Many think distilled spirits are low in calories, but some have a lot of sugar as well!
🍸Vodka and Tequila can be anywhere between 60-100 calories
🥃 Whiskey can average close to 100 calories
So just because the shot glass is smaller, doesn't mean it's any healthier 👀 4/5

“We need to relinquish ourselves from the pressure to explain ourselves. Simply saying, ‘No, thank you,’ is really good enough. There’s no other explanation necessary.”
Alcohol use in heavy amounts—greater than 3 to 4 drinks a day—is associated with higher blood pressure. Cutting back by 2 to 3 drinks per day can help lower both systolic and diastolic pressure!

Mindful drinking isn’t about what you’re losing; it’s about all that you stand to gain.
Cutting back comes with some powerful benefits! You can expect better sleep, improved mood, brighter skin, and weight loss. Not too shabby!

Overdoing it on alcohol consumption is a common barrier to maintaining a healthy weight. At an average of 125 calories per drink, even a small reduction can make a big difference!

Let's start with Wine:
🍷 On average, a 5oz glass of wine as 125 calories and 4g of carbs per serving.
Of course, different types of wine have different calorie counts so be sure to reference the full table here: 🍻 2/5
We believe there’s power in finding balance. Sunnyside helps you ease into mindful drinking at your own pace. Our members (for the most part) are NOT looking for an all-or-nothing approach.
On the topic of beer, this is where things get very broad:
🍺Lagers and Ales can range from 125 to 300 calories per serving
🍻Stouts and Porters over average at least 200 calories per serving
So

can save the periodic table above to see how much you drink! 3/5
Alcohol in high amounts can disrupt sleep patterns causing you to awake tired and unrested. Cutting back from high to moderate or low amounts of alcohol has been shown to improve sleep quality substantially.
Stress is a common trigger among many of our members. A hard day at work, unexpected loss, or even taking care of family can make a drink seem appealing. We totally get it. Adding strategies to fight stress can help you stay on track with your goals - check these out!
Our new State of Drinking report shows that increased levels of drinking that started during the pandemic haven't abated. 25% of US adults drank more alcohol in the past 3 months. Check out our full report:

Enjoy the clarity! If you’re used to increasingly blurry evenings with fuzzy endings, pay attention to how you feel on the mornings you wake up after cutting back. Instead of headaches nausea, now you're energized and refreshed!
We surveyed 500+ members about their drinking habits. And we discovered some interesting patterns.
🍻 64% of ppl surveyed had more than 10 alcoholic drinks/week
Compared to the
@CDCgov
data which states 5.1% of US adults are heavy drinkers.

Have a plan and stick to it! Prioritize you and your goals. If someone offers you an extra drink, you can decline - drink on your own terms!

Mindful drinking is being aware of how much alcohol you’re consuming and why, and what each drink might mean to you: another headache, another charge on the card, another load of calories you may not burn off.
Great article about drinking to cope with stress.

Socialize mindfully! When you look at socializing not so much as a reason to drink but more as a way to meaningfully connect with others, chances are you’ll leave social situations feeling far more fulfilled.

Socialize with a plan
Keep a NA drink in hand. Your friends most likely won’t even notice! Another great tactic is to schedule a healthy event early the next morning so you have something to be excited about and help stay focused on your goals around your alcohol intake.

Yes! We love the concept of setting small and attainable goals that start with taking a few weeks off. Especially love this statement: Dry January lets people “sample sobriety” without being overwhelmed by the concept of skipping alcohol forever.

The impact can vary from person to person (how much you drink, age, etc), but generally cutting back or not drinking can dramatically improve overall wellness. Our members see better mental health, productivity, physical health, sleep, diet, etc.
Pace yourself
Here’s a way to take care of two problems at once. If you alternate your drinks with water or non-alcoholic beverages, you’ll both slow your intake and keep your body hydrated and happy.

Your article is so full of insight. Our stance is also that everyone has their own path to the healthy habits. In 2021, there are so many options for people to examine their relationship with drinking that don't mean they experience alcoholism. Thanks for your words!

We agree! We're the anti-Dry January tool, for anyone that wants to still enjoy their favorite drinks, and take it a bit more mindfully. Check us out!

Be cautious with darker drinks
Congeners are byproducts of fermentation that can give a drink its flavor but also lead to more severe hangovers. You’ll find these sneaky chemicals in darker beverages, so take it easy on the bourbon, rum and red wine.
