At the age of 16, I walked into Bennett menswear in Bethnal Green & asked for a job. Les & Joyce Bennett change my life, they paid for me to go to drama school. We lost Les 14 years ago but we celebrated Joyce’s 10O birthday today. Love you Joyce, with all my heart. ❤️🙏

My Mum, Anna Thomas. passed away Saturday morning surrounded by the love of her children, grandchildren and great grandchild. She was happy and content because she knew we were alright. She looked beautiful until the end. You couldn’t ask for more.

Just out of drama school I saw a production of 3 Sisters. A young actor playing Tuzenbach, did the monologue before the duel. I’d heard it every week at DS. But when he did it, I forgot I’d heard it before. He went on to be one of our greatest actors. RIP Paul Ritter.

I was given free school meals after my parents divorce. There were some low lives on our estate ( a minority) who’d squander any help you gave them. But their children became successful artists, teachers & entrepreneurs. Kids represent our future & they’re our responsibility.

No, I went to school with around 500 boys & none of them felt safe enough to come out as gay either, which I think is appalling. I’m now a father of 4 teenagers & their attitude to fluidity in sexuality & gender is wonderfully open & accepting. I’m learning so much from them.

In my opinion the gender debate is a really complex conundrum but on social media people mistake winning an argument for finding a solution. In reality the 1st step to finding a solution to a complex problem is to see both sides of the argument & that takes kindness & civility.

Half my family voted leave. The problems that prompted them are real & the causes are complex, but their solutions never lay in a binary in/out referendum. The leaders of the leave campaign never wanted to solve their problems, they just wanted to capitalise on their suffering.
