On February 27, I travelled to Egypt to organise my family evacuation out of Gaza. I am relieved to share that 8 family members have made it out of Gaza safe. My parents, 4 siblings, sister in law and nephew are in Cairo now.
The last time I spoke with my family was yesterday. I managed to have a short conversation with both my parents. It was about 5 minutes in length. My mom said she had to cut it short because she "only has 3% left in her phone battery". This is what my mom told me then.
it is now confirmed. gaza is cut off from the rest of the world. full communication and internet blackout. i tried to call my family several times today. the last time i tried, i got an automated message that said, 'all connection with gaza has now been cut off'. ceasefire. now.
My family whatsApp group is suddenly filled with questions about loud sounds heard in parts of Gaza. And it is now confirmed. Israeli forces are bombing Gaza. It took the new Israeli PM 48 hours to take a decision to do this. Our families have not healed yet.
I reached my sister. She was in tears and can hardly speak. She tried to leave the area. But she is trapped. When they tried to evacuate, Israel targeted them along with others trying to flee (1)
In Gaza, PTSD is non-existent.
It is not post-traumatic. It is chronically traumatic. The trauma is constant and relentless. It is "repetitive, ongoing and continuous", quoting the Palestine's Head of Mental Health Services Dr Samah Jabr.
As a Palestinian, I ask you to focus on political actions. Your donations will not enter Gaza now. Mobilise, write, share, have conversations, speak up, organise, and push for an end to this mass killing of civilians. This should be the focus now, not your donations please 🙏🏽
Israel killed at least 1200 Palestinians in Gaza today. 1200 people killed in less than 24 hours. 1200. Read this number again. The Israeli attacks are constant as I write this. Our hearts are shattered. There are no words left.
Two children died of hunger in northern Gaza today. People are forced to eat tree leaves to survive. No clean water available at all. No fuel at all. Hardly any basic needs to live a dignified life. Ceasefire now 🙏🏽
First, my mom talked about an "unprecedented level and magnitude of Israeli air strikes". She described them as "absolute horrors". She relayed to me that people in Gaza feel abandoned by the world. I don't blame them. All our actions have not been enough to end this madness.
The Palestinian people in Gaza have said it loud and clear: what we are doing in solidarity is not enough. We need to protest every single day. We need to lobby every single day. They need your power. They need you to keep your actions up. They urgently need a

I don’t think we can recover from the trauma of last night. I was shaking with fear. My body joints hurt this morning. Most my family lives in Rafah, displaced with very little basics. I woke up and managed to speak with my parents who are both traumatised to the core.
My mom said that my family hardly had any food left. All that they had for breakfast was dried herbs on bread. Our youngest family member is a few months old. My family really struggles to take care of him.
Hind, 7, is a Palestinian girl who has been trapped inside a car with six dead bodies of her family. The car is in an empty street, filled with Israeli tanks and snipers, to the south of Gaza.
My sister just messaged me to say that Israel is carrying out summary executions of unarmed men in northern Gaza inside their homes. They force their families and children to watch the executions. They then let the women and children flee the scene. Ceasefire. Now.
This is the worst possible nightmare. I appreciate every single one of you for trying to peacefully stop this constant indiscriminate killing of civilians. But this is not enough.
Every Ramadan in Palestine, Israeli forces storm the most sacred mosque for Muslims in the holiest month of the year. Every year, they shoot to maim. They have specifically targeted worshippers’ eyes recently. 13 Palestinians lost eyes last year to Israeli bullets.
My sister just messaged me: “once this war is over, I’ll do the English test necessary to apply for a masters degree in the UK. I want to focus my research on women needs during wars because our needs have been fully neglected. There aren’t even painkillers for period pains”.
This is the Palestinian village of Lifta. Israeli forces ethnically cleansed it in 1948. Now, they are planning to demolish it to build Israeli housing units.
I really wish this ceasefire last beyond Monday. I want every single human being to live in peace. I want my family and loved ones to live in a happy, healthy, and safe life. I want them to have drinkable water, fresh clean air, food of their choice. I want them happy.
I’m in Glasgow for the Gaza national protest, calling for an immediate ceasefire. And I just walked past this picture of my three beautiful cousins, killed by Israel. I almost burst into tears. Ceasefire now.
My family just managed to evacuate. My little brother was the last one to find his way out. While looking for an empty car seat to carry him, he came across an elderly woman, unable to walk and hardly breathing. He carried her with his friend.
I received the news this morning that Israel killed my first cousin while walking with his son in their residential street. He was killed in a drone missile which halved his body into two. His son was very close by. The trauma is unimaginable.
My mom and both my sisters have fever, with dry throats and general fatigue. They cannot access any medical care. My dad had to go around the 4-miles neighbourhood yesterday in search of any helpful herbs that could help my family. He found dried thyme.
Four days in Germany, and I am on my way back to the UK. I am not sure where to start but the racism I experienced there is open and terrifying that I almost had tears multiple times.
The news from Gaza tonight are so hard to read. Increased violence. Real starvation in the north. Extreme cold throughout. And people live in makeshift tents. Hardly any drinking water. Even canned food isn’t available anymore in northern Gaza. We are exhausted. Ceasefire now.
Earlier today, I was told by family that my cousin was one of the men stripped naked by Israeli forces in northern Gaza. He could not bear the extreme cold and died on the spot. He was killed while displaced in a school, while feeling cold and possibly hungry and thirsty.
“We saw death in our own eyes. We saw bombs falling in front of us. Tank shelling. Apache fire. We ran from one street into another. Please appeal to the world that we really need a ceasefire. Please pray for us. We are terrified”, my sister said while crying (2)
Another account from Gaza (posted an hour ago). The message reads, “I’m talking to you from Gaza. We are being annihilated. We are disconnected from the world around us. Don’t abandon us. Don’t leave us on our own”, Mohammed, Gaza.
now confirmed again. gaza is cut off from the rest of the world. full communication and internet blackout. i tried to call my family several times today. the last times i tried, i got an automated message that said, 'all connection with gaza has now been cut off'. ceasefire. now.
All eyes on Sheikh Jarrah. Horrible horrible Israeli attacks on the families while in their own homes now. Rubber bullets, stun grenades, and physical attacks. Injuries reported. Things are really bad
#SaveSheikhJarrah
Around 3:00 this morning, there was some quiet in Gaza. I managed to get some sleep. I woke up to my sister's message, "they caught us by surprise. very heavy airstrikes now". They destroyed the biggest bookshop and main publishing house of Samir Mansour. I'm shattered.
Israel killed my cousin, her husband, and their children. I will remember her as a smart young woman. She was a math teacher who cared so much about her students. She was kind, respectful, and down to earth.
Please stop with the fundraising campaigns for Gaza. We need all your collective efforts now to demand an immediate ceasefire. We need your power not your pity. We need your power not your money. Please focus on political actions, lobby, speak up, write, contact your rep. etc.
We once had a home in Gaza. My dad built it from scratch. He saved every penny. He designed it to ensure there is a garden, plenty of light, and lots of space. We once had a land, with +50 olive trees, various plants of veggies and fruits, and more sheep, rabbits, and lambs.
My family WhatsApp group is suddenly about possible Israeli full-scale aggression. People in Gaza are heading to shops to buy essentials. Meetings are canceled from diaries. Constant trauma. Every single Ramadan, Israel's violence intensifies.
“The word ‘catastrophic’ doesn’t capture the reality in Gaza anymore. Tons of explosives fall on us day and night. We have experienced all forms of loss. We no longer know the sky of our city”. (1/2)
Many of you want to donate to Gaza. And as a Palestinian from Gaza, I ask you to focus on political actions. Demand an immediate ceasefire. Israel killed 700 Palestinians in 24 hrs in Gaza. This madness must stop. Speak up. Protest. Educate. Write. Organise. Don’t feel helpless.
In case you have not been following, hundreds of Palestinians in Gaza protested the continuation of Israeli siege today. Israeli soldiers started shooting at them. 24 civilians injured. And now Israeli airstrikes are heard in different parts of Gaza.
400 Palestinians killed in one Israeli airstrike. 400 in one hit. And the world still debates whether we deserve a ceasefire. The desensitisation to Palestinians and their everyday struggles is terrifying.
Please do get us a ceasefire now. Please organize the largest protests ever and get us a ceasefire now. Please put more and more pressure (especially on the US) to get us a ceasefire now. The situation is too bleak. Too dire. We need a ceasefire now!
Rafah is under heavy Israeli attacks, unlike ever before. Friends and family there have been pleading for help. And here we all are doing absolutely nothing beyond social media posts, weekly protests & letters to MPs. This world is unjust. This is wrong. Please end this madness.
There is a video proof of dead Palestinian babies being pulled out the rubble in Gaza all over social media. Proof *with videos*, not even pictures or written statement. And not a single mention in western media (or in the front cover of British newspapers).
Israel is attacking Rafah, a small city of 151 km² to the very south of Gaza, hosting at least 1.5 million Palestinians, most of whom are internally displaced. The attacks are non-stop.
In every single English interview I have watched with Palestinians so far, there is an obsession with the 'do you condemn' question. Israelis are never asked this question on the other hand.
And more than 9 years later, I reunited with my parents yesterday in London. I last saw them in September 2013. They made their way out of Gaza a week ago. It is hard to put my feelings in words. I am relieved and grateful.
so now every single university in gaza is either damaged or destroyed but not a single statement from ‘global north’ universities or book publishers about that? like your ‘diversity and inclusion’ is more of a myth of some sort? like our universities just don’t matter much?
My brother asked around how much it would cost him to leave Gaza to Egypt and was told by a coordinator he'd have to pay $10,000 for each individual family member above 13 yrs old. Not only are our loved ones facing hunger, dehydration, & uncertainties but also this exploitation.
Israel isn’t attacking one residential building every few minutes anymore. They just carpet-bombed two entire neighbourhood, one in the south and another in the centre. People are screaming for help from under the rubble. The situation is beyond beyond catastrophic.
TW: graphic video. If there was one video to watch today, let it be this one if you can. My heart aches. There is not a single word in the English dictionary that can describe this. We need a ceasefire now. We need your power to stop this mass killing of civilians in Gaza.
Your prayers are not enough. Your thoughts are not enough. Your donations aren’t enough (+ it’s not its time). As a Palestinian from Gaza, I ask for your power (not your pity). I ask you to join political actions. To protest. To raise awareness. To speak up. To write. To organise
Gaza is being obliterated while the UN is debating a ceasefire and while world leaders are taking their time in pushing for some peace and justice on the ground. Gaza is cut off from the world now. No idea what our loved ones are going through.
Israel killed 70 members of one family today. 70 members of the Deeb family have been wiped off the civil registration record by Israel. All in one Israeli airstrike. The Israeli attacks have only been getting more violent. Ceasefire now.
Woke up on rare news from Palestine: 6 Palestinian political prisoners escaped a high-security Israeli jail through a tunnel which they may have been digging over the course of months, if not years.
Looks like a sit-in just started in the largest train station in Edinburgh. Everyone is chanting
#ceasefirenow
. There are many thousands of protesters here.
Israel is done with Gaza for now. It turned to Nablus this morning and killed 3 Palestinians. Just like this. And the news will not even make it to international media. Pure desensitisation to Palestinian suffering.
I don’t think people understand the urgency of the situation in Gaza. Residential buildings are destroyed on top of residents. Healthcare system falling apart. Our families are thirsty, hungry, and terrified. 17 days of absolute horror. How long more before a ceasefire?
Our families are not used to being humiliated. In all my life in Gaza, I’ve not come across any homeless person or family. No one would sleep hungry or thirsty. Our community values protect every one of us. To see our loved ones homeless, hungry, and thirsty is heartbreaking.
I hope people stop asking me how I am managing or how come I am still smiling. We are not okay. We are not managing. Smiling does not mean we are okay. Please get us an immediate ceasefire. We are exhausted.
I have never felt this helpless. The Israeli attacks on Gaza have increased last night. Entire neighbourhoods wiped out. I couldn’t recognise my birthplace where I spent all my life in Gaza. And to add insult to injury, Israel cut off all communications today. I’m lost for words
Please don’t stop talking about the people of Gaza. Keep posting, talking, having conversations, educating, protesting, lobbying to get us a ceasefire. We are going through the most difficult period in our lifetime. Things on the ground are too hard to describe. Ceasefire now.
Today, Israel killed 109 members of Doghmosh family. You’ve read that right. 109 family members killed, wiped off the civil registration record in Gaza. Words fail me. Your actions matter. We need an immediate ceasefire.
Three of the children in this picture are my cousin’s children: Maryam, Yamin, and Ahmed. My heart is shattered. Every child everywhere must be protected.
Our loved ones in Gaza are literally being starved. They cannot leave Gaza. They don’t know where to go. How or what to feed the kids in the family. No hygiene products. Our sisters have no menstrual products. The situation is beyond catastrophic. We need an immediate ceasefire.
Woke up to my young sister's WhatsApp message, "Please keep us in your prayers". And of course, this often means Israeli violence in Gaza. But this time, it has been the most unexpected thing I have seen in my lifetime. And I fear for what comes next.
In her conversation with the Red Crescent team, Hind repeatedly said, “please come take me. I am scared”. It is 22:07 in Gaza. If Hind is still alive, she is probably still in the car surrounded by Israeli snipers and is struggling with hunger, thirst and unimaginable fear.
Heartbreaking to wake up to another first cousin killed by Israel. Hamada was a very kind soul. We grew up together in the same street. I remember him as a truly humble, kind & hardworking family man. This heart cannot handle more heartbreaks. Get us an immediate ceasefire now 🙏🏼
Israel is attacking Gaza now from the sky. My family WhatsApp group reports an explosion after another. My sister wrote, ‘they are so loud, similar to the ones Israel used against us in 2021’. Our families haven’t yet recovered. The trauma is constant.
They called back and Hind, the only survivor, responded and counted 6 dead bodies around her. The Red Crescent sent a team to try to rescue Hind. 48 hours later, we do not know whether Hind or the Red Crescent team has survived.
In the early 1970s, Palestinian prisoners wrote a letter to Angela Davis. It was smuggled out of an Israeli prison, then given to someone who brought it to the US & gave it to someone who smuggled it to Angela in prison. Have you come across similar stories of prison solidarity?
They were just chanting "death to Arab" in Jerusalem and finished the day with brutalising a besieged traumatised population with military airplanes in the middle of the night. Is there a word in the English dictionary to describe this colonial brutality?
My mom then told me, “but we had to find a way to light a fire to make a cup of herbal tea.” Remember this next time you watch an Israeli official saying “Israel is trying to protect civilians”.
