One thing always gives me joy working at the record store is seeing the actual origin of a record collector/music fan. A teenage girl & her father were in the store today & she left with a turntable & two new LPs & she couldn't have hid her excitement even if she tried.

I buried my baby yesterday. I’m still pretty shocked by it. I know everybody thinks their pets are the best but Bird truly was one of kind. He had as much energy the other day as he’s always had & he’s gone now. He was so smart & mischievous & just the sweetest guy. I’m gutted

Dedicated 30 years to music. Writing, recording, touring, releasing records, buying/selling in record stores etc…I’ve never felt more disappointed in all aspects of it. I’m really feeling the effects of putting too many eggs in one basket & some people have really let me down

one trend at the record store this year that's curious to me is that we're selling TONS of jazz records. more than i can ever remember. modern stuff on labels like @intlanthem but the classic stuff just blows out of here. And not just the slam-dunks like Miles & Coltrane...

my band hurl was recording with bob weston back in 97. while he was setting up he asked us if we wanted to hear the new fugazi which we very much did because it wasn't out yet. it was the first fugazi album i heard early. i still remember being so shocked when the vocals came in

Mike Watt was the first "famous" person from a band that I met. I was 14 or so & LOVED firehose. I went to to see them at Electric Banana in Pittsburgh early with some friends hoping I could meet him. He was playing pool & he couldn't have been nicer to us scrawny little nerds

Took a month off from music because I hated what I was writing. Felt bad about it some but also knew I needed it. Turned on my 4 track the other day & found a mostly finished song with a blown-out track. Re-recorded that quickly & it’s my favorite song I’ve made in a long time

The power of OG Blue Note pressings. You can feel this mark easily but can only hear it quietly here & there WITH headphones, through speakers in a room it’s barely noticeable. I have some OGs that look like they were skipped down a road & they sound fine @bluenoterecords

Joy Division "Closer" probably sells about 1/5 of what "Unknown Pleasures" does at the record store. To me those always seemed like records that you had to own both of. Being a Joy Division completist doesn't require owning a lot of records

Found some old tape covers for R.E.M. bootlegs that I made in high school. A Friday night back then would often consist of me spending hours at Kinkos making stuff like this. Can’t remember all of the sources but I know I cut up the old family encyclopedias for some of it @remhq

in the early '00s I played synth on a few songs for Dianogah on some shows in the midwest with Silkworm. I can't remember what synth it was but it had a slap bass sound that sounded just like the Seinfeld bass & I kept doing it at soundcheck until they yelled at me & made me stop

I was mostly indifferent to the white stripes for years but then I played the same stage as them at primavera & was able to watch from the side. the chemistry that jack & meg had was unbelievable. there was a mic set up in front of meg's drums and jack would sing facing her...

when i moved to chicago i couldn't believe that i'd see a member of the psychedelic furs walking down the street/browsing at the record shop. turned out i'd be seeing him around a lot after playing with the 'Furs or in jazz bands. he was one of my favorite parts of that band. RIP

Pretty awesome set by The Cure tonight. The first 3/4 was pretty dark. I liked the new songs, they seemed very cinematic & morose. The encores were all pop tunes some I’d never heard them play before. They’ve been in my life for over 35 years now which blows my mind @thecure

I have a voice memo on my phone of about 1 minute of Peter Brötzmann playing on a dock at Cropped Out in 2017. I put it on sometimes & it takes me back to sitting on a hill stoned under the night sky while he transported us all, riverboats passing by. He had a wonderful tone RIP

A friend was on tour with Uzeda in the 90s. One of their kids was traveling with them & as they were driving into NYC probably through Newark or one of those very industrial zones he woke from a nap, looked out the window & said “BLADE RUNNER EVERYBODY DIES” & went back to sleep
