DPS schools and district offices will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, March 14, due to the remnants of the severe storm, power outages across the city and poor road conditions. This means that all district activities and programs are cancelled.
Construction on the DPS Food and Nutrition Services greenhouse in southwest Denver has started! With completion expected this April, the greenhouse will grow thousands of pounds of produce for school cafeterias and eventually host urban agriculture programs for students.
The district will offer free meals to students at 8 locations throughout the city, using a grab-and-go style system:

In collaboration with other Denver-metro area school districts, all Denver Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday, April 17 due to the ongoing safety concern. All facilities and programs are closed for the day. There will be no afternoon activities or athletic competitions.
We unveiled DPS' first electric school bus today! Nicknamed “Elvis,” it will service routes for several schools in the Far Northeast. Not only will it reduce diesel exhaust emissions, but it is projected to save over $60,000 in fuel and maintenance costs over the next 15 years.
DPS is proud to offer free feminine hygiene products in all high school, middle school and K-8 bathrooms. Pads and tampons will be available to students in girl’s/women’s and gender neutral bathrooms.

Tonight, we met w/ the DCTA leadership to continue negotiating. It was a productive conversation. DPS shared a proposal, DCTA gave us feedback and we committed to return tomorrow to continue working. This is how we will avert a strike--by staying at the table to get an agreement.
DPS leadership has made the decision to remain with remote learning for the rest of the 2019-20 school year.

At 10:17 a.m., schools across the country - including some in DPS - are observing a moment of silence to respect and remember the victims of last year's shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
Due to heightened safety concerns, many DPS schools were placed on a lockout this afternoon. DPS Safety and Security and Denver Police increased presence near our schools to make sure students were safe as they left school. Afterschool activities will take place indoors.
