I can’t express in words the creativity, work ethic & understanding of local communities that
@F4SportsCIC
possesses. In 4 weeks they have been a catalyst for new conversations in Welsh sport and have shown that we can make a difference by standing together as one. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
We’ve come along way since
@F4SportsCIC
Midnight Ramadan at
@sportwales
and this photo but I’m so pleased to say
@YunusMo11
has joined the Sport Wales family this week, and I’m so excited to watch his journey.
At
@sportwales
we used the Race Equality Action Plan funding to support our journey to create new inclusive pathways into Sport in Wales. We collaborated with the amazing
@F4SportsCIC
to facilitate the Midnight Ramadan Programme at
@sportwalesNC
, and it was just the beginning.
I can read my tweets 50 times over and think it reads well. Only to notice hours after tweeting my dyslexia has got me missing key words from the tweet.
Ps. I read this multiple times too, 🤞🏽I got all the words in this one 😅
Not only do I feel privileged to be asked to take part in the
@TyCerdd_org
conversation on Race and Music education in Wales. I feel so lucky to hear so many open and honest comments from the rest of the panel.
About last night's midnight sports programme by
@F4SportsCIC
of course it was EPIC! 100+ participants, multiple sports, and the highest jump contest was INSANE - saw someone float at 66cm! Big shoutout to
@Mja20004M
@sportwalesNC
@sqwales
for the biggest and best offer yet 🙌🏽
This is a MUST read by prof
@KalwantBhopal
- “Many white, middle-class women have benefited from pressure to address inequality. But women of colour have still found the door firmly shut in their face.” Say it again for the people at the back 👏🏽👏🏽
I’m always super cynical of organisations that say they are anti-racist but today I saw first hand the amazing work that is ongoing at
@JubileeParkPS
. The work is authentic, the people are open and vulnerable in their approach and the children well they are going to be leaders.
Day 2 of
@F4SportsCIC
Ramadan programme. Another great success, with squash becoming a favourite amongst participants, many of whom are only playing for the 2nd time ever, and spent the day learning the rules online.
@sqwales
over to you, a new multicultural pool of players await
Today for the first time I have been nominated by my students in 4 categories at
@USWSU
awards WOW! Best Academic Supervisor/Best Course Leader/Best Lecturer/The Staff Award for Student Partnership. I feel so proud to have inspired such a wonderfully talented cohort Thank YOU ALL
And there it is, my final day of teaching at USW completed. What an amazing 2 years, I have met so many amazing students on this journey, and I want to wish them all the best of luck in the future. Thank you for letting me part of your lives.
I’m starting to run out of positive things to say about the Ramadan programme facilitated by
@F4SportsCIC
. Yet again another amazing night at the home of Welsh sport. A night where even more barriers to sport in Wales were eliminated. 1/4
Thrilled with the success of our Midnight Ramadan Sport programme at the Home of Welsh Sport 🏴

I’ve just got home from
@sportwalesNC
, where
@F4SportsCIC
and
@sportwales
have put on an amazing Ramadan Sports programme. Really good to see some old faces, but also reconnect with our Muslim community in Cardiff. 1/4
Today we delivered two workshops in Butetown to young people, who have never been on a BMX, never seen a pro athlete in real life and some who haven’t ridden a bike! Today was bigger the just cycling, it was the start of a journey to a more active wales for so many young people.
So pleased to see
@F4SportsCIC
back in the
@sportwalesNC
today hosting their summer camp. It’s heart warming to see so many young people from Global Majority backgrounds having access to sport and free meals throughout the school holidays.
The Ramadan programme is open to everyone and is part of our ongoing approach to accelerating equity in Welsh sport. This is one of the biggest midnight Ramadan sports programme’s in Wales, and it’s amazing to be part of the team behind it, but all credit to
@F4SportsCIC
👏🏽 This is just the beginning, I’m proud and grateful of all my colleagues at
@sportwales
for helping to host this programme. Thank you to
@F4SportsCIC
for showing us what is possible, they are such a great foundation that will do so much for young people in Wales.
Our Midnight Ramadan Sport Programme
@SportWalesNC
has been a huge success 🙌
Thanks to
@SportWales
we have been thrilled to play a crucial role in breaking down barriers and helping our diverse communities become more active and healthier 💪🏾

I managed to get a photo before it got to busy on the basketball courts, well over 75 people playing sports at 1 am. I’m so pleased I have been part of this journey with
@sportwales
to start accelerating our race equity journey.

If you’ve read my previous few tweets, here is the Ramadan programme being facilitated by
@F4SportsCIC
and hosted by
@sportwalesNC
. I can’t urge everyone enough to come along and experience the energy, fun and laughter that this programme is providing to our Muslim community.
Outstanding! Breaking down barriers and smashing expectations.
@F4SportsCIC
are the essential case study for an inclusive sport system in Wales. It’s not just Ramadan, is so much more and it’s the reason why they do what they do all year round.
🎉Record-breaking weekend with our Midnight Ramadan Sports Programme!
Over 300 participants joined us from Friday to Sunday, making it our largest turnout yet 🤩
The Female only activities were a massive success, marking a milestone for inclusivity & Female empowerment. 🤸🏽♀️

So far this term I delivered a class where my students discussed Mr Eazi, Dave, Ramz, YxngBane, Shatta Wale, Rema, Rosalia, Anitta, Drake, Tia Ray, Aya Nakamura, Toure Kunda, Samra and Capo. How do you diversify your curriculum?
I have a real problem with organisations that talk about diversity being a priority, but simply play diversity. I’m seeing a stream of marketing material posted on social media platforms that give the impression that organisations do not have staff from Black and Global majority.
This thread represents so much, the whole team at
@F4SportsCIC
have done a fantastic job. There is so much to learn from the team and share throughout the sector and beyond. 👏🏽🙌🏽
We're into the finale week of our multi-sport summer camp 🌟 and we are proud to have put on 5 weeks of exciting sport and physical activity with an average of 90 children in attendance per session in the community and

Last night, we kicked off our Midnight Ramadan Activities at the Home of Welsh 🏴 Sport - this was the very first time

opened up its doors beyond usual hours.
Many thanks to
@SportWales
for working with us on making this possible 🙌
#MidnightRamadanSportsWales
Incredibly proud of our
@WLV_IHM
course leader Amanda Ross and her story of graduating a Masters as a student parent is truly inspirational. The obstacles and self-doubt student parents/carers/guardians face are immense but these odds can be overcome!!
SpiderMan Miles Morales is an absolute game-changer for Parker! Seeing a superhero who looks like him is a powerful reminder that he too can be a hero, instilling him with confidence, inspiration, and a sense of belonging. Representation matters beyond the spider-verse!
It was the time I’ve been to an event exploring anti-racism where I did not roll my eyes and think this is the same old story. I actually spent a lot of time reflecting on my own pedagogy and was blown away by what I was hearing.
Can’t believe it’s the final weekend, what an inspirational 4 weeks. If you can make it this week, come down and join in, you certainly won’t regret it.
@F4SportsCIC
have put on a great programme that is open to everyone. Sleep and you’ll miss it!

Wow! Today is an exciting day for cycling in Wales. Using the ARWAP, we were able to support these sessions taking place. First time on a BMX for some, great to see so many smiles on faces!
Starting to get really excited to launch the re-vamped BA Music Business course at USW this September. This course has been built with social justice and cultural diversity at its heart. The course is open to everyone, all are welcome.
#changingHE
Today I delivered a talk discussing Diveristy, Inclusion and Social Justice, as part of the
@UniSouthWales
Learning and Teaching conference. Some amazing comments from colleagues... Now is the time for reform and change!
Wow! This response from the deputy minister of sports and arts not only highlights white privilege and the protection of power dynamics, but also showcases a disregard for listening to the Welsh public. It's an alarming combination that warrants attention and reflection.
Well, I guess we can’t count on Dawn to be an ally or fix the institutional racism in culture/publishing. Glad to see
@SeneddWales
@WelshGovernment
are listening to the voices of the public!
I’m hoping for a positive, logical conclusion. Common sense must prevail here to support Wales' narrative shift and changing perceptions of what it means to be Welsh. It's incredible that we have a Cymraeg-English artist denied space when audiences are eager to see them.
This is
@SageTodz
performing at last year's National Eisteddfod in Ceredigion. He's a great artist and one who's continuing to break new ground in Cymraeg-English bilingual performance and song-writing
It’s heart breaking when your working endlessly to do a ground breaking creative community event & receive no support from
@Arts_Wales_
. Why are you there for then ?
This is a phenomenal programme designed by
@F4SportsCIC
. Not only empowering the Muslim community to stay fit and healthy during Ramadan but it is truly bringing together individuals from all communities. Thank you to everyone from
@sportwales
who joined the programme tonight 4/4
We had an exceptional time today for Week 2 of our Multi-sport Summer Camp 🌟
Reached 100 in attendance ✅️
New Venue Activated ✅️
More Volunteers Enrolled ✅️
Stars of the Day Presentation ✅️
Transport Provided to SW ✅️
100s of children happy and smiling throughout 😊

For those that need to hear this, I need to bring back this tweet: You believed in Santa for 10 years, you can believe in yourself for 10 minutes.. Get out there, there is inspiration out there. Be the best you. I believe in you.
I’ll end this thread with this. There were so many smiles on young people’s faces today and this week which make the very small role I play in this worth it. Thank you to everyone who has supported this week. I can’t wait to see how these sessions continue to grow. 👏🏽
Lots of work still to do and a busy programme planned throughout Ramadan, but
@sportwales
and
@sportwalesNC
really started to feel like the home of Welsh sport tonight. Thank you to
@F4SportsCIC
for facilitating and good luck with the rest of the programme. 4/4

First ever Half Marathon Done ✅ new PB too!! I’m still waiting for the runners high, which I hope will take this pain away!! Thank you to everyone for donating.
2 very important points here… I do wonder how can organisations with zero leadership diversity can truly understand these issues. Enough is enough, no more conversations, we need radical reform around race in sport now! This isn’t just happening in Spain, it’s here too. 💥
Thank you
@IanWright0
Nail on the head. We need to impact the money to make them move…
I don’t want anyone to feel helpless anymore. As you say, we’ve all been there. A leadership with zero diversity will never truly understand that.

@HeinzUK
Do you like weetabix? Yes I do, yes I do. Do you like Beanz? Yes I do, yes I do. Do you like Weetabix Beanz
#weetabeanz
? No I don't, YUCKY!
@SimpleSongs
Can you do the song please?
In the build up to this week, I’ve had some important conversations with community leaders and pro athletes. There are so many stories to be told this week about how the ARWAP has supported Global Majority people experience new sports in Wales for the first time.
So much learning for not only
@sportwales
but also for NGBs, partners, and all stakeholders of Welsh sport. Traditionally, common barriers to accessing sport, such as "transport" and "location," were eliminated by
@F4SportsCIC
. Sport got a whole lot closer to home. 2/4
By far the highlight of last night’s session was the introduction to new areas of the
@SportWalesNC
particularly the opening up the high-performance gym - this was extremely popular and a fantastic opportunity to explore the science behind sports 🤩📈
#MidnightRamadanSportsWales
“Give me anti-racism but make it palatable for the attendees racialised as white, particularly the men”- Wrong facilitator
@lizpemtbnm
this is spot on. Literally had the below happen recently, but they said it directly to me.
In one such incident when I delivered at an ANTI-RACIST CONFERENCE (the irony 🤣) a white man felt the need to share with me via the event organiser (another white man) that he was distracted from the content of my talk because I’d made him feel momentarily uncomfortable 🥴3/4
Watching the Ramadan programme at
@sportwalesNC
last night left me shattered. I have a huge respect for our Muslim community participating in midnight sports across Wales while fasting during the day, who show incredible dedication and self-discipline to their faith.
@F4SportsCIC
ensured that the home of Welsh sport the
@sportwalesNC
felt closer to home for so many. By providing shuttle buses across southern Cardiff, they made participation more accessible and inclusive to the communities that need it most. 👏🏽 3/4
Delivered a talk on Music Business today at
@coleggwent
- I met a lot of students that are really passionate about succeeding within the music industry, it was great to see such energy. Thank you for inviting me

Today I had the privilege of welcoming
@DariSamuels
to USW to deliver a fascinating talk about Radio and the Music Business - so much positive feedback from our students about this event, I look forward to having Dari back in the future.

It’s A-level results day, remember your results do not change you as a person. If you are still thinking about or wishing to go to university, why not consider joining the revamped Music Business course at USW.. drop me an email or reply to this tweet.

Excited to reflect on an incredible evening at
@sportwalesNC
! It's a privilege to work alongside
@F4SportsCIC
in building and supporting Welsh communities through sports. Together, we're pioneering new ways to empower our Muslim community and make a difference across the sector.
Parker and Olivia raised over £1000 between them for
@Velindre
Cancer Centre. Parker did really well in the 50m toddler dash and Olivia put in a good time in the 2K.
✅ Today I completed the Revalidation process for BA Music Business, it passed and will run from September 2020. A 10-month solo project to learn, revise, teach and project the future of the course, all in my first 10 months! I’m low-key proud of myself.
Today, by connecting once again with
@F4SportsCIC
and my colleague
@YunusMo11
we were able to connect with two primary schools in Cardiff that sit in some of the most deprived areas in Wales. Through conversations with
@MattiHemmings
and
@Fusion__Extreme
the BMX workshops emerged
This is so important and these words perfectly articulate the damage this situation has caused, and trauma individuals are causing with their use language. For me it’s not about choosing sides, it’s about doing the right thing for social justice and equity for everyone in Wales.
I’m sorry if that’s the case but I can’t see any references to such disgusting language.
But I have had awful racism aimed at me due you your decision to post that long thread & I hold you &
@eisteddfod
accountable for inciting abuse which I and others had to endure. 🎻
Took some advice yesterday to run again, and here I am back at the start line. My Friday quote is: “Surround yourself with good people, who inspire you to find the inner you.”
I’m always amazed by the
@WLV_IHM
team at
@WlvBusiness
. Today we are hosting the
@ITTFutureYou
conference, allowing our students to meet and hear from industry professionals. Thank you to the Amanda and the team for putting together this amazing event.
@DARPLwales
@charwilliamsOBE
This could be done quickly through a Revalidation process on any degree programme and be embedded on to a course the following academic year. Or content could be embedded into existing modules as long as LOs are met. The real question, why haven’t we done so yet?
Learning about Representation Matters at the JEDI launch this evening. Thanks to
@louisgraysocial
and
@aheciataylor
for developing this important scheme.
@DARPLwales
Such a useful conversation and I’m so pleased it is taking place in my old school. I never thought I would have a career in education, but it is possible.
Today I was privileged to attend the
@F4SportsCIC
Summer Camp Awards 2023. There were so many young children in attendance, who were having fun with their friends and enjoying the opportunity to be active throughout the summer holidays.
I’m excited that in my role, working with colleagues who are really pushing the narrative for change and equity, we might make these “hard to reach” sports accessible. This is just the beginning of the journey.
I want to give a special mention to my colleague
@aheciataylor
- one of the reasons that JEDI had such a successful launch was due to your energy and passion for the project. You’ve helped change the game!
#jediwlv
I’m gutted I can’t make it tonight to join the
@sportwales
team and
@F4SportsCIC
for tonight’s midnight sports programme. It’s been such an exciting programme to be part of. Good luck to everyone involved tonight, if you can make it this weekend I highly recommend joining in!
Yesterday, I was racially profiled and threatened by a security guard in
@WHSmith
at Birmingham New Street station. This was unprovoked and continued when I left the store, where the security guard make aggressive and violent hand gestures towards me. I’m not a threat.
Reading and liking tweets is great, but to experience and be part of the Ramadan programme is even better. As someone who doesn’t practice any religion I’ve personally felt so welcome by the Muslim community. It is fantastic to be able to share these important cultural moments.
Looking forward to this again tonight, if you are in Butetown/Grangetown, be sure to get in touch with
@F4SportsCIC
for help with transport to the
@sportwalesNC
Tonight we go again! Another 🏀midnight ramadan programme this time back at

My first graduation at Wolverhampton, what a fantastic day. Our students made us so proud, I’m confident that they will go on to achieve great things!! Good luck to the class of 2020.
Still on a massive high from seeing all of our awesome students graduate yesterday. Gigantic grins everywhere and the sense of pride was tangible!
Well done again to our class of 2020 - We wish you every success for your future journeys 🤗 Keep in touch!

For transparency, I only achieved 45cm and our own Elliot got over 51cm to give
@sportwales
staff a respectable 5th place on the leaderboard. It was a really fun night, and I’m looking forward to tonight, I may or may not be stretching all day today to improve my jumping 😅
This whole adventure started because we wanted to make a
@wibmerfabio
Red Bull helmet. We did, but we took one step further - We went to Germany and met Fabio Wibmer, who signed Parker’s helmet! Chapter closed... I give you Mini Wibmer!
This made me think about my favourite quote by
@MichelleObama
: “our motto is: ‘When they go low, we go high’.” High enough to overcome barriers and obstacles in our way. There’s always a plan for us.
Breaking down barriers one step at a time to make sport accessible for diverse communities, in particular the children who wouldn’t of had access otherwise. We keep going 🤝🏾
Delivered the last
@Fusion__Extreme
BMX Workshop for this year last Sunday! It’s been a fantastic time running these as they get more popular. We will be looking to start them back up in the new year. 🤙 Have a good Christmas & New Year.
Would be great to see talent from our global majority community in Wales come through this process. If you are keen to unlock opportunities for equity and support better relationships with people across Wales, this new role might be for you. 👀
@aheciataylor
and I are really excited to introduce JEDI, a positive action programme that's all about uplifting and unlocking Black and Global Majority students, to overcome disadvantages and barriers that they often face in higher education.
If a national champion has to train in a car park, what hope do young kids who aspire to do this have? I have a 4yo that looks up to Matti and it would great to see better facilities for athletes.
How a National BMX Flatland Champion trains 😂 in Wales bravo to 🏴 🇬🇧 cycling federations
@Dawn_Bowden
i should have become a footballer, rugby player or tennis player! Something more traditional as facilities are much nicer.
My conversations with
@MattiHemmings
were enlightening and empowering, we talked about a vision for cycling where more people had access to safe spaces to ride, and to facilities/equipment across Wales. I knew working with Matti and
@F4SportsCIC
could help start that journey.
