In September 1989, Bruce Willis hosted SNL. During his monologue he broke into a song and played the harmonica. The following week, Rick Moranis hosted and this was how he began his monologue. Legend.
The world has been less warm, less gracious, and way less funny for 30 years now. Thinking of the great John Candy who passed away on this day in 1994.
I've never understood the hate behind the 1980 Popeye movie, especially considering all that went into its production. From feuds amongst the crew to malfunctioning props, it's a miracle the movie came together at all. Here's how it all happened:
Tom Green did something really unique for the ‘Freddy Got Fingered’ DVD by including an audio track taken from the movie’s premiere. Hearing the audience groan and laugh upon seeing it for the first time is so fun. I hope Criterion includes it.
No matter how small his role in a movie was, you always remembered it and looked forward to it again on repeat viewings. A testament to what a truly original & memorable performer he was. RIP Joe Flaherty
3 years ago I made a video on the lost deleted scenes from my favorite movie. A great article was written about it & Steve Martin tweeted the link. Last year most of the missing footage was discovered after Paramount decided to investigate. Happy ✈️🚊🚘 Day to all who celebrate!
Love it or hate it, The Flintstones was one of the most impressive film productions of the 90's. Here's a look back at how it all came together, from its inspired casting to the marketing mania that followed:
The first cut of the Planes, Trains & Automobiles came in at 3 hours and 40 minutes. I used the shooting script, images, unused footage and other resources to present some of this missing material, in the hopes that together we can

What is the funniest moment in a Spielberg movie? For me it's a close call between this moment from Temple of Doom and the jet pack cooking the burgers in Minority Report.
I saw Larry David at The Three Stooges movie premiere back in 2012. I rudely interrupted him mid-conversation to ask for a selfie. He didn’t smile or even look at the camera. Couldn’t have asked for better interaction.
Here's a fun little exchange that was cut from Home Alone between Catherine O'Hara & John Candy. John Candy shot his scenes in a marathon 22 hour shoot and must of it was ad libbed. There's mostly likely hours of similar takes in a film vault somewhere.
An example of how something as simple as a proper music score would've aided the Super Mario Brothers movie. I replaced the zany Alan Silvestri score with a version of the Super Mario theme by VGH Synthetic Orchestra. Do you think it helps the scene?
@SteveMartinToGo
Steve, this is so cool! Thank you for watching. I made this! This film & your performance has meant so much to me. I’d love to see the extended cut surface someday!
A few years ago I was at a Laurel & Hardy film festival in LA. A dad and his kids were seated behind me and the kids were so excited. I turned around to say how impressed I was to hear young people gushing over classic comedy and saw that the dad was Jack Black.
I’m heartbroken not only because the world has lost a comedy icon, but because Mel Brooks has lost his very best friend. So long, Carl Reiner. Thanks for everything.
The new Planes, Trains & Automobiles BluRay containing 70+ minutes of previously unseen deleted scenes hits shelves tomorrow! Here's my look at some of this amazing new content:
Also Moe in The Three Stooges movie! I’ve told this story before but it deserves repeating. When I was 19, I tweeted at him that I was excited for the movie & he got me an invite to the premiere. Years later, I bumped into him and he remembered me by name. Chris is the real deal
TIL: An elaborate Flash Gordon dream sequence was filmed for ‘A Christmas Story’. It was cut for timing purposes and has never been located. Only a still image survives:
This feels particularly heartbreaking for a celebrity death due to how timeless Pee-wee Herman has always felt — a character that transcended age like Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse. It just always felt like he would be here forever and the world is lesser place because he won’t be.
Releasing a video in the next couple of days that features what is, quite possibly, the worst movie I have ever had to sit through for my content. Stay tuned.
I am legitimately at a loss for words. I would like to think I am in some way responsible for this, but every fan who petitioned for the extended scenes to be released are the real heroes. Thank you, thank you, thank you,
@ParamountPics
. Love is not a big enough word.
Three Amigos is one of the best comedies of the 1980's! The movie had to lose a plethora of scenes to help it maintain its tight pacing though. Here's a look at some of the lost (and found) scenes that were left on the cutting room floor:
30 years ago Super Mario Bros. hit movie screens and has been dividing fans ever since. While its criticism is not unwarranted, there's a lot of good in it as well. Here's a look at the good, bad and everything in between:
I'm pleased to report that Home Sweet Home Alone is just like the original Home Alone... Well, if in the original Home Alone, Harry & Marv had been completely justified in robbing the McAllister household & if Kevin had been an unlikable, snobby, pretentious little monster.
On my ongoing quest to discuss every John Candy movie, I'm finally looking at one of my favorites - Chris Columbus' Only the Lonely, which shows what a powerful actor he truly was. Also features the great Maureen O'Hara in her first role in 20 years:
I omitted this from my Popeye video but I’m fairly certain that Italian actor Bud Spencer was the original choice for Bluto as Paul Smith, who got the part, appeared as a knockoff Bud Spencer in many films. Bud was also a trained stuntman & singer and lived close to the Malta set
Haven’t watched James’ content regularly in years but everyone talking about movies on YouTube today owes a debt of gratitude to the original Monster Madness
If you're from the UK, you can probably quote every line of dialogue from Father Ted, but in the US this show is tragically overlooked. Here's the story behind this iconic sitcom and the case for why it should be embraced in the States:
True story: There was a completely unlicensed Simpsons-themed restaurant called Moe’s Grille in the area that I grew up in, which was coincidentally a town also named Springfield. They even had salvaged a Simpsons display from the 2007 movie & used the characters on their menu
The late, great Robbie Coltrane and
@EricIdle
team up to become surprisingly convincing nuns in this great 90's caper comedy! Find out how George Harrison played a part in bringing this movie to life in my retrospective:
When doing research for my latest Munsters video, I stumbled upon this documentary short on Al Lewis, basically following him around during the early 90's as he traveled the country making personal appearances as "Grandpa". Fascinating guy.
Before directing the Lord of the Rings movies, Peter Jackson gave us a really great, overlooked film that makes for perfect viewing this time of year. It's The Frighteners:
After seeing the praise The Muppet Christmas Carol receives this time of year, I finally decided to check out Muppet Treasure Island. What a delight. Tim Curry was just fantastic — Billy Connolly as well. Why did they not make dozens of these Muppet classic lit adaptations?
DreamWorks Executive in 1998: "Let's take a series of buddy comedies from the 1940's, turn them into a dark fantasy animated film with songs from Elton John and market it to young boys. What could go wrong?" Well, here's what went wrong:
Illumination: We found a screenwriter for The Super Mario Bros. Movie that we’re really excited about!
Nintendo: Great! What else have they written?
Illumination: ….
Years before Pirates of the Caribbean & Jungle Cruise were made into giant blockbusters, Disney produced a small TV movie based on one of their most popular rides - Tower of Terror. Here's the story of how it came to be:
David Zaslav never actually watched ‘COYOTE VS ACME’ and is still intent on now deleting the movie.
Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy only saw a directors cut.

I hope this ends up like a repeat of Home Alone where Warner refused to give John Hughes an extra 2 million so he took it to Fox just weeks before filming was supposed to start
Warner Bros is reportedly now allowing the filmmakers of ‘Coyote vs. Acme’ shop the movie to other potential distributors after the backlash

There's been a lot of misinformation said about Joe Besser over the years and it's time to set the record straight. Here's a look back at final 16 Three Stooges shorts through the eyes of its shortest tenured, highly divisive member:
If you watch my content regularly, you'll know how important John Hughes was to me growing up. I wanted to present a definitive look at his life & career - showing the person he was through the characters he created and stories that he told:
