Moeen Ali was subject to an islamophobic attack and his teammates immediately rallied behind him, calling out the bigot. Contrast this with India, where Muslim actors, sportspersons, celebrities of all fields face vilest attacks routinely and their lifelong colleagues stay mum.
If a Muslim cricketer can say the right thing in these times— who is objectively at a much greater risk and has a lot more to lose — then the others who blindly peddled propaganda yesterday really don't have any excuse. Not of fear of persecution or targeting, or anything.
For Kohli to explicitly say how he has been able to recover because of Anushka’s love and support isn’t just relevant because she was trolled for years for his slumps, but it also shows what healthy/non-toxic masculinity looks like. Where you appreciate your wife publicly. King.
Men will spend a lifetime asking women why they didn’t register a complaint against their sexual harasser. They’ll ignore all the examples of when speaking up caused a woman more trauma than remaining quiet, when it caused her to quit her job, her passion, her everything.

What a sad day in this country. One of many.
Almost every journalist going to report on Jahangirpuri is returning unwell. The heat is, with no exaggeration, unbearable. Now think of all those who lost their homes today, many of whom would be fasting. Parched and empty stomach, the roof over their head has also been stolen.
This time last year, 19 people part of the

This triggers so many horrible memories. Growing up as a Muslim in India was never ever fun. From your elite private schools to govt colleges, Indian educational institutions are a hotbed of Islamophobia. Cannot even fathom what it’s like for Muslim students post 2014.

The collective anger of Muslim women you're witnessing on your timelines today comes from a place of deep anguish-- of being exoticised, demonised, and patronised, all at once. Experiences ranging from being constantly talked down upon, to being sold online.

If you can, imagine what it would be like to be any Muslim in this video. Imagine the threat, danger staring you in the face. Imagine what incredible resilience, patience and courage it would have taken to act this calmly.
Imagine what it is like to be a Muslim in India today.
In the last few months, Muslim women have been harassed and assaulted on being spotted with a Hindu man. A mob of men from the Muslim community descends upon them-in public- and in many cases forcefully takes off their niqab to videograph their face. 1/n
Boss, no one can claim to understand what it'd be like to be an SRK in this age. No need for gyaan like "should've resisted harder because you got punished anyway".He once made a mild remark about intolerance and they were out with guns. There's no method to this madness of hate.

Remember this photograph? It went viral back in December 2021, when 6 Hijabi girls weren’t allowed in their classes in Karnataka’s Udupi. Since then, the number of hijabi girls barred entry has swollen to several thousands.
We have moved on, but their lives are stuck in a rut.
I spoke to one of the lead Hijabi student petitioners last night after the Karnataka HC Hijab verdict.
"We are heartbroken, we had so much hope from the court...our college life is ruined, the education of so many girls will suffer because of this"
This is a very bold statement for two reasons. One, calling out the bigotry of many Indians-- something most politicians shy away from doing.
Second, explicitly mentioning the targeting of Dalits, Muslims, Tribals and not some generic phrase like "marginalised communities"
The shameful truth is many Indians don’t consider Dalits, Muslims and Tribals to be human.
The CM & his police say no one was raped because for them, and many other Indians, she was NO ONE.
On this important night of Ramzan, spare a prayer for the mental well-being of Indian Muslims who are seeing violence play out day and night, nothing short of absolutely crushing and devastating. You normalise it as a part of documentation and resistance, but it catches up to you
Imagine being an ordinary Muslim in India just going about their day and stumbling upon this absolutely soul-churning video. How do you expect them to show up to work, and attend that scheduled meeting and come to your evening party, knowing this country hates them?

The men harassing Hijabi girls outside their college aren't some purveyors of feminist values. Any scholar/academician trying to shift the conversation from Hijabi women's right to education, to one about "patriarchy of Hijab" etc, is being deliberately intellectually dishonest.
Haseena's cart which was demolished in Jahangirpuri was the only source of income needed for the treatment of her 7-year-old daughter: a cancer patient. On the night of the demolition, her daughter fell sick, but with heavy barricading, she couldn't even be taken to a doctor.
