Power structures in German academia are a real problem. It doesn't need to be that way. E.g., in Sweden, your supervisor is not your boss (you are employed by the department), you can change supervisors if it doesn't work, & the s. is not part of your dissertation committee.

In gothenburg, we had the tradition of a "grillning" (?) before a PhD defense, which meant we would ask the candidate the most complicated, meanest questions the committee may think of (in Germany we call this "normal feedback")

When I am a reviewer, I frequently ask authors to explain what a certain interaction effect in a complex longitudinal model exactly means. In the revision, the interaction effect is typically deleted from the analysis 🤷‍♂️

Was mich am Diskurs zu psych. Gesundheit stört ist, dass alle psych. Erkrankungen immer als chronisch geframet werden? Die gibt es natürlich, aber ich kenne verschiedene Leute die hatten eine depr. Episode oder eine Angststörung, hatten Therapie und dann war es weg.

The best cure for loneliness is not more frequent interaction. It's more meaningful interaction. Many people enjoy solitude. They can spend up to ~75% of their time alone without feeling isolated. What matters most for well-being is the quality of connections, not the quantity.
