From my initial search, Tweek's Game 5 win over MkLeo is the first time anybody has ever stopped MkLeo from completing a reverse 3-0 after he managed to bring the set back to 2-2. Leo had won the previous 11 times
Zomba's b-air hit rate by game during his losers run through KEN, Shuton and Kola. He hit just 2 of the 27 b-airs (7%) he attempted across the 3 Game 1s, but hit 34% of his b-airs in the Game 5s, including 5 for KOs. Adaptation.
Everybody knows the legend of Game 4
@Mkleosb
, but just how great is he with his back against the wall? The data shows Leo might be even better in clutch spots than you think:

Worth noting that this is likely one of many consequences of the FTX debacle since TSM also is dipping from Rainbow Six. Really sad but not unexpected w/ esports in the spot it is โน๏ธ
it looks like tama p daifuku, the bayo who just beat Tea, uses the HORI pad, a knockoff wired Switch Pro controller. I tried this controller for a couple weeks and had one of my worst tournaments ever lmao. I'm actually in shock. has anybody else EVER seen this at a tournament?
the streak remains alive for open events, but ProtoBanham just eliminated MkLeo at worse than 2nd for the first time at a major tournament since May 2019. absurd run
PGFact: MkLeo hasn't finished lower than 2nd at an offline tournament of at least 200 players since May 17th, 2019 at Get On My Level 2019, where he finished 4th.
This and more from MkLeo's player page:
there's a note here that the PGstats website is going down next year. two reasons not to be sad about that:
1) it's literally the same exact database as Smashdata
2) the Smashdata guys and others who actually made PGstats are working on
@smashersapp
which is gonna be way better
a look at Kill Efficiencies for Melee's top 6 characters: Jigglypuff and Falcon excel early, Fox excels late, Falco and Sheik are always playing catchup, and Marthritis is very real. Second image focuses on each character vs. the kill distribution for all characters
A friendly reminder that
#MSM
best of 5 occurs at Winner's Semis, Winner's Final, Loser's Semi, Loser's Final, and Grand Final
Also, the stage list will be the same since our return
if I were to (hypothetically) start an independent YouTube channel doing the kinds of Smash videos we made at PGstats would you (hypothetically) consider donating to a Patreon for it?
I have so many ideas, but they're nothing if I can't pay for editing/VO
A quick explainer on the Swiss format before we head into the first weekend of the RLCS 2021-22 season:
โก๏ธ Each round you play a team with the same win/loss record
โก๏ธ Three wins and you qualify for the eight-team, single-elimination bracket
โก๏ธ Three losses and you're knocked out
"Do top players really think like that" is a fun question tbh, because I think the answer is both yes and no; no, that's not Leo's internal dialogue as he up-airs, but go watch his Smash 4 Corrin and you'll see him running the same frame traps. it's a deeper kind of understanding
idk it's hard for me to take the fact that our coverage didn't exist 8 months ago and now other continents are mad at us for not covering them well enough as anything but a huge success
BREAKING: The U.S. Labor Department has issued a final rule that will force companies to treat more workers as employees rather than "independent contractors."
This will mean higher wages and overtime pay for millions of workers in gig jobs, health care, construction, and more.
Leo just set a new record! His one game dropped at the Ludwig Smash Invitational is the lowest ever at an Ultimate major with at least one bo5 set played (Leo played 8)
the history of flawless runs at major Ultimate brackets: we've never seen it at an event with this many bo5s. Nietono's flawless run at Umebura SP3 was all bo3.
Leo also joined the list of players to drop only 2 games at Rise N Grind (6 bo5 sets) after this was made
The ProtoBanham Switch Effect: If he uses the same character in consecutive games, the 2nd game goes on average 0.2 stocks worse for him than the 1st game. If he switches, the game with the new character goes on average 0.9 stocks better, a +1.1 stock swing
same here, I've been focused on regrouping with my team at PGstats and preparing for the future while we wait for answers. I appreciate everybody who's reached out
Apologies for my silence; I just haven't felt like I have anything meaningful to contribute personally while we wait for answers. My focus has been making sure Panda talent & staffโall of us blindsided by the SWT's cancelation and statementโfelt supported in this confusing time.
one of my first thoughts after Panda died was "I'm so happy I never have to work on another PGR ever again" and UltRank discourse has only reinforced this
working on a 2022 Ultimate Wrapped with the local map data, here's a preview: characters presented by total wins and player base size. ROB had the most wins and a huge player base; Joker's win total was underwhelming despite similar; Peach had by far the most wins per player
the full Ice Climbers timeline: Big D is the 6th player to finish Top 2 at a Smash major (defined by Liquipedia) with solo Ice Climbers, and his run to Grand Finals was the ninth ever
Dara clearly doesn't need defending from whatever the hell this is but I hired it for work at PGstats because of clearly demonstrated passion and knowledge for the game and I would do it again given the opportunity
This is the third time the true "Game 4 Leo" (goes down 2-0 then forces Game 4) has ever been stopped:
Marss, Smash Factor 8 Grand Finals (July 28, 2019)
ESAM, Glitch 8.5 Winners Quarterfinals (September 26, 2021)
ProtoBanham, Double Down Grand Finals (July 10, 2022)
the smashdata guys are working on a new project and even in beta it's looking amazing. I see lots of improvements we had planned for PGstats coming to life here, really exciting stuff. already the best way to follow an event live (pic 1 was grabbed 5 minutes ago)
I put together one last big post for

to end the year right: 2021 Ultimate Local Winners, Mapped & Wrapped: a big collection of infographics to define offline Smash Ultimate in 2021

Big news time: In March I became the Director of PGstats for Panda Global! I'm going to be taking on a number of stats content-focused tasks for

I'm incredibly excited to announce I'll be part of the Top 8 broadcast for Smash Ultimate at CEO 2022, serving as an analyst! the
@pgstats
team has been working for over two years on tools to enhance Smash broadcasts and I'm really excited to show you what we're putting together
the PGstats site was my vision and it hurts to see it go but also it only got like 20% of the way to what I had in mind and I'd rather see it die than make money for whatever is left of Panda. oh well. feels good to see how many people were grateful for it though
Call it El Diablo, call it the Zombair, call it whatever you want. ROB's back-air was lighting foes up all weekend at the Smash World Tour Championships courtesy ofย Zomba, the New York player who made a run all the way from the Last Chance Qualifier on Friday to a fourth place fi

I recognized this because I actually think this controller has one of the coolest things I've seen on a modern controller. you can take off the dpad and use the four buttons underneath it separately. far superior to the switch pro's dpad, which violates the Geneva Convention

developed a script that autodetects the last game of grand finals in a smash stream and outputs a timestamped VoD link. this matters to you because today it delivered us this beautiful moment of Italian Smash Bros Screaming:
longest losers run to top 16 at an S- or A-Tier level event is 12 by DIO at Umebura SP4; longest to win an event is 11 by Zackray (Umebura SP7) and MkLeo (Frostbite 2020). history will be made either way

while I absolutely want to make PGstats an international leader, when we started it was literally just me writing and
@BobbyWasabi
editing and
@devilmaycats
on thumbnails. we're not the only ones capable of this work! we're just the ones who showed there's an audience
most of what I accomplished in 2022 is in this playlist of videos I wrote for PGstats and Red Bull. I made some pretty cool stuff this year and you should hit my email (in the bio) if you want me to write cool stuff for you next year!
