I am deeply saddened of the passing of Tom Seaver. I had the honor of unsuccessfully hitting against him & having as a teammate. He is the greatest Met of all time. No one will ever surpass him that wears the orange & blue. My condolences to Nancy & his family. Tears.
This is not right. My former major leaguers and teammates are slowly moving off into the sunset. I am really upset about Bill Buckner’s passing. He’s another guy I wished I could have played with, not just against. He was a terrific hitter as well as a human being. Tears.
My heart goes out to Ron Darling. I know that Ron will beat this insidious disease. I’m heartened to hear that his doctors are very optimistic for a full recovery. I will stop at my church this day and light a candle for Ron and his entire family. I look forward to RJ’s return
You’ve all heard the news about Ron Darling.Things we take for granted come to the forefront when we are faced with the aging process. So I say to you all, enjoy every moment of every day, kiss & hug your loved ones & do unto others as you would have others do to you.
Everybody, calm down. This current crisis is unfortunate to the nth degree, but not insurmountable. We have a solid team, good core of young everyday players, mixed with veterans, and a solid rotation. They have great camaraderie, spirit, a will to win, and they’re hungry.
I am so saddened to hear of Bill Buckner’s death at who had been suffering from dementia. 69 years is too young. I know from my mother who also suffered from dementia, that he is in a better place. Bill and I battled to the last day of the 1980 season for the batting title.
GOOD NEWS MY FELLOW TWEETSTERS! DeGROM’s MRI CAME BACK NEGATIVE. HE CAN RESUME THROWING AND THEY ARE HOPEFUL THAT HE WILL MAKE HIS NEXT START. BREATHE A SIGH OF RELIEF. I AM.
BIG SERIES BEGINNING TONIGHT VS. CUBS. OFF DAY WAS GOOD FOR THE METS. THEY ARE AN EMOTIONAL & SPIRITED BUNCH. LIKE TO SEE THEM CALM DOWN EMOTIONALLY DURING GAMES. IT'S TOO DRAINING. MUST STAY ON AN EVEN KEEL. THEY ARE YOUNG AND WILL LEARN. LGM
I would like to thank all you friends and fans out there for your kind birthday wishes. It is much appreciated and heartfelt. Hadji turned 18 in the first week of October. We’re both rip-roaring & ready to go! Thank you!
Everybody have a wonderful Thanksgiving with family members, friends, or maybe alone. It’s your choice. Be safe, happy and wear the mask if and when you’re mingling. Before you know it, February will be upon us bringing with it the start of a new baseball season & a new Mets’ era
I hear from some of you tweetsters that my Seinfeld episode was on tonight on Pix. That means I’ll get a nice little check. Enough to pay for dinner tomorrow with the boys in DC. GN
This will all iron itself out. So sit back, enjoy life. Life is good. Stop stressing. Our season will hinge on our bullpen. Betances is a good gamble and he’s pitched in NY. Atlanta and Washington lost key offensive players. Division wide open and very competitive. So relax.
This Mets team is showing a lot of youthful enthusiasm which I love. Reminds me of my first full season with the Mets in 1984. Trust me, it rubs off on the old guys. I know its early but I’m enjoying this bunch. Here’s to an exciting summer.
Great day in Mets’ Land yesterday. Three solid, veteran players with post season experience. The Mets’ front office and ownership have made it pretty clear that they are serious. They’re not done yet. More to come. METS FANS! REJOICE! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
The Mets are only 6 back in the Wild Card race. First things first. Their first objective is to get to .500. Under .500 isn’t going to cut it. They’ve got good teams ahead of them. Those teams are not going to finish below .500. Current weak schedule helps. Lot of season left
Hello everyone. I know Hadji and I haven’t been tweeting for quite a while. Tough season for all of us, players, front office and fans. Hang in there. I know you’ve heard it before for countless times, but nevertheless, hang tough.
He was the final piece and an important one in so many ways. He brought an aggressive, hustling style of play along with leadership behind the plate & a will to win. A consummate pro. He played with pain but always ran in & out to his position. I miss him.
THANKS EVERYBODY FOR THE BIRTHDAY WISHES!!! AND YES, IM SHOUTING HAPPILY SO YOU ALL CAN HEAR ME!!! HAVE A GREAT SUNDAY. ASTROS/NATIONALS.... GREAT PITCHING MATCHUPS!!
Are we ready for the second half of the season! The Mets have 75 games remaining. They got through that tough patch of 33 games in 31 days holding onto their 3.5 game lead which what it was when that stretch began. They went 17-16. I’ll be back in the booth tomorrow night. LGM!
Well, on this day, 35 years ago, I was traded to your New York Metropolitans. A day that would forever change my life. I had to move on and make the most of my new situation. That second half of the 1983 season was a tough one for me. But once I committed to Frank
Everybody who flooded me with well wishes, thank you very much. The surgery seems to have been successful. Relatively pain free, but expected stiffness. Just finished my 2nd day of PT. They tell me I’m ahead of the game. Was walking the day after surgery, 9 days ago, with help of
My new “Quarantine” haircut! Won’t have to worry about my hair for a month!
Very upset that there are 5 edge pieces to the puzzle missing. Or else they’re hiding out with the other pieces. Can’t find them. I’ve searched hi and lo. I wonder if Hadji has something to do with this.
3 Cardinals MVP’s. 3 of 6 1st basemen in Cardinals 140 years of existence to win this prestigious award. 5 x MVP winners in this photo. The great Albert Pujols (3) myself & Paul Goldschmidt (1) So proud to be a significant part of Cardinals history.
Pete Alonso has been very impressive so far. He has showed me impressive strength, the line drive he hit in game 2 off the right -center field fence stunned me. Only Stanton hits line drives that hard. He has shown good plate discipline (Good eye at plate) thus far.
Met this lovely couple just after the Belmont race last night at Clarke’s. Both in their early 90’s, healthy, minds sharp as a tack & such positive attitudes. They met 68 years ago when at school at Syracuse. He’s a old Yankee fan. Saw Babe Ruth play. They were inspirational.
So pleased that the Mets resigned Adam Ottavino. He was a work horse out the bullpen last season. He is a solid reliever. Big asset and boost to Mets pen. Plus, he’s a professional on and off the field and in the clubhouse.
One little tweet. I’ve been saying since spring, the Mets have their strongest bench In a long while. Exhibit 1 and 2: Wilmer Flores and Brandon Nimmo. This gives Mickey lots of options and the ability to rest this mostly veteran lineup.
Hadji heading north with Daddy. Our bi-annual trip. NY-WPB-now back to NY. Overnight in Sag, then off to Philadelphia for a very important series with those Phillies.
Hello Jerry. Mr. Seinfeld in the booth with us last night. Always great fun and always great to see Jerry. He had some very poignant opinions on the state of the game and the Mets. Very astute baseball fan.
I’ve blown out my back once again. This time I ruptured a disc, T11-12, which is my mid back. Surgery is scheduled latter part of next week. I have a terrific surgeon. Arthroscopic entry, which means no cutting through tissue & muscle.
Times are bad right now folks. I don’t have the answers. Now Bruce has back issues. I must confess that I am at the lowest point of my Met tenure. I need this day off to regroup. But I’ll never throw in the towel. Someone, something has to turn this
A little pre-game gorge on King Cones. That’s your beloved Gary Cohen on left, yours truly, our Fearless Leader & producer, Gregg Picker, & Monsieur Ron Darling. I’m working out tomorrow so don’t worry.
Here’s to 11-1. Love what Mickey is doing with the bullpen. As promised he is calling on everyone. Last night Gsellman to get a crucial 3rd out in the 8th when he could’ve used Familia for a 4 out save. Terrific. Building confidence in these young players. Love it.
MY PARTNER IN THE BOTH. MY CONDUCTOR. MY MAESTRO. I’D BE NOTHING BUT JUST ANOTHER RETIRED JOCK IN THE BOOTH WITHOUT HIM. WELL DESERVED ACCOLADES. An appreciation of Gary Cohen via
@AmazinAvenue
I want everybody to know that I’m following Michael Kay and he has just informed me that David Cone is upset I’m not following him. I did that when we played together and it got into nothing but trouble! But I’m willing to follow again. So I’m following George.
What a table of HOF’ers and Gold Glover’s in NYC for tonight’s Rawlings GG Awards Dinner. I’m presenting the awards to this years’ 1st base winners. And I’m getting inducted into the Rawlings’ Gold Glove HOF. Very nice. Great honor. How about this table of great fielders!
Good morning you all. Mets fell a bit flat last night. The rotation turns over today with Syndergaard. Mets must win the rest of the way when Noah & Jacob are on the mound. Wheeler and Matz have to continue their good pitching performances. They must go deep into games as well.
I have never been inundated with calls on my cell from obvious scammers. Calls supposedly from Medicare. Now, the last two days, I get multiple calls from Apple, Inc. Never trust anyone over the phone. They are scams looking for your information. It is such an invasion of privacy
What a beautiful sunset today from my balcony in Juno Beach. The weather has been rainy, chilly and overcast the last couple of days. The sun finally popped out this afternoon giving us this glorious sunset.
My new vicuña cashmere jacket for cool to cold April, September, & October night games. Great clothing store in downtown Miami about 1/4 mile from Mets’ hotel. Jaxson Maximus. Fine clothing and tailoring.
