Can't break up with your abuser because you can't afford rent on your own—can't move in with mom or grandma because section 8 won't allow it—can't stand up to your slumlord for fear of getting evicted or "reported to CPS"—any feminism worth the name should prioritize housing.
my friend got pulled over for expired tag on friday. cop told her they could arrest her and put her children up for adoption if they wanted to. her kids, my godchildren, were in the backseat and began to cry.
cops lie to instill terror even in children.

i got fired from being cashier at my college cafeteria for letting in students who couldn’t pay but you can be a whole police officer, murder someone at work, and get your job back on a technicality.

a single mom of 3 is $2200 behind & i’m praying her landlord will hold on til our eviction defense program starts in jan.
How did these heros know what to do in order to perform this rescue? Training. And it's not something that's one and done. Like other professions, public safety requires ongoing and updated training. Rescues like these do not belong on a ballot.
police arrest a black legislator for knocking on the governor's door while he signs into law a racist voter suppression bill.
just in case the relationship of cops to fascism was still somehow unclear.

anyone trying to sell themselves as "the person behind" anything should be regarded with skepticism. movements, not individuals, are the agents of social change.
The "Stop Cop City" movement is scrambling to put the question of whether to build the police training center on the ballot and let voters decide the project’s fate.

time to say the quiet part out loud:
the speculator who bought her house to tear down is black. real estate agent representing him? black. and raised in the very same working class neighborhood.
black capitalism, like all capitalism, is a disease.

The University of Georgia, with a billion dollar endowment and an immensely wealthy Board of Regents, sits pretty by keeping thousands of essential workers in poverty. The same is true for the corporate chains that dominate our food landscape by paying workers pennies; (5/17)

“Parker is an experienced organizer and drew national attention when she was sworn in with a copy of The Autobiography of Malcolm X in 2018, which she could surely leverage into a strong fundraising effort.”
We all feel it, but many are scared to say it: the Mayor & Commission are elected, but it’s money that governs. Housing cartels buy up whole blocks of Black neighborhoods-- as JW York has done in East Athens-- while families scramble in the face of eviction. (4/17)
more than a thousand people marched AGAIN in atlanta today, just two days after cops assaulted another thousand-strong march near centennial.

The story of my life is a story of service, but stories are often broken into chapters. I close this chapter with peace, pride and hope at the prospect of a new chapter of focused service to growing that movement. (17/17)

I'm praying for Atlanta, and I’m deeply saddened by the inexcusable violence we saw last night. As Dr. King said, violence never brings permanent peace.
We must keep working to strengthen trust between our police & communities. Only then will we see lasting change & true safety.
no amount of training can heal the soul of policing
no increase in salary can heal the soul of policing
no mountain of shiny toys can heal the soul of policing
no amount of PR can heal the soul of policing

the widespread failure of police violence against the student protests reminds us that police don’t use violence bc it’s effective, they use it bc they like it
