@sjdementia
model of care demands it. He had a good death bcoz that is the last demonstration of love /2
Hi tweeps. Im considering starting a Special Interest Group (SIG) for people with an interest in QI and frailty. But wondering if theres an appetite. Anyone?
@theQCommunity
We lost my uncle-godfather to COVID today. 8 weeks ago we celebrated my mother’s life. The comfort it brought was indescribable The loneliness of death during COVID cannot be underestimated. The fall out of this type of grief will impact so many. Stayathome PLEASE
And here it is .

Serious question tweeps. Why are staff in shops, deli’s,restaurants etc wearing visors? Someone must have given it the ok? What am I missing? Surely visor sans mask is futile?
Starting a new role in morning as Director of Nursing/National Lead Older Persons Services/Clinical &Integrated Programmes tomorrow- so excited! Need to make title succinct for the elevator pitch tho- any ideas twitter pals?
Getting to visit dear old dad for first time in 16 weeks (sine we buried mum). Beyond excited to see him while aware he may not know me after all this time. But he is happy and that is beyond priceless (

On international nurses day I want to share with you some of the faces of those who work in residential care who are supporting our parents to cocoon, to cope and in some cases to die with dignity during the pandemic COVID -19. To each and everyone you are my hero 1/11
‘I may not be able to remember your name, so please remember mine.’ We love how residents of Maidstone Care Centre are getting their point across. A great reminder that people living with dementia don’t want to be patronised from
@RCHhomes
Dear old dad rang me yesterday (well the kind
@stjdementia
did) We have seen him for 2.5 hrs since COVID. He told me he loved me and it was lovely to hear my voice.. rare moment/ i think he actually knew twas me. So grateful for staff who see families as part of residents care
Saddest conversation with 90 yr old neighbour who i meet on my morning walks. He told me of a recent interaction with healthcare services and sighed "us older people are just in the way". My heart broke a little. But my rage took over. Its time to make this a none event! #💜NFEP
To all my colleagues working in residential care minding the mammies and daddies of the nation. Thank you. You’re a critical element in our fight against COVID . We are so grateful for your skill compassion and kindness

Looking forward to discussing the science and art of gerontological nursing in the COVID-19 pandemic and to sharing the stage with some amazing gerontological nurse leaders
Older people are everyone's business. It behoves all those working in healthcare (with exception of midwifery/children's to complete the National Frailty Education Programme to understand the fundamentals of frailty (that includes managers, porters, doctors, volunteers) 👇

Today is International kindness day. Kindness is my favourite of all human expressions. You never know what someone is going thru so always be kind. Its something you will never regret being or doing. Im so v grateful to the many people who have been kind to me this week
"Its too easy to dismiss falls and frailty as symptoms of ageing,” “If you are a health professional and have patients with cancer, heart disease, stroke or any clinical condition, you wouldn't dream of giving them half a dose or less treatment.
Tomorrow is world alzheimer's day. For those of you who love someone living with dementia we share an unspoken bond. The long goodbye. Thank you
@sjdementia
for loving my dad like we love him ♥️

This woman suffers from Alzheimer's and her daughter is feeding her. For a moment she looks at her daughter, remembers her and tells her that she loves her.
Very emotive
I cannot for the life of me understand the logic of men in uniform- the army- attending nursing home to swab our parents when there are qualified nurses in every nursing home-

Dementia really is the long goodbye. A little bit more of loss evertday. COVID has robbed so many of us of time with our PLWD. Plz stick to the plan so we can open up sooner

Update.. dear old dad instigated a conversation last night. 1st time in months. Today i called and he was too busy to see me 😍- when i arrived he was at his exercise class then he had mass, then it was lunch and then he was off to the pub (alcohol free of course)
#happydaughter
One of the things wearing me down during COVID is awful ageist media narrative. They both dismiss and cause fear mongering amongst our older population. They portray experts in gerontology as less expert We need to change this narrative. What can we do tho?

On International older persons day can I make a personal plea. I cant see dear old dad as his n home is in a level 3 area. Please reduce your social contacts, wear a mask/wash your hands so that I and others like me can see our dear old dads/mums/husbands/wives soon
