Archeologist spends over 35 years building enormous scale model of Ancient Rome. Scale 1:250. Most of it is based on the Forma Urbis, a huge marble topographical plan made during the empire of Septimius Severus.

Today marks the 76th anniversary of the death of Sophie Scholl. An anti-Nazi political activist, she was convicted of high treason after having been found distributing anti-war leaflets at the LMU with her brother, Hans. As a result, they were both executed by guillotine.

On September 12, 1940, a French teenager took his dog for a walk - a simple everyday event, but it was to lead to one of the most stunning archaeological discoveries of all time. Robot, the dog, ran into a hole created by a fallen tree. Ravidat threw some stones into the hole.

The Veiled Virgin is a Carrara marble statue carved in Rome by Italian sculptor Giovanni Strazza, depicting the bust of a veiled Virgin Mary. The exact date of the statue's completion is unknown, but it was probably in the early 1850s.

In 1959, Ronald McNair (then aged 9) refused to leave a segregated library in South Carolina without being allowed to check out his books. Police were called. In 1976, he got a Ph.D. degree from MIT. In 1986, he was one of the astronauts aboard the space shuttle Challenger.

1) In 2016, I colorized Czesława's photo and posted it on social media for the first time. She was just 14 when she was murdered behind the walls of Auschwitz concentration camp on 12 March, 1943. Her photo is haunting.

Anita Leocádia, sua filha, nasceu em 1936 em uma prisão de mulheres chamada Barnimstrasse, localizada em Berlim. Em novembro de 2019, ela lançou um livro que narra sua trajetória, de título "Viver É Tomar Partido". Anita tornou-se historiadora e professora na UFRJ.

This is the second photo I restored for my series "Slavery in Brazil". It was taken by Alberto Henschel in Recife, circa 1869. The photos were taken a few years before the Lei Áurea, the slavery-abolition law. Brazil was the last country in the Western world to abolish slavery.

This dress has been reassembled from approximately 7,000 beads found in an undisturbed burial of a female contemporary of King Khufu. Although their string had disintegrated, a few beads still lay in their original pattern on and around the mummy, permitting the reconstruction.

I am particularly sad about Luzia, the oldest human fossil found in Brazil. She lived in south-central Brazil some 12,000 years ago and was such an important historical artifact. I can't stand the fact that we lost her.

The boys discovered what were to become known as the Lascaux cave paintings – estimated to be between 17,000 to 20,000 years old and excitedly described by experts as “the cradle of art”. Over 600 parietal wall paintings cover the interior walls and ceilings of the cave.
