My 16-month-old nephew is awaiting a heart transplant after suddenly falling ill and subsequently being diagnosed with a rare cardiovascular condition called Dilated Cardiomyopathy that affects 1 in 100,000 kids.
It should be noted that no one handles the big moments better than Ken and Mick. The silence during the video tribute for Kane and then the call on Kane's game winner.
Absolutely unbelievable broadcast team
i absolutely have to know who the person Gary Bettman is consulting on digital ad boards, the NHL playoff format, and fanatics apparel. This is just a bit too on the nose
There needs to be a collective effort from the NHL media to keep the pressure up on the league, not just Westhead and Strang. The NHL is in a grade-A shitstorm and this shouldn’t be allowed to just die down
We really gonna ignore Ovechkin scoring 65 in 82 and Stamkos scoring 60 in 82 in favor of someone scoring like this in a 56 game season?
Hell, Ovechkin scored at a 0.73 goals per game pace /between/ 2007-2010
Due to extraordinarily high demands on ticketing systems and insufficient remaining ticket inventory to meet that demand, tomorrow's public on-sale for Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour has been cancelled.
I gotta say..I can’t remember a game where the broadcast has brought on the rules analyst who says the refs on the field got it wrong 3 separate times all impacting the same team
My two cents on the Kane signing:
1. To start, I'm wary of anyone from the 2010 Hawks team that should have spoken up re: Kyle Beach + current John Doe/Brad Aldrich, particularly a leader on that team when it's been stated by multiple players that everyone knew
Love to focus on how McDavid needs to get better instead of how the front office needs to surround McDavid with a Fedorov, Lidstrom, Murphy, Coffey, Konstantinov, Hull, Robitaille, Shanahan, Datsyuk, Hasek, and Chelios
McGuire and the morning show guys on TSN1200 in Ottawa talking about perhaps it's time for the Oilers brass to have the "Scotty Bowman/Steve Yzerman" talk with McDavid, sacrificing some offence to play a more complete 200-ft game.

It's been 464 days since a goaltender other than Jonathan Bernier won a game for the Detroit Red Wings and I'm honestly afraid that it may never happen again
I'm disappointed in the direction The Athletic has taken with their hockey coverage. After starting out with intentions of being diverse in being and thought, there is one woman covering the beat of an NHL team.
This may be an unpopular opinion but I love this. “Be professional” too often means “be a robot” but I love the display of passion in a harmless back-and-forth. It’s sports, let’s not take ourselves too seriously here
Most saves by a Red Wings netminder in a shutout
1. Terry Sawchuk - 50 (11/14/1959)
2. Alex Nedeljkovic - 46 (4/14/2022)
3. Glenn Hall - 44 - (3/1/1956)
4. Alex Nedeljkovic - 43 (3/17/2022)
5. Petr Mrazek - 42 (2/4/2017)
Unpopular statement time from me:
- Steve Yzerman is not infallible as a GM
- It is ok to critically discuss his moves
- We don’t have to do mental gymnastics to explain how he’s playing 4D chess with some moves that don’t initially make sense

: Lemieux argued Tkachuk’s hand was punctured from punching Lemieux in the tooth.
Video evidence, postgame inspection and medical info from
#Sens
training staff was included in analysis.
Ruling was on first bite. Not conclusive on injury to Tkachuk’s right hand
I wanted to share an update that my nephew was successfully transplanted yesterday. He now begins his post-transplant recovery with the hopes of being able to leave the hospital in a couple of weeks. Thank you to everyone for your donations, words of support, kindness, and love.

Not that I think Yzerman would do it but these are the kinds of games where coaches lose their jobs
2 days rest, at home, against the worst team in the league, Vrána’s back, ARI’s 3rd leading scorer leaves after a shift…andddd you’re down a touchdown
I’m not sure there’s a more universally disliked person in hockey than Mike Babcock with the sheer volume of folks that chimed in with their disdain for him. Hopefully this is the last time we have to talk about him in hockey
Highest SV% in a conference final since the NHL went to a 16-team playoff (1979-80), min 4 GP
1. Giguere (2003): .992
2. Rask (2013): .985
3. Bobrovsky* (2023): .971
4. Irbe (2002): .962
5. Rask (2019): .956
Also appreciate everyone sharing their words of support for my work. Had a crisis in faith earlier in the year when I wasn’t sure I wanted to keep creating content with what felt like overwhelming negativity at times but yall made it worthwhile. Will try to keep it going
I think the Wings are entering the most dangerous part of their rebuild. Jump too early and you risk getting stuck in mediocrity. Wait too long and you risk wasting the primes of your best players. I think this is the phase that’s most difficult for NHL GMs to manage
Watching Lucas Raymond...I think his playmaking is the key to unlocking Dylan Larkin's scoring potential. I think not only does he need to make the opening night roster, I think he's got to be stapled to Larkin's wing
With 6 wks to go, the Wings had a ~75% chance to make the playoffs and couldnt hang on w/ Larkin’s injury and a late-season collapse
Still, you’ll take a 91 pt year w/ a meaningful game 82
Now the real challenge of improving this team when Raymond/Seider are no longer on ELC’s
Add another W and it's looking like the Wings will need ~20 points from their final 24 games (0.416 points percentage) to make the playoffs
If folks want, I will update this chart the day after each Wings' game
Just got off the phone with a former player of Lalonde's...couldn't say enough good things about Lalonde as a person and a motivator so it certainly seems like he will be a tremendous fit in Detroit
There are so many incredible stats in a given season but I have to think that this is the most spectacular of the early season:
Red Wings 5v5 GF/60: 1.81
Red Wings 5v4 GF/60: 1.80
Since entering the league in 2016-2017, Jakub Vrána ranks 2nd in 5v5 goals per 60 (minimum 2000 mins played or ~2 seasons)
1. Auston Matthews - 1.64
2. Jakub Vrána - 1.24
3. Alex Ovechkin - 1.24
4. David Pastrňák - 1.18
5. Andrew Mangiapane - 1.18
With his 20th goal of the season, Lucas Raymond becomes the 4th Red Wings rookie to hit 20 goals since 1990
1. Sergei Fedorov 31
2. Dylan Larkin 23
3. Henrik Zetterberg 22
4. Lucas Raymond 20*

Yes. We absolutely do not agree with such behavior in a professional athlete who, likely, is an idol for many children. Totally unacceptable. We know he's not the only one doing this. But share it on social media? He should be punished accordingly.
please stop retweeting the "nhl warns players following Griddy celebration" it's a literal nonstory based on Elliotte Friedman saying following the Morgan Rielly crosscheck, he'd expect the NHL to warn both teams not to "retaliate" for Walman hitting the Griddy
By request, I pulled all the game logs from 1979 on (first year game logs were available) from
@hockey_ref
and compared Alex Ovechkin's era-adjusted goal scoring rate to the other top era-adjusted scorers.
He's very much in a league of his own.
I strongly disagree with Bertuzzi's life choice to decline the COVID-19 vaccine. If there are others out there who are still contemplating the vaccine and are interested in an open discussion, my DM's are always open
Red Wings F Tyler Bertuzzi called it a "life choice" to refuse COVID-19 vaccine. Said he knows it means he can't play in Canada (9 games) but reiterated it's personal choice.
Yea I don’t have any words as we see a third sexual assault case emerge in just the past 7 days in hockey. Just tear the whole damn thing down at this point
In the last 30 years, the only Red Wings' rookie forwards to record more points than Jonatan Berggren through their first 27 games:
Lucas Raymond
Dylan Larkin
Dallas Drake
The kid is good
It’s been only 8 games but I think Blashill has earned some deserved praise here. Not much was expected of the Wings after learning of Vràna’s injury but he’s got this team playing fast, playing tough, and he’s put his 2 skilled rookies in excellent positions to succeed

Let's try again one more time (with a lot less love for Kovalchuk as i stop counting his 2010-2011 season 3 times) and look at Ovechkin's goal scoring rate relative to his contemporaries. The man is just unreal
