Caesar: Rome v Gaul is a great game that I am designing the sequel; Caesar: Rome v Rome. It will have the same core CDG mechanics with the tribes muster replaced with a Legion recruiting system plus other Civil War political systems. Cards are half done, research continues.

In 1976 I was 5m late to my last class in college and consequently spoke to a very good looking female classmate for the first time. As I look over the narrative of my life I was basically late once. The result is Claire my 4th grandchild. Being late apparently has its benefits.

Rest In Peace, Chad Jensen. I didn’t know him personally, but knew many of his games well. A fantastic designer, and from everything I’ve heard, a legitimately good person. Another, taken far too soon because of cancer. A sad day indeed. %#&@ cancer!

My girlfriend and I finished our first full campaign game of Empire of the Sun this weekend. Fierce resistance on the Japanese home islands ultimately proved too much for the Allies. What a game. Absolutely gripping from the first card to the last. @gmtgames @markherman54

This is the near final Pacific War scenario book. Justin Martinez has transformed an ugly, unfriendly, and insane 72 pages into an attractive, friendlier, yet still insane improvement over the 1985 edition. The GMT edition has several new scenarios (34 in total). Almost done.

I just finished the Pacific War scenario book. Weighs in at 79 pages with 33 stand-alone scenarios ranging from 10m to over 100 hours with most 3 hours or less. This one is now moving into final production.

I hope you are enjoying the game but as I have said more times than I can count this is an expert level game. Every low rating I have seen of this design is, “why is it so involved?” Because I’m an historian. EotS reflects my analysis of why the Pacific war was the way it was.

Reading through the extremely dense rulebook for @markherman54 's classic Empire of the Sun. A lot of these rules have me scratching my head as there are so many very specific situations that can affect movement, supply and combat. But I think this is due to 2 things...

Pacific War: Campaign scenario 4; Guadalcanal. This is how I play the game 90% of the time. Once you get a scenario you want to play for a bit you should segregate the counters and set up is significantly accelerated. As you can see this would fit on a card table.

Back home from one of the best conventions I’ve ever attended. Played four simultaneous games of Plan Orange while playing Empire of the Sun. That evening played Davis’s Divine Wind and White’s Pacific Chase. All while sitting next to a real torpedo. Buchanan and crew👍

Design phase completed. This one wanted to happen. Rules hand written but will do first draft tomorrow then comes the playtesting phase. I really am pleased with this “Peace of Nicias” design. Playing time around 30 m; while on an obscure topic it doesn’t over stay it’s welcome.

Success! Today’s Pacific War objective was to create a one map version (will come in the game) that will let you play every campaign scenario. I had to create a tilted projection but now you can play on the mounted double maps or if space constrained on this one.

May 13th 1864. Grant v Lee after the battle of Spotsylvania included in Rebel Fury. GRANT: battles of the Army of the Potomac, vol. 2 features Grants entire Richmond offensive (May 4- June 3). Individual battles + a campaign to make the East Front crowd jealous + 7 days battle.

Pacific War; setting up the Strategic scenario to make sure, one more time, that it’s perfect. Opened up with Pearl Harbor. First die roll was a 2 with a -5 DRM, 5 hits, critical hit roll of 9 (+3 hits) = 8, doubled (specialrule) = 16 hits. AZ, OK sunk, WVA damaged, 5 more to go.

Tank Duel @gmtgames is the best tactical game I’ve played since Upfront. I spent a great evening in a damaged T34 holding a city center against the hordes of evil. Great tension and narrative. A winner!
