Because to them you are not actually Jewish, until they see you being actively so. Like it doesn’t “sink in” until they really see it for themselves. Then you see you observing kosher, negiah, tznius, etc and then things like this occur lol.

Secular born Jews have this happen to them too, where they don’t have issue with their goyim friends/relatives until they do even the slightest observance. As convert however there’s the unique having no familial support system to back you up that born Jews can have.😫
