Honestly I wish we all could’ve seen Ryan Goslings face when he found out he was nominated and Margot Robbie wasn’t.
Bc that man understood the assignment, even if everyone else didn’t get the lesson.
The Simone Biles husband thing is an extreme example of what we already know.
Women can excel at the highest levels- transcend the highest levels. And some mediocre dude will say outloud his mere existence in a male dominated space is equal to or greater than her achievements.
Here’s the thing.
My generation spent our whole lives being told character matters, especially in leaders.
And then. Suddenly. It didn’t.
So. There is no avenue, to me, of trusting the people who disingenuously told us to believe in truth & then demanded we abandon it bc tactics.
Y’all. Let’s talk about Matthew Cuthbert.
Sees a child in need, unwanted & alone. Takes her in at physical and financial expense to himself. Instantly loves her. Gives her all the freedom to be fully herself. Is only ever gentle, kind & generous. Defends her. Praises her.
Goals.
This is correct. If we are investigated for a federal crime and the FBI gathers evidence, presents that evidence to the standard of probable cause to a judge, and the judge issues a warrant based on that evidence, the FBI indeed can execute that warrant in any one of our homes.
I will never ever get over the fact that the people who told us when we were kids (rightly) that Bill Clinton’s predatory sexual misconduct & lies were a disqualifying abuse of power+
Apparently, thousands of Romanians have been waiting in their personal vehicles to pick up
#refugees
at one of the NE borders with
#Ukraine
.
I'm not often elated at news from back home, but this makes my heart swell.
#StandWithUkriane

Yall. Making fun of someone with a speech impediment when they misspeak is not ok. Even if they are the president of the United States. Quit. Especially if you are a Christian.
Y’all. I wrapped myself in a tortilla blanket on my sister’s front porch and told everyone who mentioned it I was a frozen burrito. I’ve never made so many tween boys laugh.
I just do not get throwing away all your integrity for someone like Donald Trump. It is unfathomable. Particularly to watch someone who taught me that character matters more than anything do it over and over. I will never understand.
told us as adults that bragging about sexual assault is no big and then spent the better part of a decade excusing, ignoring, defending, and even praising every single worse & worse cruelty & crime, calling it righteousness and a Christian faithfulness.+
@tweetslikehoney
My best friend is an peds emergency medicine physician. She jokes a lot- privately. But I have never once in 17 years heard her joke about a child dying. Not once. And she would never publicly even hint at it. Never.
Then got mad at us for recognizing and not going along with the hypocrisy.
It revealed something that I refuse to look away from or pretend not to see.
Because I actually believed (and still do) what they taught me about character and integrity.
I can tell you the day I stopped being a Republican-October 11, 2016. I had seen the aftermath of the Access Hollywood tapes that didn’t disqualify a man already wholly unfit. And I was done. There had been lots of cracks, but that shattered my loyalty.
And man. I was not wrong.
When I was in high school a peer told me the coach I was closest to- more a friend than a coach- was preying on her friend.
I was an actual child. And immediately told adults who could/should stop it. Good adults- including other coaches- tried but law enforcement did nothing.+
One reason I warn so much about Sound of Freedom is not bc Jim Caviezel is into Qanon. It’s because making this movie several years ago was a HUGE catalyst of his descent into q-adjacent conspiracies into his current, fully pilled state. +
The absolute refusal of church people to wear masks, just for the sake of protecting the congregation or vulnerable family members, not to mention being good neighbors to their communities, is something I will never understand. It’s so small and easy. And still too much to ask.
The problem isn’t evangelical leaders saying DJT used them to get elected. We all know that’s true.
The problem is saying it like they didn’t call those of us who warned and told the truth the whole time the problem.
It’s the lack of reflection and honesty. That’s the problem.
A convention that ejects Fern Creek because of Pastor Linda’s decades of faithful service in the SBC better go ahead and take Lottie Moon’s name all the way out of its mouth forever.
You don’t get to use our work to raise money when we’re dead but exclude us while we’re alive.
WHYYYYYY is Andrew Garfield so so good at embodying the complicated faith/belief of the real people he plays? Mormon, Catholic, even Jonathan Larson & the kind of self belief/humanism struggle.
I mean I know he’s a good actor but there’s something deeper about it.
Yeah. It only “makes no sense” if you are completely ignorant of
1- Ballard and his history
2- Qanon and its mainstreaming into evangelical spaces
3- the long, slow work reputable anti-trafficking orgs do and how they’ve been negatively impacted by 1&2.
Gosh this is exhausting.
I’m not interested in a single dude talking about manhood & fatherhood & Christian ethics fighting for families or complementarianism or any of it
who does not move through the world like Matthew Cuthbert.
I didn’t see my 9yo before school today. I left early to sub in a different school with some other 9yos.
I cannot process this day.
We love rights more than life. And it is an affront to the God who gives us life.
Hey just a reminder before this ridiculous website implodes-
Covid is SARS-CoV-2. Not a cold, SARS.
It’s a viral Trojan horse for vascular damage, brain damage, heart damage, and immunological deficiency. Vaccines are not enough yet. Wearing a mask until they are is wisdom.
This is why so many of us no longer trust the institutions (political and religious) and leaders/public figures who shaped us as kids. We remember the 90s and we remember what you said.
I’m gonna be as succinct and clear as possible. An
#SBC
which cannot be in friendly cooperation with women who do not agree with them about their role. But CAN be cooperation with men who harass those and many other women is an abuse enabling system/culture. Period.
Well. We are 15min into
#SBC23
and people at the open mic have already been unnecessarily gross toward their female co-laborers, attacked KSP, and accused a survivor of slander WHILE she’s currently in surgery.
I can’t fathom why everyone outside the SBC thinks we suck.
Me: Writes a thread about how ontologically disqualifying women will inevitably lead to equating womanhood with sin.
SBC “reasonable” guy a few hours later: So listen. Here’s how being a woman is like sexual sin.
If you can shout “He is Risen” triumphantly & joyously, yay!
If you can only whisper, hoping through tears that some day soon joy really will come in the morning, “He is Risen” that is a victory over the grave too, even as you are still standing in the depths of it, beloved.
In Philadelphia there are more vacant, abandoned houses than there are people in need of housing. But there are thousands of people waiting for affordable housing, on a waiting list that can take years. One of my neighbors waited over 10 years… It doesn’t make sense.
So this
Here’s the thing about Jenna Ellis.
She did know. We all knew. It was all evident & public. She was an attorney in the inner circle. She CHOSE lies and called them true.
And has yet to take actual responsibility for her actions with Jesus’s name in her mouth the whole time.
I’m glad Roe & Casey were overturned. I think they are bad law, for a lot of reasons. I just wish it wasn’t preceded by much of the “pro-life movement” & Church doubling down on racism, supporting a dishonest egomaniac abuser, denying & exacerbating a pandemic, & idolizing guns.
If you would’ve told me 10 yes ago that the President whose lifetime intersected with mine I’d admire most would be Jimmy Carter I would’ve laughed, but for the mercy of his consistent life and (I hope) my growing wisdom. May God give comfort as he enters into His rest.
You better put some respect on Grace Lyons’s name sir.
That’s a 4yr (so far) OU starting shortstop, 2x (so far) Natty Champion, NCAA Woman of the Year nom, NCAA Softball PoY Finalist, US National Team Member you just called Michael Turk’s girlfriend.
Just a reminder. If seeing a woman in a sports context- any woman- “ruins” the experience for you, you don’t actually like sports. You just hate women.
I wanted to go to church today. I tried. But. I couldn’t. I can’t.
I spent so many years not wanting to be there or not feeling like I could. But doing it anyway, I had to.
Now I don’t have to. But I want to. And I just can’t. But I am believing that this too shall be made right.
Welp. The Falwell doc on hulu is throughly horrifying. Like even when you know how horrible it is, it’s impossible to be prepared for how horrible it is.
I’m just a girl
standing in front of the internet
asking pastors to care more
about Franklin Graham’s wholesale endorsement and aligning with
a thrice married philander
credibly accused of sexual assault
calling it a defense of Christian values+
It took a decade for authorities to finally stop him and put him in jail. A trail of young female athletes in a wake of victim blaming, loyalty, minimizing, and inaction.
How we react to our our team, our people, our loved ones’ actions shows what we really believe, who we are.+
Not bodies. Human people. 2 desperate souls. Precious lives that image God.
He and everyone in the gop calling evil like this good can shut up forever about pro-life or Christian values.
The two days after this was probably the most I’ve ever laughed bc of Twitter. What a time. I’ll never so succinctly or successfully capture the zeitgeist again. Never. Ever. Period.
The assumption I’m talking about a particular person/group in politics is understandable and not wrong but, also not correct. My trust has been broken pretty thoroughly and roundly- many of them personal more than anything. And I don’t think I’m alone in that.
Pastor- says something derogatory about civil Covid precautions.
Me: Hey bother, please hear how dismissive this sounds to medically vulnerable people about their safety and the priority for them to fully participate in the life of the Body.
Pastor: No.
I’m so tired.
A group of North Carolina residents who call themselves the “fluoride fighters” are convincing city leaders to ignore the testimony of medical professionals and ban fluoride in the county’s water system
“I don’t consent to adding fluoride to my water”
There’s part of the Resurrection story we often skip over. But I wanna stay on it a minute. The Angel tells the women “He is risen” but that’s not the whole message. Not only is He risen. He is risen JUST AS HE SAID.
“Just as she said” is an important part of the Good News. +
Pastor. I BEG you to hear how immunocompromised and other people are responding to the news of one of the last places there was ANY protection for them being removed before you post about how great flying without a mask is. PLEASE.
Vulnerable people hear you.
And it’s not good.
Them: If you’re fully vaccinated and vaccines work why are you still wearing a mask?
Me: 1- Because physicians & public health officials & business are asking us to.
2- Because I had a killer middle school math teacher and I understand percentages & exponential multiplication. +
Im sorry not sorry. It if you are a “pro-life” evangelical Christian- especially a Baptist this is the antithesis of your stated beliefs. It is anathema to to imago Dei, the Law, the Prophets, and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is anti-biblical, anti-dignity, anti-Christ.
So. What I’ve learned this week is that even though I have born out pro-life convictions in real life- literally, because I refuse to vote for any republicans currently bc character & democracy & integrity, I am less pro-life than someone who pays for abortions & lies about it.
Hey brothers. When you see dudes calling pastors/churches effeminate or woke, instead of defending “no they aren’t” it would be much more meaningful to explain why those things are not bad. Black church vernacular/social awareness and femininity are not insults.
Here’s the thing.
If we aren’t supposed to be the first to lay down our rights & our privileges & even our lives for the sake of others being set free and made whole- then what do we mean when we say being confirmed to the likeness of Christ?
Honestly. What?
Well friends. I asked you a few weeks ago to pray for me so I’d like to tell you now why and update.
A job I thought was certain for next school year fell through and I had to scramble to figure out what I was going to do.
Today I accepted an offer teaching pre-k full time!
I needed men with power to act to when I was in high school.
My coach’s victims needed them to act.
The young women at Baylor/Waco needed men in power to act.
Young women & survivors (et al) in the
@OU_Athletics
/ Norman community need it now.
We can get past 6-7 but not this.
@GilleyBraggcjoy
Who he loved and championed and empowered to be her best self- the girl he always saw- that he wouldn’t trade for a hundred boys. He never wanted a boy. He wanted her. The first unconditional love she ever knew.
Sometimes I wonder if pastors, leaders & church people generally who were dismissive or even hostile toward the pleas of disabled & immunocompromised people (& HCWs) during once in century pandemic will ever realize the harm done to vulnerable bodies & souls, or to our witness.
Y’all. The people losing it over DJT calling RD a name aren’t “finally seeing it.”
They’re not realizing anything.
They’ve always known exactly who he is.
This isn’t a shift. It’s a continuation. It’s proving out what’s been true the whole time- only their agenda/side matters.
This is the kind of statement everyone should be making. Addresses specific problems, admits specific failures, asks for specific forgiveness, makes specific commitments.
If you make staff sign a document that says they can’t talk about their former job in order to get their severance or other $, it doesn’t matter if you call it “we all love each other: best friends pact” or an NDA. It’s functionally the same. And a pastor lying about it is bad.
M*tt W*lsh, defender of Christianity, says Tom Cruise is absolutely right about *checks notes* deranged and dangerous Scientology dogma rooted in occultism, science fiction & megalomania.
Please talk to me more about the danger of CRT or women speaking or the media or whatever.
We know the sensationalized narratives of Ballard & OUR is a gateway to Q. Many of us have been paying attention. We watched it happen to him. And many others. Means matter. They shape ends.
It’s legitimately anti-Christ to blame a young woman for abuse that began when she was a child and call yourself a pastor. Full stop. For real, God have mercy on these men who call evil righteousness.
I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again. One reason we should have nothing to do with conspiracies- whether Q, deep state, vaccines, JFK assassination, flat earth, or what ever- is that it always, always, always ends up in anti-Semitism. Always.
For a long time I thought the biggest problem in the sbc was bad guys protecting their friends/selves at the expense of victims.
But. I think it’s actually the “good guys” who aren’t willing to do what it costs to do justice & righteousness- even if it cost their friends/selves.
In hs I was very very sick with endo.
In fact approx. 1 in 3 women will have some kind of menstrual disorder or other problems- many of them as teenagers.
That in itself is hugely traumatic & embarrassing, often filled with shame.
I love girls’ sports yall.
This. Ain’t. It.
@OU_Athletics
Addendum: to be clear. I’m not saying Briles on the sideline is the same as what my coach did or what happened at Baylor.
I’m saying those things don’t happen in a vacuum and building a culture of either accountability or abuse is in the “little” things. Trust is earned here.
My goodness.
Chapter 11 of
#AllMyKnottedUpLife
has just broken me.
I’ve said a long time Keith Moore is a hero. But. My gosh.
@BethMooreLPM
tell him thank you for saying yes to sharing the real true story for so so many who need to hear/read it.
Just remembered that a pastor I know posted on J6 about it being morally equivalent to the American Revolution and people I know and love irl getting mad at me for thinking that was a problem. I hate this. I hate what this had done to/revealed in my people.
@rcmogo
I’m pretty sure I haven’t said it not. In fact I’ve been actively talking about and working with anti-trafficking efforts for the better part of 2 decades. That’s WHY this issue matters. I know the facts. And what is sensationalized, counterproductive nonsense to feed one ego.
All I want is people who say they are pro-life and “speak for the vulnerable who cannot speak for themselves” to actually listen to the vulnerable who CAN speak & are begging for protection & care in a pandemic.
I thought that was not too much to ask. I was wrong.
@LLLOfTheRings
I mean. I definitely want to hear more about storytelling from a dude who constantly writes sexualized violence against female characters. That’s someone who understands self-sacrificial power wielded for good.
I’m sorry y’all. I just. “I really don’t want to but have to respond to this bc I shut her down privately and now she’s telling you publicly without my permission how to speak about her own work & experience and trying to ruin good men” thread from last night was awful. And
I will never forget the pastors, politicians, & other evangelical leaders who minimized or even embraced/encouraged the Qanonification of our churches, communities, institutions, & neighbors. Never. J6 is only 1 of many consequences. As far as I’m concerned it’s disqualifying.
Y’all. I’ve got some stuff to say.
I teach pre-k right now. And one of the most important lessons we are always learning is responsibility FOR OURSELVES.
Here’s the thing. We cannot be responsible for other people.
We can be responsible TO them. For how we behave toward them.+
