@RM_Transit @GdParisExpress @IDFmobilites @AlstomFrance @Siemens_France Amazing video on the new trains! I find quite ironic (but also very frustrating) that you were invited in France, a foreign country on the other side of the planet, but not in Toronto for the crosstown conference. Metrolinx should have more consideration for local creators.

The new stations are engineering masterpieces, La Defense in particular was actually built under an active mall without causing any disruption. Those pillars are 15m tall, the island platform is 25m wide and trains are 225m long (equivalent to 10-car Chinese type A trains)

@JRUrbaneNetwork Calling "poor economic choices" things the US is incapable of building is the most American thing ever lmao. There’s so much jealousy among some of them, but I don't blame them tbh, seeing new metro lines opening every single week in Europe & Asia must be very frustrating…

The line will operate at high speeds and up to 90 seconds frequencies. It will be another iteration of the high speed metro lines trend that started to flourish across Europe and Asia since the early 2020s, in cities like Guangzhou, Chengdu, Seoul, Paris or Istanbul.

High-speed metro lines started operating in East Asia in the early 2020s and are now coming to Europe, most notably in Paris and Istanbul, with other cities planning some too. When most places in a city are served by public transit, they focus on the next step: express routes.

Power China will build the tunnels and the station boxes, Alstom & Egis Rail will do the electrification, full-height PSDs, driverless signaling system, station equipments and build the trains. By using their experience, they can keep the costs low (<€100M/km).

@RM_Transit @karlschubo People often think that Germany has the best roads because of its car culture/industry, in reality, countries that are less car-oriented like Switzerland or the Netherlands have better roads! And trams in France or Germany feel even smoother than the buses! Enjoy your trip!

@JRUrbaneNetwork @Lostpolitik94 And countries like South Korea, France or Spain manage to build metros at the same cost as China, sometimes even cheaper. These countries have relatively high wages as well as stricter health, safety and work laws than the US. So the initial argument is completely wrong.

@ChittiMarco I mean, let's acknowledge that it's quite an accomplishment to make the street look worse than before the LRT. I'm not sure if cities outside of North America would be able to do that as effectively. 💀

Similar to China, France, South Korea, and Spain, Turkey has developed such state capacity that it can handle massive, high-quality infrastructure projects at low costs. What do you think the US can learn from Istanbul's metro development?

@RM_Transit Fair, but these stations are going to be way more impactful than the numerous 400m-spaced out stations of the legacy network; they really cannot be compared. One GPX station is roughly equivalent to maybe three legacy stations, both in terms of architecture and daily passengers

I mentioned M11, which was Europe’s first high-speed metro line, running at up to 120 km/h / 75 mph. Istanbul is currently working on a much larger project: M34 (HızRay), a 74.5 km/46 mi fully underground high-speed line that will connect east and west Istanbul. Cost: €4 billion

@JRUrbaneNetwork @Lostpolitik94 North America just doesn’t have the required state capacity, so the projects costs naturally balloon. PPPs cannot fix this, they’re gonna be 10x more expensive than their European & Asian counterparts.
