Long thread. Interesting topic. 1) It's never been cheaper to equip yourself with gear compared to when I started (esp. taking inflation into account) 2) What *is* a 'decent sample library'? I've heard mockups with cheap sample libraries that sound incredible & vice versa.

@tha_rami Majority of orchestral soundtrack recordings are sight-read (players have never seen music before) by players on the day. No rehearsal, just straight into takes & then if time -doing spot-fixes on small sections of the piece. Always amazed how 70+ players can make that happen.

I remember when I started doing music that it was nigh impossible to do significant work on the road. Now with powerful laptops, external SSDs and USB-C, as well as super portable controllers, you can get a fairly robust setup while travelling that can fit in a backpack.
