This week 38 years ago my mam was making costumes for my two brothers when she got the call from the hospital. 38 years ago this week is when I was diagnosed with CF with a life expectancy of 10 years. Last week I blew my highest ever lung function of 101%. #BeatCF

We are sub 3 marathoners! 2.55.27 (15min PB for me) and 2.59.58 for @bredareynolds which was a 12 min PB. The European record for fastest person with CF is 2.59.42. While my time isn’t official because it wasn’t chipped timing, I’m delighted I know I can run faster. #BeatCF

A special shout goes to Robert Martin for a very obvious reason. He has Cystic Fibrosiw. He has PB’d in every distance from 5k up to a marathon since March. He became the 2nd fastest European person with CF today with a 2.57. #BeatCF

The aim was to get some solid training in and run a sub 20min 5k. Harry smashed that and ran 19.08. Not bad for a 12 year old, and a 12 year old who is beating CF. Another person who is breaking the stigma of CF! #BeatCF @cf_ireland @StCocas

I was nearly 6 years seizure free. On Tuesday I was walking my dog & woke up in an ambulance. My dogs weren’t on leash but they stayed by my side (I was in a ditch) and barked until someone came! Legends. I’m much better now. I’m just taking time to recover as quick as possible

Apparently the national 10k (Great Ireland Run) is the National 8km. The runners were sent the wrong way and now there will be no national prizes given out.

I’ve finally done it. My highest lung function in my 32 yr alive. I’ve now joined 90% club. At an age where I should be declining, I’m doing what my parents have always said “we are winning”, and it’s by doing what my t shirt says “RUN”. Couldn’t be happier about this! #BeatCF

34 years ago. 5 months old & diagnosed with a life sentence disease called Cystic Fibrosis. Kaftrio, a life changing drug has been approved by the EMA. This means a longer and healthier life for people with the strain of CF. I hope to be on Kaftrio before the end of the year.

Dublin Marathon 2019 - 4.15. Solo marathon today - 3.35! Myself and Liam started working together 4 months ago with the aim of sub 4. 2 months into it I suggested sub 3.45. 4 weeks ago it was then sub 3.40! He ended up having to get a Covid test during the week and still PB’d!

I dreaded going out for that 20 miler. No motivation to do it. You’ll be left behind if you are waiting for motivation to come. I got it done and I loved it. 20 mile (32km) 7:17 per mile (4:32 per km) HR - 138bpm Last 3 miles - 6.19, 6.20, 6.07 (3:55, 3:56, 3:48)

A 59 minute PB. 4.38 to 3.39. The goal was actually to break 3.40 as mad as it sounds. I’m not sure Aoife believed me until she PB’d in every distance leading up this and pointed towards running sub 3:40. Love when plans are executed.

Have a look at the @dublinmarathon course profile. 5 main hills that you need to stay disciplined and controlled. My main tip for this course is that if you are ahead of pace at Castleknock then you’ve gone off too fast. Aim to be on pace by KCR round about.

Great widget for your @Garmin . A @parkrunIE app that has your barcode on it. I was only talking about race numbers and how we could make racing a bit greener by using a more sustainable source of getting results. A widget/reusable wristband is ideal.

24 Miler Solo Run 210g of carbs in the form of @precisionfandh . Took something every 20 minutes. 2.55 pace for a marathon. I based my run on heart rate and didn’t go near what my HR is in a marathon (10-15 beats under) 54 miles done this week so far and will top out around 65.

Trim 10 Mile. 58.38 and 28th overall. Trim is on tectonic plates. The hills have grown in 2 years. I went out with a plan but that plan didn’t transpire. You get days like that. Everything seems forced and you just can’t get into a rhythm. C’est la vie. #BeatCF

Ready for the 20 miler (32km) tomorrow. The @precisionfandh is a game changer. 90g of carbs is nearly the equivalent of 4 High 5 gels. So over a marathon you probably need 2 pouches. I got mine from @SPUNCycles PS The Squashies are essential.

I’ve decided to pull out of Valencia Marathon at the start of December. Since Ratoath Half, I just haven’t been right. I’d be able to get one or two, possibly three days consistency and then just bonk. Even if it was just 3 days of normal running.

Another PB for Sharon!! She’s actually the person who I’ve been coaching the longest. Last year we made a big switch in training to see how it would work out. She is now a 3.22 marathoner and a proud Guinness consumer! 13th in her age & top 100th women in the Manchester Marathon.

Taper Time has begun. 15 weeks of marathon training done! Yesterday was the last and hardest run which was 17 miles at marathon pace and heart rate (2.46 pace). Wanted to do longer then 1 mile warm up but parking situation before the race wasn’t ideal.

24 mile (39km) run done in -6 degree Celsius. A slower then usual run as I was being careful on the roads. 7.44 avg per mile (4.48 per KM). Fluffy socks and Ugg slippers are a must today. I also need to defrost my beard. #BeatCF

34 miles (54km) a week average this year. Cant be mad at a 1.19.20 half marathon. Thought I’d scrape a sub 1.19 but it wasn’t to be. Happy with the sub 1.20. I try lead by example. No matter what, give it your all regardless of time. I don’t think I’d have ran any faster today.

We are all guilty of doing tempos on perfectly flat areas so that our average looks great. While it looks good, you’d get a better bang for your buck if you incorporate hills on the route. You need to work on effort and not pace when it comes to the hillier routes.

Hardest race of my life. It was going ok until it wasn’t. I was on course for a 1.18 up until 8.5 miles. My HR was ok but all of a sudden it jumped to 182 (my max is 189). It was survival mode at that stage

“You should give up those smokes” “That’s a nasty cough. Do you have a cold or something” These are things I hear from strangers at the end of a run. They don’t about my CF & why would they. Not every disability is visible. I do what I do so that my CF doesnt become visible.

A 68% PB rate from my coaching group in @dublinmarathon and Frankfurt. Not sure how given it was 24 degrees in Frankfurt and 14/15 in Dublin with a ridiculous humidity %. Not ideal PB conditions. #happycoach

The rate of infection isn’t slowing, & the ones most infected are between 15-34 (because of socialising) at what stage can we do a lockdown. The sooner that happens the quicker its eradicated. As someone with CF & self employed, Id welcome a lockdown. @SimonHarrisTD @LeoVaradkar

35.52 for 10km today. This 10km strong effort was planned for later in the week. I was thinking that the extra few days of recover would have been better given the Trim 10 mile is the following weekend. I was going on HR which was 159. I’m convinced my strap isn’t working tho 😅

Doing a marathon tomorrow in training as part of my marathon block (5 weeks left) The nutrition goal is 30g every 20 minutes. Pace is not the objective tomorrow. It’s just about getting the distance done & getting more used to consuming 90g of carb an hour. @precisionfandh

There we are now. 17 miles at marathon pace. I went through the half in 1.23.16. So 2.46 for a full. If only its that easy. On the plus side, I never felt out of control or that I was reaching for the line.

The last 4 months have been worrying.The idea of ending up in hospital was sitting in my head. It motivated me even more to do what I can to keep the lungs clear. Today I ran the @dunboyneac 6k trail race and finished 13th in a time of 22.30. I’m delighted to be back running.

2017 I ran 933 miles. 2018 I ran 1,201.5 miles. I’ve done some sort of cardio 325 days this year. I’ve climbed the height of Everest 1.67 times (all by running). Not bad for someone who should be dead 😂 #BeatCF

Ireland must be the powerhouse when it comes to masters athletics. I think there must be over 10 medals won so far (individual and teams) and still a few more days to go. We are on top of the medal table anyway. @irishathletics

Week 1 of 18. Marathon block has commenced. 3x2 mile at marathon HR. I averaged sub 6 per mile (3.43 KM). Im not saying I will do that for a whole marathon but it’s a good starting point. It was all on the new Greenway just north of Navan. Rolling hills and on cinder/gravel.

Jingle Bells 5k 23 years ago. Today I ran 16.48. Not overly happy with it. No real reason. Just couldn’t get into it and it felt hard from the start. I didn’t blow up. Fairly even splits. 3.22, 3.21, 3.21, 3.18, 3.22 Just one of those days really. Onwards.

I start Kaftrio tomorrow!!!!!! I’m excited and a bit nervous. Not even sure why I’m nervous. Maybe because the CF symptoms I have have been there since birth. Changing what I’m used to I suppose. #BeatCF
