As someone who has served on your Trust and Safety Board since its inception and counseled you since 2009, time is now to suspend President Trump’s account. He has deliberately incited violence, causing mayhem with his lies and threats.
“Journalism in India is on a ventilator,” argues
@RanaAyyub
. “Why is Modi not being asked the tough questions on the front page of our newspapers?”

Extraordinary reception for extraordinary journalist and human: this evening in Boston
@RanaAyyub
talked to a room of 500 plus people and she moved them to tears. The support and love was palpable. We admire you Rana and stand with you.
Urgent read from
@RanaAyyub
—human rights abuses flagrant and permitted in India. This cannot and should not stand. Thank you dear Rana for your brilliant and brave reporting, which exacts deep personal costs.
BJP lawmakers asking for the economic boycott of Muslims, cops seen flogging Muslim men in public, those who gang raped Bilkis Bano are set free on the recommendation of the Indian government. Can the world look away. My latest for the Washington Post
India gets one step closer to passing the controversial
#CitizenshipAmendmentBill2019
which offers refuge to religious minorities… except Muslims.
@RanaAyyub
says
@narendramodi
'has become a leader of anti-Muslim bigots across the country.'
Watch here:
Hey
@elonmusk
, one of your Trust and Safety Council members. I think a great many people here would pay for the service, verified or not, if you ensured that they could actually express themselves free from threats, intimate privacy violations, cyber mob attacks, stalking, and /1
Washington Post writer Rana Ayyub awarded with McGill Medal for journalistic courage - Grady College—I could not be prouder of
@RanaAyyub
who inspires us all.
The battle against disinformation is arduous. For brave journalists like
@RanaAyyub
, doing one’s life work is fraught with danger—reputation damaging lies and deep fake sex videos as Rana endured. The goal is to silence and discredit path breaking journalism. This cannot stand.
This fake photo-shopped tweet that shows me advocating child rapists in the name of Islam is being circulated yet again all over social media. From the likes of Ashok Pandit to the entire right wing eco system is sharing this tweet. How sick are you guys !
(1) Long threat alert: yesterday, I laid low about the EO on “online censorship” because I didn’t want to be lured into, and be trolled by, absurd distortion of Section 230 and ultra vires nonsense. I have written about and worked on 230 reform for too long and too hard.
@mjschwartzman
My orthodox and conservative cousins—let alone my life long reform rabbis and cantors—would be wildly offended by the assertion that Jewish people don’t have core set of beliefs. I’m stunned. This is beyond nuts and trivializes the Old Testament, Talmud, Torah.

Horror stories emerging from rural India especially from Uttar Pradesh where the Gram panchayat elections has led to the super spreader wave in the state. Thousands drove from cities to vote for their 'Pradhan' for the village and infecting an entire population. This is CRIMINAL
There is a bounty on everyone’s intimate privacy; post Dobbs especially so for girls and women. As I argue here in Slate and my upcoming book, we need a legislatively guaranteed civil right to intimate privacy.

Question—my feed has changed radically. I have been hearing from interesting new folks for sure but my constants are gone including ones who are still here and still tweeting. I checked. Same for you?
That feeling when you send your manuscript to your editors!! Come a long way thanks to beloved friends. Now to editing! Hopefully titled something like Intimate Privacy: A Civil Right, Exploited: Inside the Fight for Intimate Privacy. Now to write a law review essay!
I’m so excited and honored to say that
@wwnorton
will be publishing my book about intimate privacy’s promise, our failure to protect it, and a path for global reform.

This is insane. Cyber harassment is routinely dismissed as boys being boys or “it will stop if you ignore it.” Ask women and marginalized people who have suffered and been ignored by LE. But in cases clearly not involving harassment or doxxing LE is all over it. Unbelievable.
This seems...insane.
A masked on-duty officer covered his badge while acting chummy with anti-BLM protesters.
Someone posted his picture on twitter to find out who he is.
Prosecutors are now charging the tweeter, and 5 RTers, with an 18 month felony.🧵

Hello
@TwitterIndia
, at what point will you consider blocking fake tweets from verified handles that are silencing and intimidating journalists. Or have you decided to play mute spectator to the assault and harassment of voices critical of the govt

Cyber mobs targeting women and people from marginalized communities to silence, terrorize, and deny them of life’s key opportunities including work is nothing new. I’ve been writing about destructive online mobs since 2007. Then my call for “cyber civil rights” was often /1

(5) Done with the backstory: I’m trying to make sense of this EO, which is clearly a play to distract us, chill platforms (go
@jack
for refusing to be chilled), coerce obedience (see Mark Zuckerberg’s embarassing statements), and grab power EO lacks.
In which
@ma_franks

@CCRInitiative
President MAF truly wows.
In a hearing in the Senate Committee on Homeland Security & Gov Affairs today,
@ma_franks
had a sharp response to Sen. Ron Johnson, who pushed the idea that social media moderation favors the left. She noted the asymmetry of the problem on the right as it relates to extremism.
Must read “Blood and Soil in India” in the The New Yorker —so much more to say but this captures

Found this, and it made me appreciate my folks: this is a letter to my future in laws, way, way before my parents knew that Lou and I would get married. When you see good in people, when they touch your lives, tell them, tell their families. Celebrate their kindness.

If you know me, you know I don’t use this platform to undermine others. Period. I applaud ideas and colleagues who enlighten and enrich us. I’m over people who claim the mantle of teaching others but are really just hacks attacking others.

From the White House to the senate, great to see
@RanaAyyub
making an impact and speaking up for the less privileged journalists in her country. In an ideal world her enduring commitment to press freedom and democracy would be lauded.
Freedom of the press is under attack around the world. Rana Ayyub and other brave journalists who risk their lives to report on abuses of power and other matters of public interest need our protection and support.
