Jahmir Young has nothing to hang his head about. Amazing season. Came in and led the
#Terps
in his first season with the program back to the NCAA tourney earning All-B1G honors along the way.
I’m gonna need someone to explain to me how the selection committee thinks Indiana is the 13th best team in the country but Maryland isn’t one of the 16 best teams, also. Nearly identical resumes and the Terps beat the Hoosiers head to head.
Biggest takeaway from tonight's win that should help explain a lot of the frustration of
#Terps
fans: This was Maryland's first win over a ranked OOC opponent since beating Iowa St. in Kansas City back on Nov. 25 2014. That's seven years.
And for the record, I’m not saying the refs are the reason Maryland lost. But at some point, when questionable calls keep going against you over and over, you need to take a public stand, put them on blast and let everyone see.
#Terps
are going to move to 6-0 and now begin a brutal stretch that includes @ Louisville, Illinois, @ Wisconsin, Tenn. and UCLA. Going to learn a lot about this team over the next two weeks.
Don’t understand how they don’t review a turnover that clearly was NOT a turnover, especially in a nationally televised game of the week with cameras everywhere.
Also of note,
#Terps
lead guard Jahmir Young is now listed 10th in the KenPon Player of the Year standings. Going to be very difficult to keep Young off the All-Big Ten first team.
14 Maryland football players will don new patches on their uniforms Saturday to show they have received their undergraduate degrees.
These patches will be worn by all
#Terps
student-athletes who have already obtained an undergrad degree.
Another impressive performance from Darryl Morsell, who finishes with 15 points, 5 boards, 4 dimes and four steals. Glue guy who does all the dirty work. Very reminiscent of Byron Mouton.
So Rutgers, South Carolina, Oregon, Louisville and more are selling football season tix at Costco. Will be interesting to see how successful these marketing campaigns are. For schools struggling to sell tix, seems like a pretty bright idea.
Reed tipped the ball and Coley hit him with his shoulder. Absolutely awful call on a play that would have absolutely completely changed the momentum of this game going into the locker room.
This team has looked better than any Maryland team under Turgeon over the past two weeks. And they seem to get better every time out. This team has an extremely high ceiling.
In 5-plus full seasons as a head coach, Locksley is now 0-6 coming out of the bye week. If you include the COVID-shortened 2020 season, it becomes 0-8.
#Terps
get a big 75-60 win over Ohio State with the 2002 champs looking on.
Fatts Russell and Eric Ayala combine for 50 points in the win. This is what folks envisioned from this backcourt when they were ranked in the preseason.
With the addition of 4-star Peny Boone, the
#Terps
have locked up two of the top 35 RB in the country before summer officially starts. Three schools right now can say they have done that: Clemson, Oklahoma & Maryland. Pretty good company.
Gonna go ahead and just say it, with Northwestern coming into this week's game ranking 103rd nationally against the run, there's almost no chance Tagovailoa plays Saturday. Sit him, pound the rock vs. NW and then he's got 2 weeks to get ready for Wisconsin.
I’m envisioning Mark Turgeon sitting at the bar at The Starboard, sipping on a crush and munching on some Turgeon Tenders while watching this game with a big smirk on his face.
Come Selection Sunday, today’s victory might just look like another Quad 2 win. But make no mistake about it, this was arguably Maryland’s best performance of the season against a really good NW team that could do some damage come NCAA tourney time.
The
#Terps
have also signed former Michigan State OL commit Logan Bennett, a three-star interior lineman out of Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances, to bring the current total to 14.
Derik Queen has elite hands, touch, footwork and vision for a big man. I liken him to a young Zach Randolph. Same size and build, both excellent at finishing around the rim from either block and similar skill set.
Those are the types of wins that define championship seasons.
#Terps
had everything going against them. And they just found a way to win. Five B1G road wins.
Broadcast crew for Thursday's
#Terps
game: Jim Nantz (play-by-play), Bill Raftery (color), Grant Hill (color) and Tracy Wolfson (sideline)
That's also your Final Four crew right there.
BREAKING: The
#Terps
have landed a commitment from Alabama grad transfer Galin Smith. The 6-foot-9 forward averaged 3.1 points and 2.5 rebounds per game last season for the Tide.
After starting last season 8-0, Kevin Willard is 30-30 (.500) over the last 60 games.
The moves Willard makes over the next couple of months will likely define the remainder of his time at Maryland.
The
#Terps
flipped Auburn three-star DT commit Dimitry Nicolas this morning. He joins local four-star Kevyn Humes and local three-star safety Shamar McIntosh as MD's late signees.
Big win for the
#Terps
over the No. 17 Illini. Kudos to Danny Manning for bringing Donta Scott off the bench and really lighting a 🔥 under him. He finishes with an efficient 25 points and 6 boards to lead the way.
Most impressive
#Terps
stat line from tonight that won't really get talked about: Hakim Hart. Finished w/ just 2 points, but had 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. His presence on the court huge for spacing and opens things up for others. Terps were +24 with him on the floor.
FINAL:
#Terps
76, Illinois 67
Maryland gets a massive road win over the No. 10 Illini.
Jahmir Young with a game-high 27 points and Julian Reese finishes with 20 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double.
Terps will take a two-game win streak to Northwestern on Wed.
Jahmir Young scores a career-high 37 points to carry the
#Terps
to a 69-60 win at UCLA.
One of the best individual performances I can remember from a Terp in a long time.
The
#Terps
remain red-hot on the recruiting trail, landing a commitment from Fla. safety Brandon Jacob, their third straight four-star commit in the month of July.
Maryland landing a commitment from Harris-Smith is HUGE for a number of reasons. This might be a recruitment folks look back on years from now as one that signaled a new *ERA in DMV recruiting.
The
#Terps
have just landed a commitment from IMG 7-footer
@bradenpierce24
. He becomes the 4th member of Maryland's 2023 class and fills a huge need in the front court for head coach Kevin Willard.
