Today I had three meetings. Nobody showed up prepared. One person dialed in from the car, one from the street. One said he had reviewed my product but he had not. I'm starting to think remote work has led to some bad habits... Anybody agree or disagree?

Progressives tend to blame Republicans for almost everything. Yet here we are - not a Republican in sight - and I think we may be the most deranged city on the planet. Nowhere is there such inequality. I have never seen destitution at this scale.

A disturbing crime wave hit San Francisco this week. Tech leader Bob Lee was stabbed to death, cyclist Ethan Boyes was killed by a speeding car, and former fire commissioner Don Carmignani was brutally beaten by homeless addicts. If this isn't a wake-up call, what will be?

What I have come to realize is that most people aren't actually interested in politics. They are interested in feeling good about themselves. It's a hell of a lot easier to say "billionaires shouldn't exist" than to take a look at the % of time & money they spend on charity.

Do not read this if you are easily grossed out. Last night at a party I met a woman who left San Francisco after her dog walker told her the dogs were getting addicted to meth-laced feces. Apparently they were running around the parks looking for it and then getting high.

It's hard for me to imagine showing up to an in-person meeting with such a casual attitude. I used to go into an office every day. I got up, got dressed, put on makeup, and put on my A-game. We sat in conference rooms, we conversed, we showed up prepared.

But today I feel ashamed. I feel ashamed of our values. I feel ashamed of our group think. I feel ashamed of our lack of civic engagement. I feel ashamed of the inequality. Of our wasted budget. Of the corruption, the grift & the greed.

I have a hunch it has something to do with political tribalism... Mark Twain wrote, "To lodge all power in one party and keep it there is to insure bad government and the sure and gradual deterioration of the public morals.” Is this what's happening here...?

San Francisco's primary transit system, BART, is on the brink of collapse. They just conducted a series of 1000 interviews and learned that only 17% of riders feel safe on the train. This is what happens when you don't enforce basic laws.

Can someone please explain this to me: Why is it okay for Hillary Clinton to accuse Republicans of planning to steal an election, while the Democrats' main critique of Republicans these days is their "stolen election" rhetoric?
