Today my students are determining the amount of this dextromethorphan (DM) in cough syrup 😷 DM is typically used as a cough suppressant. DM is naturally fluorescent so they will be using fluorometry 🔦 to determine the concentration in these commercial cough syrups #chemed

6 years ago I was failing chemistry courses. I was struggling with my decision to pursue Chem & wondering if everyone was right about me not being able to do this. Today, I’m in my PhD, published over 5 academic papers, and even won a few scholarships & awards for my research 😊

Taught my first in-person lab today since the pandemic started! The students were using CV to determine the amount of acetaminophen in cough syrup. The Ac is irreversible at these potentials, so only the oxidation is observed. So cool! My favourite lab this semester 😎 #chemed

One of the absolute WORST thing about being a postdoc is the registration prices for us to now attend conferences💀It is so wild to pay over $700 in this economy to attend some of these with no travel grant options from the organizers for us too.

Finished another manuscript draft. This is like the 3rd one in under 2 weeks 😴 I’m really impressed with myself because I HATE writing and find it so difficult to sit at a 💻 all day. I’m definitely an “in the lab” person. PS can you tell I’m trying to finish my PhD 😂 #PhDLife
