Scarecrow by Jerry Schatzberg has become one of my favorite films. Got to spend an afternoon with him for the

🤜 to all the documentary filmmakers at Sundance who went to the dark side and made fiction! Jennifer Fox, Jeremiah Zagar, and

. Can't wait to see all your films.
Laughed a lot during Hsin-yao Huang's "The Great Buddha +". Has a great sense of humor, grounded in the everyday reality of Taiwanese day laborers. Reminiscent of the French New Wave and early Jarmusch. A wonderful debut!

Obviously the health of our society is more important than any film, but I was thinking about my early 20s and my first film premiering at
#sxsw
. There was such an importance of this event to me as an artist. Wishing all the first time filmmakers lots of luck.
The most devastating impact of this year's
#SXSW
cancellation is what it means for the countless films in the lineup seeking distribution. I made some calls to filmmakers, sales agents, and publicists still reeling from the news: via

Looking forward to the

release of

's heartbreaking triptych Willow, Northern Macedonia's Oscar submission, a film that has deepened in meaning for me during the pandemic. Willow asks urgent questions about the purpose of motherhood and our own existence.
One of my professional highlights was being featured in
@AmericanCine
this month. It's to hard to imagine we have been in quarantine for 100ish days already, I have forgotten the weight of the camera. Thanks
@strikeanywhere
for having me!

A big thank you to Lincoln Plaza Theaters for being huge supporters of independent film in NYC! A lot of Menashe's success was because of them. I don't want to be nostalgic, but between this and our subway system, NYC needs to do better.
Khalik Allah's Black Mother is a dreamy tone poem. On MOMAs huge screen his soft grainy film frames reminded me how much is lost in high resolution. Shooting my next film completely on 8mm.

Rarely do I leave a film with the so much moral ambiguity about what is right and wrong.

"I really hate slick pictures. They’re too perfect to be believable. I don’t mean just in the look. I mean in the rhythm, in the cutting, the music—everything. The slicker the technique is the slicker the content becomes, until everything turns into Formica including the people."
X-country skiers are existential heroes in goggles and tights.Instead of offering us distraction—the glittery melodrama of figure skating or the quirky novelty of curling—Xcountry skiers lean right into a bleak truth:We are stranded on a planet that is largely indifferent to us.
This is how I feel when I go to the grocery store now and there are no more dried black beans. BC (Before Corona), I felt like I was the only person buying them, but now...empty.
Spending the week with

Got to be on the

next month.
Chic - oh, don't you start using that filthy, little word, chic. Whoever invented that ought to be spanked in public. (Just saw Phantom Thread a second time in theaters, think I need to get some bow ties).
Life can be upsetting and messy and far from fiction. But
