Max Richter &
@YuliaMahr
invite you to contemplate your human rights.
This Thursday, listen online or via 37+ radio stations around the world to a live performance, featuring the words of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights 📻 |
#HumanRightsDay
It takes a week to recover from a SLEEP performance, but anyone that has been to a show will know how special these occasions are. I feel a connection to the audience that's impossible to replicate at a normal concert. It's incredibly hard to perform SLEEP, but it is SO worth it.
Music rights are human rights.
I am Max Richter and I do not approve this message, nor the use of imitations of my music.

Performing SLEEP is a marathon. Normally it takes me a week to change my body clock around so that I can make it through the night. Getting through the eight hours is a zen practice really, I can’t afford to let my mind wonder or think about how many hours of playing are ahead...
The video for the first released track from my upcoming album VOICES is now live. This project has been 10 years in the making. In this time of great challenges, VOICES is a place to reflect on the world we have made, and on the world we want to make.
Join and listen in this weekend - SLEEP will be broadcast on radio stations across the world in a special programme of the 2015 live performance on

For those isolating at home and finding time to play the piano, I’m going to make some of my sheet music available for free.

I've done a lot now: 8 albums, 50 films, ballets, operas etc. Every day of this beautiful life takes my breath away - but the little boy in me can't stop smiling about this. Thank you
@DGclassics
for putting together a vinyl collection of my work.
There is no wrong way to listen to SLEEP. It is an invitation to pause and reflect on our lives. Thank you for joining us tonight for this broadcast happening around the world and thank you

&
@EBU_HQ
for helping to make this happen.
My score for Waltz with Bashir from 2008 is available once again. Ari’s film is a true masterpiece, and it was a privilege to be a part of it.

A big part of any scoring project is the process of discovering the musical language that feels like it emanates from the world of the show, like it belongs only to that world…

Thank you all so much for listening to the SLEEP broadcasts over the weekend. It’s been a special moment for me to experience the music as a listener with you as it has made its way across Europe and further afield. Wishing us all strength and patience.

SLEEP is a very tightly structured piece - everything is notated in the score. To the listener it should sound repetitive and cyclical, but actually there are countless variations and shifting details ...
Spotify tells me that my followers are adventurers...
Thank you to the more than 17 million of you who listened to my music on

this year, and the 95,778 who made me your number 1.
Here's to many more adventures in 2023.

I wrote VOICES for what I call a ‘negative orchestra’, made up primarily of basses and cellos. This comes out of my feeling that our world has been turned upside-down. I wanted to see if I could make hopeful music out of these dark materials. Out July 31st
It is wonderful for me to be able to share the film for On The Nature of Daylight with you, featuring a magical performance from the extraordinary Elisabeth Moss. -m
In SLEEP I used a very specific frequency spectrum, made up almost exclusively of very low frequencies to evoke a sense of origins. This spectrum has this effect on us because it is the same as the unborn baby hears in the womb. SLEEP lets us revisit it for a moment.
Retweet if you'll be tuning in to hear the global radio broadcast of Max Richter's VOICES on

I’m so sad to hear of the passing of Ennio Morricone, a wonderful composer and a thoughtful and charming man. Morricone’s film scores elevated and transcended the genre. Rest in Peace Maestro.
Over the 10 years of working on VOICES, Mercy has always been a sort of pole star, guiding the rest of the piece.
@yuliamahr
's beautiful film places the question of mercy and compassion firmly into our everyday world. We are all in this together.
For the last hour the spectrum opens upward, including more and more high frequencies, so there is a kind of sunrise in the music. There are more than 250 pages in the score for SLEEP, and when we get towards the last few, after 8 hours of playing, the feeling is indescribable.
