Someone tweeted out this past weekend that Stubbs and Leitao are the same coach. It took Leitao 3 years to win his 9th Big East game. Stubbs has already matched that. Leitao beat a total of three ranked teams in 6 years. Stubbs already matched that. Pretty clear who’s better.

Lol Providence’s undergraduate enrollment is just above 4,000 and has one of the biggest men’s basketball budgets. DePaul, the largest catholic university in the country, doesn’t come anywhere close to that. The Board of Trustees don’t care. They haven’t for two decades.

Winning basketball games is a different story, but the upgrade that DePaul athletics has went through in marketing, social media and transparency is immense. Stuff like this might seem small overall, but fans care about this. This wasn’t happening in the JLP era.

It confuses me how much DePaul’s leadership fails to understand what a successful men’s basketball program means to the rest of the athletic department and the university. A lot of the university’s issues would be solved if the men’s team was nationally relevant.

Northwestern just knocked off the No. 1 team in the country in what looked like a packed arena and virtually secured a berth to the NCAA Tournament. No reason why DePaul can’t replicate this type of success. But the people at the top have to show they care. No more excuses.

For reference: As bad as Wainwright, Purnell and Leitao were — and they were very bad — none of them ever started a season 1-5. This is officially a new rock bottom for DePaul. You can’t keep a coach after this start.

How can anyone who works at #DePaul watch this play out every single game for five years and not make any changes? This team is embarrassing on all levels, the most talent Leitao has had and he is 1-10 in the Big East. This team is a national joke, and nothing will change.
