - I have no idea what’s being announced tomorrow. I am not part of the team producing the movies, and have no deal in place for any writing or directing services. I am 👀 with you.
It’s time!

Season 2 tonight!
I can’t wait to hear the reactions to the last scene of s02e01!
Let’s go!
After tomorrow I’m happy to answer questions about season 2’s VFX!
@Hainechan10
The glow from the halo always looks like wings. Since the first shot of her in season 1 blasting the mercenary possessed by the wraith in the crypt.
Based on the reaction to the general vfx reel from season 1 it seems like not all of you have seen this material? Here is a Tarask specific one as well:

A vfx specific talk we gave about Warrior Nun VFX work a few years ago for Spark CG. We get into the weeds about techniques and software but it might be interesting for some of you. It's an hour of us rambling about working on season 1.
#WarriorNun
I have a sweet hirez 3D file of a halo that looks remarkably like the one used in the opening titles of the show. I should submit it.
This non announcement just kicks the can down the road… but if we need a new halo design….
@BeAvaSilva
@SimonDavisBarry

@TonteriYoung
We made the titles and I’m not even sure. I think we had access to both the production artwork for the show, and a pre production “style guide” of stuff that we were trying ideas from. Might have been from there.

This apparent with negative reviews of the film tenet. You’re along for the ride with a confused protag, by the time the film wraps he finds out he’s the brains of the entire plan… it’s a joy to rewatch as you see it again through the lens of the puppet master. Brilliant.
This location was amazing. Institute of Cultural Heritage in Spain. Fantastic brutalist architecture. Was a perfect exterior for Adriel’s Cathedral.
Interior was a set.

All the flying locusts were 3D animated and rendered, including the grabbed one. They had some rubber ones to drop in the foreground on Vincent and the couple when Adriel commands them to fall. But we added a lot more as vfx.
the moment you walk through the gate and see this it takes your breath away. holy shit, this was truly such an amazing experience!

@CohoshThe
You guys have been starved for new material for a while.
So have at it!
I’m not on strike.
And anything I might know about the future is still not mine to share.
But I’m happy to engage a little while you guys celebrate the win.
Ah, just the Warrior Nun and her Sisters 🥷

So much to unpack in this series. I think I found my fav style of writing and it's definitely
@SimonDavisBarry
's & his writers'. Apart from contrasts, the show managed to discuss sensitive topics & I'm in love with it 🥲

@czrna_xo
My eyes! That’s a terrible photoshop job of lifting the halo healing into Ava’s back element from the church morgue and combining it with post shower towel Ava trying to look at her scar.
@SimonDavisBarry
@BythrowNick
Haha. It was kinda fun to have gone ‘too far’ in that scene.
It was the crouching guys neck she snaps. We had a version where the head came clean off.
@SimonDavisBarry
I miss the weekly reviews! Let’s get something else cookin!
Ok
#WarriorNun
peeps. I’m back with another code for the blue beyond. This will be gone in about ten seconds… reply here if you need one and will use your own code powers to help drag the fandom to freedom.
@Vuelietwicerem1
This effect where Ava sacrifices herself was another great creative challenge. It was also nicely foreshadowed by her training at the start of s2 where she channeled halo blast energy into the rock near the lake.
@lazyariel
Lorena Andrea Is a great actor. She was a main cast member of Netflix’s warrior Nun, of which I was the vfx supe. An absolute badass with cheekbones that cut! She’ll make a great mermaid or whatever.
@Suha_718
Lilith’s fight at the end of 201 for overall most difficult. And second was tracking the crown to Ava in slow motion with her head falling back and then forward after Vincent puts it on her in the museum. Hard to make it stick.
Lilith’s wings reveal was such a great scene for us to work on. I love the design feeling like a pair of claws (which she gets to use for fighting with later).
The Tarask-like way they appears worked really well with how the scene was shot.

@Vuelietwicerem1
The actors all leaped back onto mats at different times so instead of a single blastwave I added a concept of these waves or multiple wavefronts so the mismatched timing feels motivated by follow on waves.
@roseonweb
Also all the mountains of “Switzerland “ in season 2 were added in by us. Including around the lake they were training at.
Shooting location had no high geography.
@beatricebadass1
@DavidBHayter
@SimonDavisBarry
I think we’re fans of the show.
And all of these love letters to the work just bring to light what an accomplishment we achieved. So that’s always cool.
It’s always great to see inspiring creativity like your edit use the show as raw material and turn it into something new.
@ufcfan4life2
Final shot of 201. Over a minute long, composed of 13 takes. With lots of gunshots, smoke, shell casings, many multiple phasings, blood, wounds, and limbs.
