I'm delighted to announce Doki Doki Literature Club Plus, a labor of love from
@TeamSalvato
and
@SerenityForge
.
#DDLCPlus
includes new features and content and releases June 30th on PC, Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox.
Info in thread!
I was trying out Counter-Strike 2, made an absolutely horrible play and someone called a vote to kick me from the match, saying "How do you have a 10-year veteran coin???" I have that coin because I played CS 1.5/1.6 when I was 12 years old. Now that I'm an adult, I play Splatoon
A small fun detail in the DDLC Plus Side Stories: Monika wrote a song inspired by the club and titled it "My Song, Your Note". The title shares initials with the four club members in the order that they joined: Monika, Sayori, Yuri, Natsuki. (But she was too shy to tell them!)
I want to highlight the
#DDLCPlus
box art because it's absolutely STUNNING. It was made by
@lu_cid_sky
in collaboration with
@_satchely
. An incredible work of art that I will display on my shelf forever. BTW it's rated M for Monika.
I can't believe Ethan is trying to brush off this outrage as "K-pop fans who can't take a joke". Using "t*wink" and "g*ay" as an insult is absolutely deplorable. MILLIONS see you as a role model. Are you going to teach them respect? Or to instigate toxicity and put down others?
@TeamSalvato
@SerenityForge
The new content is called the Side Stories, which are stories of friendship and literature, set outside the timeline of the original game. There are six Side Stories, one for each pair of characters, to show how they became close friends.
Doki Doki Literature Club won
@IGN
People’s Choice (most votes) for every category it was nominated for: Best PC Game, Best Adventure Game, Best Story, and Most Innovative. Thank you and what an insane fan base!
This will be the year I reclaim my happiness so I can deliver it to others! My goal is to fully return to doing things I enjoy, such as making games. First releasing new DDLC content (not a sequel), then blowing the dust off my next original VN which has been on hold for 2 years.
"Monika's Writing Tip of the Day" was conceptualized because after writing Your Reality, I wanted to add more context to the line: "The ink flows down into a dark puddle". One idea led to the next, and this recurring scenario ended up being weirdly memorable in its own way.
This Friday at 6pm PST, I plan to stream some of the DDLC Plus Side Stories as a chance to connect with the community, and to express gratitude for your support in bringing us to the unfathomable milestone of reaching 1 million players.
Thank you,
@NintendoAmerica
- you taught me long ago that video games are magical. I'm a lifelong fan, a competitive Smash player, and a speedrunner of your games. So it's a dream to have your support. Let's terrify our mutual fans together.
Get to know your new Literature Club members as you write your way through this love story. Just remember not to judge a book by its cover…
The terrifying Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! comes to
#NintendoSwitch
on June 30.
Pre-order today:
New DDLC sequel idea - Monika finally escapes from her reality, only to soon learn that her escape was through no means of her own, but she was in fact summoned for Mortal Kombat
#DDLCPlus
pricing info: $15 for digital download, $30 for the special physical edition which is packed with delightful Literature Club goodies.
Physical is available for Switch and PlayStation, and pre-orders are already up at
My
@YouTube
channel for Team Salvato is getting denied monetization because they think that the soundtrack I composed for my own game is "someone else's content". This has been going on for months and is not only losing us money, but also preventing us from protecting copyright.
Monika's Twitter account (
@lilmonix3
) was suspended this morning because someone decided to file fraudulent DMCA claims against our own artwork. We'll take the appropriate measures with Twitter to restore the content and the account.
Here's a Bad Apple level I created in I Wanna Maker, a Mario Maker-esque platformer game on Steam. It took ~60 hours of work (mostly done last year).
The level has about 1,200 objects and 10,000 triggers/events. The music is made by pitching sound effects.
Level ID: W26H-XKKE
The club visits an escape room. Monika tries to lead but nobody listens to her. Natsuki ransacks the entire room. Sayori spends 10 minutes on a random gadget that does nothing. Yuri solves half the room herself and suddenly everyone is diligently obeying her. Monika gets insecure
General information concerning my next game projects:
My next VN is a long time away. Currently rewriting the script. There won't be any info this year.
Additional DDLC content (not a sequel) will appear in some way. More info likely later this year. No specifics to share yet.
Thank you to everyone who has been sharing their experiences with the
#DDLCPlus
Side Stories. I feel lots of personal gratitude in being able to share the emotions with all of you, and I hope we all feel closer to each other in the same way that the club members do after joining.
In the character key art for DDLC Plus (drawn by
@_Satchely
), the characters look a little bit older and more mature. I chose that because it feels as though, in our imaginations, the club members have grown and matured past the one-dimensional tropes that drove the original art.
Something special today - here is one of the new tracks for the
#DDLCPlus
Side Stories, titled Lavender Mist. This and the other tracks were composed by
@variendarkgirl
with my close involvement! There are some familiar catchy melodies (like this one), and brand-new ones as well.
Fighting games featuring Mario:
- Super Smash Bros.
- Super Smash Bros. Melee
- Super Smash Bros. Brawl
- Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS
- Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
- Melty Blood: Type Lumina
My new goal at conventions is to unsuspectingly ask DDLC cosplayers to take a picture with me without them realizing who I am, and then let them randomly find the picture on Twitter later.
Game developer Masahiro Sakurai had a visual novel segment in his latest video. Games highlighted in the Japanese version:
-Otogirisou
-Doki Doki Literature Club
-Machi: Unmei no Kousaten
-Ace Attorney
The DDLC Plus box art was a big group collab but drawn primarily by
@Lu_cid_sky
. I wanted Monika to fill the frame and hold the logo. Lucid submitted this sketch as a joke, but it's just what I wanted! It turned into a masterpiece. IMO, it's always worth sharing dumb/joke ideas.

Our game franchise, Doki Doki Literature Club, is under a coordinated attack from non-US users issuing fraudulent DMCA claims to forcibly suspend artists' Twitter accounts. Who is best for me to reach out to in order to resolve this as quickly as possible?
In college, my friend and I invited our whole Japanese language class to a tea party at our apartment to study for the midterm. Only one person showed up...our teacher. And he brought snacks. What a great man. I hope you're doing well, Harasaki-sensei
DDLC has somehow managed to create this meta-dialog where people are complaining about a weeb game getting popular without even realizing it got popular in part because it makes fun of weeb games.
A non-exhaustive list of things that, through my extensive research of Japanese media, I've learned are actually cute anime girls:
-Guns
-Tanks
-Deadly sins
-Countries
-Lovecraftian horrors
-Game consoles
-Battleships
-Satan
-Blood cells
-Charcoal
-The Black Plague
I’ve heard concerns that I no longer care about making games and am only into Smash/streaming/etc. I would like to reassure you. This is how I was before, and during, the development of DDLC. Feeling like myself again is a positive step forward in my game development career.
I failed college, was called lazy by lots of mentors, couldn't handle responsibility and struggled to take care of myself. Now at 28 I think I found an ADHD treatment plan that works for me. I feel functional for maybe the first time. Thank you so much
@HowtoADHD
for inspiring me

@gaiaonline
I discovered recently that you stole my character design and sold it for money. I don't understand why you felt the need to do this. DDLC is a free game, even.
I think Tears of the Kingdom is gonna be incredible, but I think it's a tragedy that it has to run on what is effectively a mobile chipset from 2015. Open-world Zelda really deserves less dated hardware to more fully realize its magic.
Your drive isn't acting up, Nendoroid Monika from Doki Doki Literature Club is here debuting in the Nendoroid lineup. Stay tuned to our socials for more info soon!
If you missed our Mini WonHobby panel be sure to watch the VOD until 7/16 through AX Lite!

Mario is the ultimate mascot of gaming. A silent protagonist who can have anything put in front of him, and he turns it into a fun-filled adventure through his acrobatics and shouts of joy. He has no complexity at all. But he's so beloved, because his games are made just for him.
This will be the year I reclaim my happiness so I can deliver it to others! My goal is to fully return to doing things I enjoy, such as making games. First releasing new DDLC content (not a sequel), then blowing the dust off my next original VN which has been on hold for 2 years.
Oh, and this is a good time to drop a reminder that Breath of the Wild was a Wii U game. BotW runs on a console released nearly 10 years ago. While that itself is absolute sorcery, it also puts this into perspective.
Mario Sunshine deserves a true ending where the citizens of Delfino, knowing Mario is good, band together to overthrow the corrupt police force who were clearly bought out by Bowser. FLUDD fuses with the shine sprites to hyper beam Bowser off the island. Then Mario and FLUDD kiss
I finally got an update from
@TwitterSupport
that Monika's account (
@lilmonix3
) will be restored after 10 more business days. I'm upset that it's so easy for a single troll to suspend an account with over 350,000 followers and I hope there's a way to prevent this in the future.
This is really unfortunate. I would argue that it's easier to make legal backups of GameCube and Wii games than nearly any other console. It's historically wrong to take legal action against emulation. And during the height of the pandemic, this won't make Nintendo any friends.
Fun fact, I originally wanted to release DDLC on April 1st to add an extra layer of bewilderment to the whole thing (a lot of people thought I was working on a fighting game at the time). But naturally it wasn't ready at that point. Would have been extra hilarious though.
