I think we have to recognize that this is a win even if it isn’t what we fully wanted — the recognition that the accusation of genocide cannot be dismissed matters in a desert of justice. I’ve seen Gazans on here celebrating. Let’s take that into consideration in our critique.

5/6 I’m also thankful @POTUS did not heed calls for an immediate ceasefire weeks ago, as Israel could not have achieved this breakthrough had one occurred. A unilateral ceasefire only serves Hamas terrorists, who broke a ceasefire on Oct. 7th - and vow to do so again and again.

Palestine is diverse as is Palestinian resistance. It has been Arab socialist & Marxist, it has had Christian leadership, it has been secular & Islamist. Hamas does not begin Palestinian resistance nor does the resistance end with them. It ends only with a free Palestine.

In the United States we also see this in discourse around race. Enslavement becomes about bad whites, rather than a story of exploitation, colonialism, and white supremacy. Jim Crow becomes about a bad law, rather than an attempt to systematically disenfranchise people. 4/

Today is the 13th anniversary of January 25th (the day we believed we toppled the regime). I can still feel the rush I felt in my chest. Regardless of what came next, those weeks happened & are testament to the power of people to face fear and demand more. I will always remember.
