Most people misunderstand the story of Jesus and the woman caught in Adultery. Jesus was not allowed by the Law to command her stoning nor to cast a stone. Jesus understood the Law and its purpose, the Pharisees didn't. Jesus did not overturn the Law, he obeyed it.

@_matthewpearson I think the problem comes with individual application. You cannot say, "I am the bride of Christ." That's the Church collectively. Individualizing bridal imagery has lead to effeminacy in the Church historically. Many of the Psalms demonstrate individual relation to God in song.
