100%. If it is confirmed NoNo in the end both should be run again (like divorce, Nice, Lisbon and abortion) but properly this time. Including with better considered drafting and better public legal education. Vague feels don’t cut it.

The govt is responsible for NoNo vote. Terrible wordings. Dreadful yes campaign that featured establishment politicians, no lone parents, disabled, carers. A lesson that Ireland’s conservative establishment can’t deliver even minimal progress. Real change alway forced from below.

I found the seminar very helpful in clarifying my suspicions that *none* of the testimony given to the Confidential Committee informed the Commission’s findings, in Prof Daly’s view because it was not given under oath.

Just off the 'in discussion' seminar with Professor Mary Daly hosted by Oxford and it is not often I am lost for words but I am just dumbfounded. By some of the responses, language used, obvious dismissal of survivors' testimonies as lesser forms of evidence.

A lovely moment. Since the topic was obstetric violence, I’ll look for a charity that Philomena would have approved of for the prize money.

Reviewing my errors on the mandatory workplace health and safety quiz. One question was about the purposes of a policy. In the blank next to 'save', I wrote 'lives'. Turns out the answer was 'money'. 🙀

Releasing a 2800 page report during a pandemic when most academics are a) slammed working from home to balance teaching and care work b) can’t get to archives even of the records that *are* accessible c) often impacted by the issues themselves is kind of a master stroke by govt.

Well, I for one am very glad to have emigrated to *checks notes* Brexit Britain in time to escape the rise of vicious populists including *squints* Eoin O Broin and Pearse Doherty.

I sat my Leaving Cert in 2000. I sat it a few hours after waking up to find our house on fire. And I did such a good Leaving Cert I got a scholarship and a medal with the face of a dead Irish patriot on it. I think the Leaving Cert should be cancelled this year. You’re welcome.

Donnelly says it "simply wouldn't be possible" for circumstances to arise that a woman would be denied an elective termination at the hospital, and if it were to arise, it could be escalated so that the Minister for Health could exercise 'golden share' powers to ensure provision

Even if you weren't interested in #UnsealTheArchive , this debate is a really important in study in how difficult it is for conscientious legislators/academics/activists to make any contribution to the government's law reform agenda.

Is academic freedom the freedom to develop aggressive theories about minorities in order to uphold structural violence? Going on the last 500 years, yes probably. And there’s your trouble.
